    Had high hopes

Bought these headphones with high hopes but was slightly let down. The headphones have a good build and never slipped out of my ear unlike some other reviews I have read. The sound quality is pretty poor however, especially if you listen to bass heavy genres of music. The headphone lack any real bass to make listening to that type of music enjoyable.

I like them! Comfortable Full Sound!

From a near 50-year old user with wide musical tastes, for what it's worth:
After listening to these connected to a 5S, I am pleased with them! I am running Apple Lossless media from both the Store and from my own old media collection. Summary: these do what is advertised-they accurately (key word) reproduce musical tones inside a really tiny space (an ear drum)

No "Loudness" or "Bass Boost" mode, which so many devices run as "normal" so if you are used to that, they may be disappointing.
They won't thump your skull with bass, but I find they pulse my eyeballs with good clean bass guitar and true drum riffs from many songs.

Fit is very important with these, and other, silicone-bud designs, to get the full range from them. If you can't hear yourself breathing, they aren't sealed to your ear. With nothing playing, they should feel like a set of earplugs. I bought these in hopes of better long-wear comfort than the EarPods. I love the sound of the EarPods, but the hard design bothers my ears after an hour. These have been comfortable for me for three hours now, with equivalent or better sound.

My test music is below, which are favorites which seemed to really pop better with the In-Ear Headphones than the EarPods. Try them yourself. My review might appeal to those near or over 50, or those who appreciate that recording philosophies have changed over the years. In particular I thought these performed really well with acoustic guitar style recordings.

    Best Earphones

I would like to recommend these earbuds, because they are still going strong. Even after rigorous usage the past two years, which has never occurred to me. The Apple In-Ear Headphones are not for your typical EDM-lovers. Since the earphones uses two drivers: one for bass and one for treble. With this mechanism the earphones achieves the maximal performance. Thus the sound is being protruded separately and is not getting distorted. The bass is not too heavy and the mids/highs are extremely clear. If you like natural sounding earphones, then these earphones are perfect for you. Considering the fact that normal IEMs with armatures costs > €150, these earphones have a fairly reasonable price. I bought them for €24,95 on sale.

Pasy more than $40 for these & you'll be mad. Did the research, read below:

+6/10 - SOUND QUALITY (Only slightly better than standard apple headphones)
+10/10 - LOOKS: (Looks like standard apple headphones, only nicer)
+8/10 - PACKAGING: (looks good but the ear bud holder not holding the earbuds knocked off 2 points)
+2/10 - PRICE: (if standard apple headphones cost $30 - at most - these should be priced at $40 tops. Samsung earbuds w/ same concept/specs/design sell for no more than $5)

No wonder the item is being discontinued. I bought my mine at an apple store for $99, The sound quality over the complimentary iPhone headphones are better, however, not $99 worth better. Not surprised they're being discontinued. I lost the silicon buds (L, M, S, sized) that came in a convenient carrying capsule, unfortunately the capsule doesn't click-to-shut -or as my friend commented "doesn't stay shut). You just have to hope the earbud carrying capsule stays idle while in your purse or the bugs will fall, rendering your expensive new headphones useless. I would recommend buying a little baggy to keep silicon ear buds in bc apple offers no options for replacements (go to amazon for replacement though).

My first negative review, I hate doing it but what a waste of money.

More trouble than they are worth.

Simply put, the silicone ear fittings do not stay on the earbud posts. You will get about 6 weeks of good use out of these and then you will battle the ear pieces to keep the silicone pieces on and the buds in your ears. For something that costs this much, they should be usable for more than 6 weeks.

Apple should be ashamed ( and I am a self confessed Apple fan boy)

Brought a pair an hour ago at the Hornsby Westfield Apple Store.

Always been quite happily with ear buds but thought surely for $129 they must be a step up.

But honestly I can't believe how bad they sound.

THE worst sounding earphones I've ever owned. Tinny no bass just truly horrible.

I did a direct comparison with my ear buds and they sound a whole lot better.

I tried changing the silicone cushion but that made no difference.

I really expected more from Apple - I am going to take them back right now- means another trip to Westfield but I feel ripped off.

If anyone from Apple would care to respond I'm all ears

Tinny sound and an overall disappointment

Wow - I have to say that I am deeply disappointed with the quality of the sound from these headphones. I really expected something better given that I find the standard headphones to be ok. Tinny, lacking bass and clarity and in fact, just lacking on every critical dimension. And for 3x the price for the standard headphones (welcome to prices in Europe!) I wanted something superior. Instead, I got something inferior.

