Second leather case for iPad Air failed!

    • Written by from WOKING

I have had 2 of there cases, (the first one failed completely and iPad fell out), and wish I could say they are wonderful, but they are not... They look good, feel good etc. but after 8/9 months use, they fail... The leather goes slack and iPad starts to fall out...

I look after my kit, (hence me buying a case which encloses the iPad), so it's not simple wear and tear... It's a design fault...

Such a shame... Looks like I'll have to save for another one... Never thought that cases were meant to be consumable!

The tri-fold cover is flawed! If they had added one more fold; or made the folds narrower, it would prop up the ipad air better. regretting the buy.

Poor cheap product . Would not recommend buying it.

    • Written by from Rincon

I bought the IPAD AIR smart case for my IPAD AIR. It does not hold the IPAD in very well. I had mine IPAD to fall out of the case on to my cement garage floor and crack my screen. I gave it one star. Only because it will not let me post my review unless I give it a star rating.

Smart Cover-Probably the worst case you'll ever use

    • Written by from haifa

The good (Which is nothing special for this case only):
    1. With the (Awesome) smart cover, Apple added magnets to the iPad so the cover will be much easier to use .. With all the great(s) in it, and this case has it too, which is great.
    2. The case is beautiful, iphone 5C style

The bad (Which is the very good enough reason not to buy!):
    1. As all other reviews showed you, this case have a hard problem of decomposing (Getting teared down), a real hard one. If you'll ever switch cases (I'm using a keyboard case too, so i switched a few times) you'll see the case is starting to be teared down. The parts will just separate one from each other. In a really bad way
    2. Apple, with justice, tried to make this case available for iPad 2 and next(s). This caused the case to be much more thick then it's needed, at least with my iPad 3.

    Short story long:
This case should be the best, but it's made real bad. So wait for a refresh or something or buy other case. Just not this one ..

    Review by and Industrial Designer

    • Written by from Montreal

When I went for my trade-in, I formerly had an iPad 3 with the neoprene magnetic case, I got myself a nice 128 Gigabyte iPad air and evidently following my good experience with the neoprene case I got into the task of looking for the same quality case I so fondly had for the past two years.

Well, I went with the Apple genius with a subdued enthusiasm to "chose" my case, I was almost resolute to get it, with a restraint satisfaction at the solidity of my purchase and my previous experience, and this is what happened; My first let down came when I arrived to the case section on the Apple Store in St-Catherine Street in Montreal, I was shown either the smart cover or the whole leather case, so naturally I asked as per my previous experience where the neoprene cases were, to my disappointment I was told that there were not, so I wondered I would wait a while and then buy it when they arrived, so I asked when they would arrive and was politely informed that there would be none as on they were not going to be manufactured at all... So I went on, unimpressed, to analyse what they had to offer, on first impression the quality seemed good, not striking but good, that tamed my subdued enthusiasm, to some account the leather seemed strange, not quite leathery but somewhat plastic, probably from the tanning treatment to render it more durable. Second and what started to raise some concerns was that I noticed that the cover of the case had not four, as my previous case, but three divisions and thought that does not look good, I could estimate by analysing the thickness and stiffness of the leather and taking into consideration the magnets that could be embedded into the cover, that by no means the folding could hold folded, the force that you would need to have the kind of elasticity rendered by the leather would be far superior, you would need at least four gauss, and judging by the dimensions and limitations, that was not going to happen... What made the previous case superior was the ability to mix traction from four folds and a not so powerful magnetic force, that worked, I also complained a bit about the vertical stand but faired well, which brings us to... third, the stand, on both positions, a big designer NO NO, as I was already kind of disappointed I asked to try the case before buying, the iPad held well inside the case, but as expected when in stand, it tilted with a frightening ease one over time no matter how carefully I tapped the screen on almost every position only when the app bar was used on the lower quart of the screen could some stability be reached, that upset me, then I flipped the stand to inclined position and started to tap on Google search and as if I was taking notes, something that I frequently do, and as expected collapsed one over time. The answer to this issues on the part of the staff was first, the leather will give, to what I answered well then the problem is going to increase because if now it collapses when still stiff, then after it "gives" it will not hold at all, the same held reason for the vertical stand. So finally the support agent told me that yes, they have had some problems with the stand.

What can I say, this is not the quality that I would have expected from a world class company like Apple, disappointed, finished purchasing the cover case by iStore, neither the best nor the worse but does the job, surprisingly good vertical an inclined stand, sturdy and light, magnetic seal, struggle with closing but the protection is there, at least I have a leather sachet that I use for work. Miss my neoprene apple cover though, big misfire by Apple, not impressed.

    Really Disappointed

    • Written by from Candia

When new, this is the most attractive color available and it's very nice to the touch. Six months later and the edges of the cover have absorbed body oils (I suspect) and looks terrible. No complaints about how it works, etc. On the basis of the stains only, I would not recommend buying this expensive cover.

