iPhoto lets you add a title, comments, and ratings to your photos. For example, you can set a photos title to "Kellys first soccer game," add a comment about where it was taken, and give it a rating from 1 to 5 according to how much you like it. Later, you can use this information to find, group, and publish your photos, or simply to quickly add captions to your photos in a webpage or photo book.
You can quickly rate a photo by just holding the Command key and typing 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, according to the rating you want. You can use these keyboard shortcuts whether you are viewing your photo library, working in edit mode, or viewing your photos in a slideshow.
There are two ways to edit a photos information. You can simply display the Information pane in the bottom left corner of the iPhoto window by pressing the Information button or you display the Photo Info panel by selecting Get Info from the Photos menu. The Photo Info panel will display more information about a particular photo, like your cameras make and model, exposure information, and keywords used.
To change the rating, title, or comment of multiple photos, select the photos that you want to edit, and choose Batch Change from the Photos menu. Make your edits from the pop-up menu, and then click OK.
You can quickly change a photos rating by Control-clicking the photo, or group of photos, selecting My Rating from the menu that appears, and then selecting the rating you want.