    Worse than the cheaper ones

I definitely like the regular EarPods (which are half the price) a lot better. The sound is better and they're more comfortable. These ones are just not worth the money and I'm sorry I bought them. I don't even use them, I bought another pair of the cheaper ones instead. For ones like this, I'd go spend $10 any place.

Nice is prober fit; but, loud cable noise when so fit

I'm putting this right in the middle of the two extreme reviews.

    1) These are great-sounding earbuds (I know, Apple calls them headphones!) when properly seated in the ear canal. So, push them in deep, or change the ear tips for a proper fit, and you will get nice base and crisp sound. But!…

    2) When properly seated, the cables transfer all their noise right to the earbud! Everything. All rubbing against your clothes will go straight to your ears! If you are sitting still, this is not a problem; but, if you are walking, watch out! This could probably be ameliorated if they had a clothes clip, like the Bose Quiet Comfort earbuds do; but, these do not. So, beware!

    Very poor quality

Wish I had read the reviews before buying these. The sound quality is awful, when talking on the phone there's a feedback /echo thing that happens that is very disconcerting. Worst of all is the loud snap that comes out of the right earbud every 15-20 seconds.

    Don't recommend them

I have been a fan of any apple products but this one really disappointed me. I've had 2 pairs so far because the audio would do its own thing. The left side would go out and I wouldn't know what to do and then magically it started to work again. I will say that they feel amazing and the sound is great (sometimes) but if you put the ear bud in your ear to far the audio will sound a little weird so you have to be gentle with putting them in. Can't just pop them in and go. Sad that this was my first time buying a bad apple product :(

    Don't fit anyone

The sound lacks, they don't fit anyone, they aren't durable at all (right monitor stopped working), the EarPods sound 10x better, and they are extremely overpriced.

These don't work well for me

I bought the ME186ZM/B In-ear headphones a year and a half ago, and it has been pretty much endless trying to keep in place the silicon mouldings that fit into and over the earbud seat - they pull off in your ear, when loose they swing around and bump off as they hit your clothing, they fall off in your pocket they are just really inconvenient. I do like the sound, but this is the poorest execution of Apple design I have possessed - and I have owned a lot of Apple product over the years! And plus you can't buy a set of 3x mouldings you need from the Apple store. And I need almost that many a year additional.

    Great Headphones!

A million thanks to all the reviewers who stressed the importance of the right-sized ear tips. I found the sound "tinny" with the medium sized tips. With the large tips in place, the sound is impressive. Very comfortable as well. So glad I made this purchase!

    Great...with different tips

I almost threw these away because they would not stay in my ears when working out, regardless of which size of the provided tips I used. Luckily, I found that others were having the same problem and heard about the Whoomp! foam tips from Comply. They're made specifically for these headphones. Problem solved! If you don't know what size you need, they offer a mix pack with S, M & L. After that you can order a 3-pack of your size only. Seriously, they made all the difference in the world.

    An awful dissapointment

These are not only the worst headphones I've ever purchased, but the worst purchase I've ever done. I'm usually very careful on choosing anything I'm buying, but the fact the EarPods were doing really good to my ears didn't make me think too much about getting the in-ears. Mind-blowing mistake. Why did I pick these instead of the budget Beats, it's haunting me. Worst of all? I bought from a retailer who will not accept any returns on Apple products. A serious retailer. So had I run with the same luck buying the Beats, at least I could take them back to the store.

Everything is awful on these. Flat, no bass terrible cheap sound quality. The tips won't stay in place. Do not buy at all. I won't trust Apple anymore.

Amazing sound with Comply foam tips!

If you get the foam tips made specifically for these earbuds by 'Comply' you will get great sound, clear bass response, noise isolation, and they will stay in your ears. I've been using the combo for years and wouldn't even think of trying any other earbuds. I'm THAT satisfied.

    A big upset from Apple!!!

I had recently bought the ear phones. The sound quality is not good and has shreikiness while playing music. Other issue was the phones kept coming out of ears , essentially does not fit properly.

The ear phones which are shipped with respective phones are much better than this.

I would suggest people to check in Apple Store , if available for testing before buying.

Not worth money it's being charged.
