    Upgraded from 1st Generation

I have not tried the 802.11ac only n and g, but this new AirPort Extreme out performs by old first gen in every aspect: better signal strength for all devices in the house, improved performance. I am sure the dual band is much to credit. I like the smaller foot print (height was not an issue where I have it located). I have FIOS and stream movies from vudu, amazon, netflix; very happy so far.

Holding back one star because of $50 price increase and no usb 3.0. Also, agree with others that complained about packaging; I caught it falling from the box when I opened it.

    Perfect!

I had my old airport since 2007. This year I noticed that our mobile devices and the speed at which my streaming movies would load had slowed down. The first day I saw that a new airport was available, I ordered it. I hooked it up in 5 minutes and the connectivity throughout our house has been perfect. I love the speed on this new airport extreme. I would hands down recommend that you pick this up and install it into your business or work network.

    lightening fast

Awesome router. Seemlessly easy to set up. Did set up with Iphone. Dont understand review from person who said they couldn't connect to old airport express. After firmware update, connected to old airport express without problems. Apple does it again.

    Good-Bye Dead Zones

After three days with this router I've yet to get an AirPlay dropout on any of my four AirPort Express-connected speakers or while watching my AppleTVs. This is in a 4400 square-foot house that has had several WiFi dead zones. I've struggled with many products to get reliable WiFi throughout, and admittedly I stress the network pretty hard by streaming content and then routing it to other devices. For instance, I'll stream TWiT on my AppleTV and route the audio from the AppleTV to the AirPort Express-connected ceiling speakers. No dropouts, no dead zones. Love this thing!

    Wow!

I just bought two of the new AirPort Extreme AC routers. One is my primary and the other extends my network to the other end of our house. The two routers communicate with each other wirelessly, and that connection speed is consistently greater than 550Mbps. Wow!

These routers replaced two previous generation Airport Extreme routers, and the speed and coverage/range improvements are immediately visible. Nice work, Apple.

A great product with great range!

I replaced the latest gen 2TB Time Capsule and latest gen AirPort Express with two new Airport Extremes and the difference in speed and range are well worth it. We have higher speeds and better range in parts of the house that we didn't have before and the range extends well into our backyard and almost across the street. I am almost certain that our neighbors can easily see our routers now. Apple did a great job with the new Extreme. We are very happy with the results!

    Solid Performance

Replaced a 5th Gen that still worked fine but wanted to add the additional band available with this unit. I run 4 extenders via 4 Airport Express and the transition to the new AirPort Extreme was flawless. I have used all sorts of routers in the past but once I moved to Apple AirPort Extreme life was grand!

I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants great coverage and stability. These devices are built by Broadcom to Apple specs and quality standards.

    Excellent...

I have been running the same "Airport Express" for the last four years. Thought it might be time to upgrade and send my signal out a little further. Hooked up the "Airport Extreme" and what a magnificent difference. Internet loads faster and no dead spots in my home any longer.
Was easy to hook up... if you take your time and not rush things... * NOTE ... take your time and let everything load as it should and hookup will be easy. Would I buy it again? You bet I would!

A bit pricey but works great.

Having used it for 6 months now it hasn't given me any trouble. I use both the wireless and wired side of the router and have been surprised at how much more distance this router gives me. The 5 ghz and 2.4 ghz being able to work at the same time for different devices is a great benefit.

    New AirPort Extreme

I have owned and used a lot of apple products... from 2007 to present and will say my home lives and breaths apple.... so far i have had the router for about a week, and i have had no such issues. My range is a lot better than my current verizon fios router at the same tech specs... i don't have any issues with the air play like i did before... however i will say some things I don't like are that you cannot change channels, and or make a lot of sys changes like a std router...

Solid and reliable but hard to manage

I have several generations of Airport Extreme and at three of each of the last three generations of APE and Time Capsules. They are solid performers, standards conformant, and secure. The early time capsules all failed due to overheating issues, but the current batch are great. The biggest problem I have with them is that unless use Airport Utility for Windows, it is very frustrating to manage them. Apple has severely limited their management app for iOS and OS/X. This is enough for me to switch to DD-WRT based hardware.

