Using Magic iDVD

You can use Magic iDVD to quickly create a Hollywood-style DVD of your imported movies and photos with your own digital content from iMovie HD, iDVD and add music from your iTunes library or GarageBand. You simply select the theme, movies, photos, and music you want to use, then let iDVD do the rest. Magic iDVD will assemble your DVD and even use your photos and movies to personalize the DVD menus.

Create a Magic iDVD

  1. Start iDVD and click the “Create a Magic iDVD” button or choose Magic iDVD from the File menu.
  2. Give your DVD a title and choose a theme for your DVD menus.
  3. Click the Movies button in the iLife Media Browser, select the movies you want to include, and drag them to the Drop Movies Here area.

  7. When the process is complete, iDVD ejects your DVD and you can play it on a DVD player.

Tips

Adding music to your slideshow

Magic iDVD makes it easy to add music to your slideshows. Click the Audio button in the iLife Media Browser, choose a song from your GarageBand projects or iTunes Music Library, and drag the song to the slideshow where it’ll play as background music. You'll notice a small speaker icon appears over the slideshow letting you know that it’s set to music.

Selecting only a few photos from an album

If you don't want to include all of the photos from an iPhoto album in your DVD slideshow, you can select only the ones you want. In the Photos pane of the iLife Media Browser, choose the iPhoto album, then hold the Command key while you select the individual photos you want to use. When you've chosen all the photos you want, drag them to the Drop Photos Here area.

Adding movies and photos directly from your hard drive

By default, iDVD looks for movies in your Movies folder, and photos in your iPhoto library. If you have movies or photos stored elsewhere on your computer, you can drag them directly into Magic iDVD from the Finder.

Adding more movies and slideshows

When you open Magic iDVD, you’ll see seven "wells" to drop movies and seven "wells" to drop photos for slideshows. If you want to add more than seven movies or slideshows to your DVD, use the resize control in the lower right corner to enlarge the Magic iDVD window.

Previewing your DVD

When you're ready to preview your project, click the Preview button. You’ll see your project appear in a new iDVD window. You’ll also see the iDVD remote control displayed onscreen, which lets you navigate your DVD as if you were using your DVD player’s remote control.

Creating an iDVD project from a Magic iDVD

Magic iDVD is a great way to get a quick start building a DVD with multiple movies and slideshows. If you want more control over your DVD design, click the Create Project button to save your Magic iDVD choices as an iDVD project. As an iDVD project your DVD can be customized with additional menus, media, and personal touches.
