Share Photos on a Network

Artists show their work in galleries. Now your home or office can be an online gallery using iPhoto. Show off your masterpieces by choosing which photos or album to share. Any photos that others have shared will show up in your Source list for you to view.

You can share your photos and albums in iPhoto if your computer is connected to a local network, and you are running Mac OS X 10.2.6 or later. You can even require a password to restrict access to your shared photos.

Tips

Choose to share only specific albums

When sharing your photos, you can choose to share only specific ones. In the iPhoto Preferences under Sharing you can select the checkbox for Share my photos. If you want to share only specific albums, select Share selected albums, and check the box next to the albums you want shared.

Password protect your photos

Sharing your photos with others is great, but what if you want to protect your images with a password? You can password-protect your shared albums in iPhoto Preferences. Open iPhoto Preferences, then choose the Sharing tab, make sure the checkbox next to require password is selected, and choose a password. Now when people view your album, they will see a lock on your album, and will need the password to view your pictures.

Steps

Share your photos and look for shared photos over the network

  1. Choose Preferences from the iPhoto menu, and click Sharing at the top of the Preferences window.
  2. Select the "Share my photos" checkbox, and then choose your entire library or only the albums you want to share.
  3. Type a name for your shared items in the "Shared name" field.
  4. Enter a password in the "Require password:" field, and select the checkbox if you want to restrict who can view your photos.
  5. Select the "Look for shared photos" checkbox, and then close iPhoto Preferences.