Has nice patina fits very well

    • Written by from Alexandria

Unfortunately the cover on this doesn't work very well as a stand I do like a nice tight fit in the patina have not tried cleaning it yet because I think it might ruin the cover. For 80 bucks it's a little steep but it adds about the same weight as the iPad Air but it does protected very well.

So frustrated with this case first of all it does not stand at all the magnetic backing does not stay when folded back and it constantly falls when I try to prop it up. I literally threw it away out of frustration. Three-fold system is very bad I can not beleive that came from Apple. Four-fold system on the old cover was great and I do not know why they have change it. Don't waste your money, becauease you will be frustrated too...

Please bring back the more sturdy version!

    • Written by from Fairfield

I'm sorry, but Apple, who is usually amazing in the design department, really botched this one. The case frustrates me every time in use it. It has no stability. Apple's engineering department seems to have forgotten basic principles. I always have to readjust the stand in both positions because it never quite fits my viewing perspective and it's flimsy. I truly hope Apple can rectify the major flaws of the IPad Air Case and Smart Case.

    Not so smart case….

    • Written by from Seattle

Can't believe Apple would want to attach its name to this. First its ability to stand upright is totally lame. The folded triangle thing is not even close to be able to support the iPad in a proper way. Secondly the case is so thick (in some respects good) but I was not able to completely insert a phono plug through the case into the iPad. I would not recommend a purchase of such case. This design needs a total overhaul.

Nice looking but it fell apart

    • Written by from Redondo Beach

I've had the case for less than a year (much less than a year). All the seams have come unglued and the case is now worthless. For the price charged, this should be much more durable. Extremely disappointed.

Way overpriced & won't stand up

    • Written by from Anderson

Seriously Apple, $80 for this piece of junk?! The old smart cover was better as it could actually keep the iPad in an upright position. This is horrible and you should be ashamed. Send me back $40 and I'll change it to a **, but it's definitely a * in its current form.

    Leather stains

    • Written by from Houston

The problem I have had is that the case looks like trash because the leather absorbs the oils from you fingers and palms. This is normal oil that everyone's hands produce. I would suggest that you Scotch Guard spray your new leather iPad smart case or Apple do something to prevent this problem from happening in the first place.

Very poor quality and flimsy stand

    • Written by from KAMLOOPS

This over priced case doesn't even feel like leather and begins to scuff, look old and used within a week even though you have babied it. The stand is useless as it doesn't even do what it's supposed to and falls over all the time. The flap doesn't even close flush with the case. A very poor product not worth the $100.

    Apple showed me better brands

    • Written by from Petaluma

I always buy everything from Apple. Until this case. First $79 was insane. So I reluctantly bought it. After getting home and looking at one terrible design (triangle stand gone - that extra flap gave it stability - now missing.) I returned it the next day very disappointed in both price and design. Price was the real problem. This should have been $29 (or even $19 to reward customers for being loyal). But it wasn't. It's a flat out rip-off. Anyway - I returned home and just felt unsafe without a case (having dropped my ipad 3 - 1 ft and shattering the glass - but that's another bad design problem for later).

So what Apple did was force me to look at other brands. Thank you Apple - as I found there are many accessories made by other companies that were not only better but they cost significantly less. For $25 i got a better designed case. This led to me looking at all the Apple accessories that other brands make and found several items I plan to get in the future over Apple brand.

So who is to blame? Greed in marketing at Apple, the designers for putting out a garbage case (over-priced, magnet for dirt and normal grease on hands, stand is broken (by design)....it's just plain wrong).

If I were apple - i would toss in a case for free. That case did not cost more than a dollar to make. Losing customers loyalty to brand is a bad thing.

    The flawed design

    • Written by from chandigarh

    1. The magnet of this case puts the iPad to sleep even when touched whilst being folded backwards for comfortable holding(biggest flaw).
    2. The access to home and volume buttons is very absurd as it's more of guesswork when you are looking for one.
    3. It's slippery as a case,the feel is not robust .
    4. Lighter shades get dirty easily showing marks.
    5. Some headphone jacks may not work as would be obstructed.

    Functions poorly

    • Written by from Ontario

Stand does not support weight of device, regardless of how it is positioned; just too flimsy. Also does not close in a secure manner. Fails to do the job it was purchased to do (protect iPad from damage). This one should go back to the drawing board.

    Absolute Garbage

    • Written by from san Francisco

I have nothing against apple. But, after recently buying a smart case for my ipad air i can say but one thing. ITS HORRIBLE. It does not work the way its advertised at all. It doesn't stand most of the time and when it does a slight nudge will send it falling. Also it certainly is NOT worth the 80$ price tag. BUYERS BEWARE.

I would not have expected such a poorly designed case from apple(what are you doing johnny?)
