You have all sorts of important stuff on your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. iCloud automatically backs it up every day over Wi-Fi when your device is connected to a power source. You don’t have to do a thing. And when you set up a new iOS device or need to restore information on one you already have, iCloud Backup does the heavy lifting. Connect your device to Wi-Fi and enter your Apple ID and password. Your personal data — along with purchased music, apps and books — will appear on your device, automatically.3

If checking the usual places hasn’t turned up your missing device, Find My iPhone can help.4 Just sign in at iCloud.com or use the Find My iPhone app on another device to locate yours on a map, display a message on its screen, remotely set a passcode lock or initiate a remote wipe to delete your data. With iOS 6, iCloud offers Lost mode — making it even easier to find and protect a missing iOS device. Lost mode immediately locks your device with a four-digit passcode and sends it a message displaying a contact number. That way, a good Samaritan can call you from your Lock screen without accessing the rest of the information on your device. While in Lost mode, your device even keeps track of where it’s been and reports back to you when you check in at iCloud.com or on the Find My iPhone app.
Good friends aren’t hard to find.
Find My Friends is a great way to share your location with people who are important to you.4 Family and friends who share their locations with you appear on a map so you can quickly see where they are and what they’re up to. And you can get location-based alerts — like when your kids leave school or arrive home. Find My Friends can also notify others about your location, so you can stay connected or keep track of the ones you love.
Free gets you a lot.
When you sign up for iCloud, you automatically get 5GB of free storage. And that’s plenty of room, because of the way iCloud stores your content. Your purchased music, apps and books — as well as your Photo Stream — don’t count towards your free storage. That 5GB goes a long way for your mail, documents, account information, settings and other app data. And if you need more storage, you can easily purchase an upgrade straight from your device.