The OS/X airport utility up until version 5.6 was very good, but when Apple released the very limited iOS management app, they mirrored the new OS/X utility with the same limited feature set. Just as an example - under Windows you can show the DHCP address assignment table, but under OS/X or iOS you cannot. However with the Windows utility you can use the highly useful Back-to-My-Mac remote access feature for remote management.

So if you just want something to set up and forget, the APE is great, if you want to do anything else and you aren't using Windows, look elsewhere.

    So far so good

Not being computer literate, still on my iphone4, waiting for my new 6, I purchased AppleTV and was talked into the AirPort Extreme which after my son face timing me through the set up of my new tower going through my existing Verizon router, it was a cinche. I am now able to use wifi, on my 60" flat screen in the family room, my 30" f/s in my bedroom, my iPad ,iPhone, AppleTV, Galaxy tablet, my dads of cell phone, and a acre computer plugged into the AirPort Extreme. All using the wifi 24/7, with out any problems. Also had a friend over and he was using my wifi and could not believe how fast it was now compared to my Verizon router. Granted it was a costly $200.00 but Verizon wanted $129. For their upgraded router and an additional $10.00 per month for the upgrade. So I believe it's a win win for myself. I don't have much music on my devices like most but for what I'm using it for, it's perfect for me.

Easy set up & works great

I needed to replace a CISCO router that was several years old. I read many of the reviews on the AirPort Extreme prior to making my purchase. I must say that my experience so far with this base station as been very satisfactory. I am experiencing much improved speed. The set up could not have been simpler. I simply downloaded the AirPort Utility app to my IPAD (would also down load to my IPHONE 5S), plugged in my AirPort Extreme and that is about all I had to do, except name my network, put in a password and tap next. I continue to be impressed with Apple products.

Gives Early '09 iMac New Life

My home router connects through my ISP modem and ran into an initial installation glitch, probably my fault, called the free (for 90 days) support line and was talked through the setup process (including using my old Airport as a 'router extender') by an extremely competent and patient support guru. The new Airport Extreme worked like a charm within 90 minutes of being out of the box. My Early '09 iMac operates noticeably faster and crisper, so much so I think I will defer plans to replace it with a newer model. One minor complaint is the extremely tiny size of the instruction booklet font, virtually unreadable in the absence of microscopic eyes, had to use a magnifying glass, and the same is true of deciphering the serial number etched into the bottom of the device. In terms of living up to its advertised promises, however, I couldn't be happier with current Airport Extreme.

    Works like it should

The installation of this router really was a non-event. Follow the instruction. I attached it to my Cable Modem, hooked it up to my switch, Vonage device, etc and turned it on. Shortly thereafter it was working. Very easy to configure using Airport Utility, add a guest network, etc. Very good range. I broadcast my SSID but have it secured, My only complaint? it costs more than some of its competitors but it is easy to bridge the network and extend the range, Very happy with it

    Rock solid now...

My grandson bought me this and took my older Airport Extreme with him. I had serious issues getting it set up. The first issue was an ISP/user problem and not the fault of the Airport Extreme. The second issue was that it would first give me all greens and then say the ethernet cable was disconnected. This lasted for about 30 minutes, made me seriously crazy and then it just cleared up. It has worked perfectly ever since. A couple reviewers have put bogus information up and I just wanted to correct their errors. First, I have an ATT Microcell connected to this router and to the previous one. The Microcell can be sensitive to its location and general environment but it works perfectly with the Airport Extreme. I also have a 2TB WD MyBook Studio drive connected to my system. It worked fine with the original Airport Extreme and it works fine with this one. I use it for storage and to wirelessly support Time Machine for a MacBook Air and a MacBook Pro 15".

Please don't project your problems onto the Airport Extreme, it works fine with both of these devices
