    Does not provide extra height.

    • Written by from San Francisco

I purchased the arm to raise the height of my Cinema display, since I feel that the built-in stand is not tall enough. However this arm maxes out at perhaps 1/4" taller than the original stand, so it's useless for my purpose. It's really disappointing because the build quality is good and it looks quite nice. Just wish it had a few inches more height.

Spring not strong enough to support the monitor

    • Written by from Bristol

I bought two of these Ergotron MX Desk Mount LCD Arms, one for a 27" thunderbolt display and one for a 27" iMac.

Infuriatingly, the springs don't support the weight of the displays.

Good stand for 27" Display, however a little short

    • Written by from OTTAWA

I bought this for use with my 27" Thunderbolt Display, and functionally it works great. The tension needs to be adjust to almost the highest setting, but it does hold steady, and it gives you a wide range of positions you can place the display in. As other reviewers have noted, you will probably need a larger desk to really take advantage of it.

Cons: The one odd thing I noticed about it is that, even fully extended upwards, it is still almost half an in shorter than the stand that comes with the display itself. I had hoped to use it for a standing workstation, but I think it is going to be too short for that.

Does not hold up a 27" display

    • Written by from Litchfield

This is a very solidly-built product, and is also aesthetically pleasing. No complaints there. And it also is fairly straightforward to set up. However, it does not hold up a 27" Cinema Display. The armature holds it up fine, but the spring-tensioned elbow will not stay in position and instead rotates down until the display is at center gravity...or else it's resting on my desk (in the case of portrait mode)! And I did crank the spring tension adjustment as tight as it will go.

    Very sturdy but limited flexibility

    • Written by from Fayetteville

I bought an Ergotron LX for my 22" Cintiq and love everything about it. Bought the MX for my 28" Hanns G monitor (due to weight concerns) and while it holds it in place it has limited flexibility, as the base only swivels 180º not the 360º (like the LX.) As another reviewer stated, this really is best for those with deep desks, but I do enjoy the extra space 4" under the monitor. May not be much but it's great for the stapler, calculator and other misc desk items that always seem to be in your way.

Best Constructed product I've had in a Long time

    • Written by from WESTVILLE

I wanted to flip my iMac on it's side(for vertical viewing). I purchased this item and coupled it with a Company's device called Vesa Wall Mount(an adapter that lets me do this with an iMac). It work perfectly.

This item is so well constructed, it made the project super safe and easy. I now have an iMac 27" sandwiched by 2 vertically positioned smaller iMacs and have had this setup for a year with no problems.

The item almost has no limits.....as it can be bent at so many different angles to accommodate all of your needs. and is so well built I never feel like it's going to ruin the computers. Super kool item.

Will not work on the 21.5" iMac

    • Written by from SULPHUR SPRINGS

My goal was to lower the base about 1 inch or 2 but you can't remove the base. This product was not clear on the specs. when I ordered the part for $169. I will be returning the part.

    Not much space savings

    • Written by from Alpharetta

I bought this for my new 27" iMac because I wanted to be able to utilize the space under the entire computer and have some ability to move the screen. While this arm is built like a tank, as many have stated it really does not seem to be ideal for the 27" iMac. Ultimately, because of the weight of the 27" iMac the arm must be tightened so it is not set up to move the screen around as easily or freely as one would hope. Moreover the clearance from the bottom of the iMac to the desk surface is nominal - I am tall but not unusually tall at about 6' 2" and I still have to tilt the monitor up. Even my 5' 6" wife thinks the monitor is too low. I will keep it for now but may buy something else.

    Solid - desk mount

    • Written by from Ultimo

I have been using the MX for more than 2 years with my 20" Dell monitor. Recently, I have upgraded my Dell to 27 Apple LED cinema display (ACD). The weight of the monitor is about 10 kg without the stand. The MX holds my ACD perfectly with a bit of tightening up the hexascrew on top (pre loading the spring to support the ACD weight). So those who complaint about MX cannot hold the monitor, please read the user manual again.
Solid build (feels heavy and strong)
    Easy to setup
    Lots of accessories
    Reasonable price

Could have done better with cable management (cheap plastic at the base arm, no cable cover at the top arm)
Once the monitor get heavier it needs more force to move the arm around (better if the joints of the arm have ball barring)

Works as claimed with my 24" iMac

    • Written by from SAN ANTONIO

I have been very disappointed with Apple stands for the iMac and display (I own one of each) because they have no vertical adjustment. Very poor for setting up an ergonomic workstation. I use a 24" iMac at my work and I replaced the stand with the Ergotron. For me, getting the LCD closer to the work surface was the issue. Installation of the stand was straight forward. The instructions are quite intuitive and easy to follow. This is a very sturdy, well built stand. Even at an extended reach on my desktop, it supports the weight of the 24" iMac without difficulty. It is the type of product that I like. The specs are correct and it performs in the way the manufacturer claims. The specs state that the lift is 5" and it delivers that for me but, even better, it easily support the iMac just 1/2" off the work surface. A good product.

    Not worth it

    • Written by from West Hollywood

Only holds your computer 2-3 inches off the desk, doesn't gain you any space, in fact costs you space. I think there is a newer model that corrects this.

    Doesn't support the weight

    • Written by from milan

I used this with my 24inch iMac and the arm does not support the weight. The arm does not stay stable and it sinks down all the way so the computer is resting on the desk.

If anyone has any suggestions of what I may have done wrong or how to adjust the strength/support I'd appreciate it.

    Best LCD Arm Mount

    • Written by from Eagan

Ergotron has a history of making outstanding products and this is no exception. Ergotron products are mostly used in government and medical applications because they are so functional and ergonomically beneficial. I can not recommend this product enough. If you are going to spend the money for something like this, go with the company that invented it and is used most often by the medical industry!

Beware: This mount is not for the small-medium sized desks!

    • Written by from Houston

I think this mount's high ratings may be misleading about its usability. It isn't a poorly designed arm, but it is a design that caters to larger-sized desks. I give it three stars because it lacks in universality—some minor design tweaks could probably fix this. The dimension you should pay close attention to is the depth of your table-top. The arm's hinge allows it to be pulled outward or folded inward; the problem is the folding-in part. It's span (when folded/collapsed) is quite large. It is possible to circumvent this problem by swiveling the arm off to one side, and then twisting the screen so that it points back at you; but this is an awkward look and feel, and it puts a lot of stress on the clamping device that mounts the arm to the desk. All in all, this LCD Arm is built well, but it is built for those who can accommodate it.

    Fantastic, built like a tank

    • Written by from Auburn

I shouldn't have been hesitant to buy this at all. This thing is built to last and nothing about it is flimsy or low-quality. It will handles my 26" monitor like a champ. The tension adjustments are well designed and, when adjusted properly, compensate for any monitor weight. Smooth, fluid movement. If I had to cite any cons, I would say the cable management isn't that elegant and you might have to make a trip to the hardware store for some nuts and bolts if your monitor's VESA mount didn't come with them.

    Worked perfectly

    • Written by from Ramona

I used the Ergotron arm along with the VESA Mount Adapter Kit to mount my 27-inch i7 iMac. The iMac now floats serenely over my desk. The weight of my fully decked out BTO iMac was not an issue since after removing the aluminum stand the computer weighed in at 29 pounds. I did have to increase both tension settings of the arm. The installation took about an hour even with the three mistakes I made.
