Enhance Colors and Retouch Defects

If you want to try to fix the colors of a photo, but aren’t sure what to adjust, iPhoto’s Enhance feature can do the work for you. With the click of a button, iPhoto will automatically adjust a photo’s saturation, temperature, and tint.

In addition, you can easily remove marks such as blemishes and unwanted shadows using the Retouch feature. Also, a common problem with taking pictures with a flash is red-eye. iPhoto has an easy-to-use red-eye feature to help you easily fix these photos.

Tips

Avoid red-eye in your photos

When your camera’s flash goes off and a subject’s iris is enlarged because of a dark setting, you may see a phenomenon known as "red-eye" appear in your photo. Many cameras include a red-eye removal feature that helps to prevent subjects’ eyes from appearing red in photos by shining the flash into subjects’ eyes just before the picture is taken. This helps to narrow the iris of subjects, which then reduces the potential effects of red-eye. If you’re taking photos indoors, you can also reduce red-eye by turning on all the lights or moving the light closer to your subjects.

Zoom in before selecting the area to retouch or remove red-eye

You can zoom in before using the retouch or red-eye tools to make it easier to precisely select the area you want to retouch. To do so, drag the resize control to the right.

Steps

Retouch photo defects and enhance colors automatically

  1. In iPhoto, select a photo from your library.
  2. Click the Edit button.
  3. Click the Retouch button.
  4. Move your mouse over the photo, and notice the crosshair pointer appear.
  5. Position the crosshair pointer over the mark you want to remove, hold down the mouse, and then drag in short strokes to blend the mark into its surrounding colors.
