View Photos on Your iPod

If you have an iPod with a color display, you can use your iPod to view and store digital photos, along with your favorite music.

You’ll use iTunes to copy photos from your library to your iPod. It’s important to note that iTunes 4.7 or later is required to transfer photos to your iPod.

Tips

Using the Belkin Media Reader and Belkin Digital Camera Link

You can use the Belkin Media Reader or Belkin Digital Camera Link to transfer your images to the iPod. However, to view the images directly on your iPod you will need to import them into your computer first, then have them updated to your iPod.

Supported image types

iPods with a color display support a wide range of file types, JPG, GIF, Tiff, Pict, PNG, jpg 2000, SGI, and BMP.

Viewing images as a slideshow on your iPod

You can view the images from your iPod as a slideshow. Navigate to Photos from the main menu of the iPod, and then choose Photo Library or an album you want to watch. Now just click the Select button twice to start the slideshow.

Changing slideshow settings

You can change the slideshow settings in the Slideshow Settings menu. From this screen, you can choose music to play during the slideshow, decide whether to repeat or shuffle photos, turn on transitions, and set up your TV to show the slideshow.

Viewing images as a slideshow on your television

If you want to watch the slideshow on your television, you will need to attach the iPod AV cable to the line-out connector of the iPod photo Dock, or the headphone jack on the iPod. Then navigate to Photos from the main menu of the iPod, and choose the photos you would like to watch. Click the Select button two times to bring up the Start Slideshow menu. From here you can tell the iPod to view the images on your television (NTSC or PAL) through the TV Off or TV On options. Choose TV On, and the slideshow will play on your television. When the slideshow is finished, the music will continue to play and the last image will remain on the screen.

Viewing photos on a NTSC or PAL television

Your iPod can display your images on either a NTSC or PAL television. By default, your iPod will be set to either NTSC or PAL depending on where the iPod is sold. This can be changed in the Slideshow Settings menu. Navigate to the Slideshow Setting by starting at the main menu, clicking the Photos option, then Slideshow Settings. When you are on that menu, choose TV Signal, and click the select button to choose the TV type you have.

Keeping your iPhoto slide show music in sync

On your Mac, if you set an album in iPhoto to be a slideshow with music from your iTunes library, you can set your iPod to use the music when it plays the photos in a slideshow. First make sure that the songs you select from iTunes are set to sync with your iPod. Next, use iTunes to sync the album that contains the photos. Once these photo and music are on your iPod you’ll need to set up the slideshow to use the settings from iPhoto. In the Slideshow Settings menu select Music and then choose From iPhoto. Now when you watch your slideshow, you’ll hear the same music you chose in iPhoto.

Steps

Transfer photos from your computer to your iPod

  1. Create an album in iPhoto that contains the images you want to transfer to your iPod.
  2. With your iPod connected, select your iPod in the iTunes Source list and then click the iPod Options button.
  3. In the iPod preferences window, click the Photos tab.
  4. Select an iPhoto album or choose Other to select the folder, or other location, of photos on your hard disk (iTunes cannot access photos that are stored on a locked volume, like a CD).
  5. Click OK, and then watch as your iPod is updated, transferring your photos along with your music.
  6. When the update is complete, eject your iPod and disconnect it from your computer.
  7. To view your pictures on your iPod, from the iPod’s main menu select Photos, then select the photos you want to display.
  8. Notice the small images that appear on the screen. Use the Click Wheel to choose the image you want to display and then click the Select button.
  9. Use the forward and back buttons on the iPod to switch between the photos. Or use the Click Wheel to scroll through your photos.
  10. When you are done viewing the photos, click the Menu button to return to the main menu.
