Strong bass is achieved with right earbuds

I own a $1500 custom monitors from Ultimate Ears. Please read my review of Apple In-Ear Headphones in this perspective.

You cannot possibly purchase better-sounding headphones at this price, period. Many reviews here have complained about a perceived lack of bass. These headphones come with middle-size earbuds installed. Upon purchase, I immediately tried these headphones on a treadmill and strong disappointed with lack of bass and insufficient noise isolation. At that time, the middle-size earbuds felt right to my ears.

The next day, I decided to give the large-size earbuds. In a quiet listening, I listened to the same tunes that I had listened to on the treadmill. I could not believe a dramatic improvement in smooth and strong bass tones and overall tonal clarity, blessed with superb noise isolation.

As some reviewers here have also pointed out, it is absolutely imperative to experiment with the three different sizes of earbuds that come with these Apple headphones. One tip is that, if you are comfortable with it, you may want to moisten the earbuds with your lips. This practice would increase noise isolation further.

True, as good as these Apple headphones sound, they are no match for custom monitors with ear molds made only for your ear canals. But, it is absolutely true that you would never find a better price-performance with headphones for iDevices than these Apple headphones.

Give them a try and be patient with earbuds. You'd be rewarded with the feeling that you had never spent $79 on anything better than these headphones.

    Great headphones

I have to agree with prior reviewers, you really need to make sure you've got the right size ear buds attached. I tried on all three (SM,MD & LG), and after finding the right fit (MD for me), these things stay in your ear. They're comfortable and the sound is really great.

I've ended my quest for the perfect in-ear headphones!

    Terrible

These might be the cheapest sounding headphones I have ever owned. I don't know where people got the idea that they sound good, there are a lot better options out there for this price.

    Would not recommend.

    Cheap

They sound great but that's about it. For the most part Apple makes great long lasting products but these are cheap. I'm on my second pair of these because the remote on the first set broke, the buttons no longer worked. So I thought I'd try another pair, and about a year later, the remote broke again. Same problem as before. The buttons just stop responding. Very upsetting to pay $80 on something that doesn't last. I'll never buy another set of these from Apple ever.

    Best

I listen to high quality music and hours upon hours a day - everyday- and these are the most comfortable, best sounding I have ever worn in my life. I've owned Sony's, Bose's, Stein's, and Panasonic's, etc. I throw out the original headphones that come with the Iphone's in the box because their ya know :) Comfort is the most important, and then sound quality, sound immersion/isolation, and these deliver. Amazing... Just believe me and get them.

    Love 'em

I lost my old pair traveling so I went into the Apple store and decided to give these a try. I love them...super comfortable and sounds great. The bass could use some love but for the most part they're great.

Bad Design. Ear bud stuck deep in ear

Do not buy these. Ear bud popped off and got stuck DEEP inside my ear. Required instrument to remove and was painful.
Should not receive even 1 star.

    very unhappy

The plug broke off in my iPad and could not be removed. Because it was deemed to be physical damage to the iPad (less than a year old), the warranty did not cover damage to the iPad.

Earphones no longer useable, and iPad destroyed, no thanks to Apple.

    Replacement Sleeves/Tips

These headphones rival the best out of the box. However, if your looking for replacement sleeves/tips, Sure EA306 Triple Flange Sleeves will only make them better. They can be purchased for less than $10 and you get three sets. For those with complaints, I encourage you to give these a whirl. I did make a slight modification to fit my ears by cutting off the smallest flange, thereby leaving two flanges.

    I was surprised

I got these as a Christmas gift 2009, well they're still going strong. The mic doesn't work but I don't even use it anyways. These ear buds have been through A LOT, I've probably washed them in the washer like 5 times and have been through the dryer twice. Still sound as good as they day I unwrapped them, and the inline volume and music controls still work. But with their age they are beginning to fall apart a little, but for the 80$ we paid, I'd say they were well spent.

$30 earbuds are better, big disappointment!!

    Pros
    - they look cool
    Cons
    - $15 earbuds soundquality, not better
    - when walk the cable constantly rattles in your ears
    - doesn't play equal, highs and bass changes dramaticall when a little moving speaker in ear
    - rubber pieces lose
    - remote has shar ends which often take hold on clothes
As a big fan of Apple products i'm affraid this is big disappointment. i bought new $30 and it works much better for strolling the streets and enjoying the music.

    Great Fit

I've had these headphones for over a year now and they still work great even after going through the wash. They fit in my ears better than the iPhone 4 or iPhone 5 standard headphones, and stay put very well while I'm running

Very good detail, separation, bass clean but a bit lacking

These are the most detailed in ears I have ever purchased.

Treble: Very detailed, forward, airy sounding. Verges on harshness, but just barely passes for silkiness. Makes voices sound very emotional.

Midrange: Not overly pronounced, but very well separated. Does not sound muddy at all and very comfortable to listen to. MUCH cleaner than that of the EarPods.

Bass: Quite recessed, but extends much more deeply than say, the EarPods. Won't satisfy a basshead, but it's there. The bass is very tight, not boomy, which will disappoint some and sounds awful on public transportation. Lack of bass does make music sound slightly like it lacks soul.

Soundstage: Being IEMs, soundstage is poor and narrow. Earpods have better soundstage.

Comfort: These are fairly comfortable, although the included tips may not grip very well. Sony Hybrid tips fit well. The dual balanced armature design is very small, meaning the actual hard plastic part will not get in the way.

Noise Isolation: Not the best, but it's there. Cable does transmit significant amounts of noise.

Overall: Very impressed. If you're looking for detail, clarity, and separation at an affordable price, look no further. If you're looking for bone-rattling bass, look elsewhere. The EarPods do have better soundstage and mid-bass, but are lacking in clarity, midrange, treble, isolation, and sub-bass.

    Good sound NOT user friendly

I lost the rubber pieces VERY easily just from pull the headphone out of my ear. Lost all spares with in the year. Had to resort to superglueing them on.., even then the rubber part still came off. Switched to 35$ apple ones.., same good sound quality with no trouble associated. Very disappointed I spent 90$+ on the "better" pair.

    PUT IT OUT OF SALE!!!!!!

This product is really really bad comparing to new apple ear pods, I think this is not fair selling them for higher price then the new ear pods and cheating buyers with higher expectations, not letting buyers to listen and compare before !!!! Put them out of sale!!!! Ugh!

Good Earphone, But need some improvement.

This earphone has a good sound, stylish, comfortable. But I think Apple should improve bass, build quality, and, more durable.

    Buyer beware!!

I bought 4 pairs of these headphones in November, and now in March, none of them work; barely any sound is audible through the headphones. For $29 + tax, I would never buy Apple headphones again!

    Good Sound; Fall Apart

I really liked the fit and sound of the ear phones. However, the tips come off easily, making it problematic to keep things together. I bought a replacement set once I lost all the ear buds on the first set, but the same thing happened again, so I've given up.
