Fix or Change Song Information

When you import music to your iTunes library, there is a lot of information included with the song file. With iTunes, not only can you view that information, you can also add your own. For example, you might want to add "3/4" to the Comments field of your waltz music, or rate your favorite songs with five stars. Then you can use these comments and ratings to create more effective Smart Playlists, or to search your library.

Tips

Quickly change song information

Sometimes you’ll want a quick way to change information about a song. For example, perhaps you want to change a song’s genre. Or maybe you want to add the word "live" or "remix" to the end of the song name. You can change song information right from the iTunes Library. Select a song, and then click any field in the iTunes window. Now you can simply type the information you want to add.

Entering information for multiple songs at once

If you want to make changes to several songs at once, like changing the album name, or genre for example, you can select the songs you want to edit, go to the File menu and choose Get Info. In the window that appears you can make the changes you want, and when you click OK, the changes will be applied to all the songs selected.

Adding your own CD art work

Songs you purchase from the iTunes Music Store include album artwork. However, you can add your own graphics to any song or album in your library. To do so, click the "Show or hide song artwork and video viewer" button in the lower-left corner of the iTunes window. You can easily switch between the selected song and currently playing song, by clicking the "Selected Song" or "Now Playing" text above the album art. To add album art to a song, select a song in your library, and then drag an image from your hard disk to the Artwork pane. The image will be displayed every time you listen to that song. You can assign a different picture to every song, or assign one picture to a group of songs.

Adjust the volume of an individual song

If you a song that’s a little too loud or too soft, you can have iTunes adjust the volume every time it plays that song. Select the song, go to the File menu, and choose Get Info. In the window that appears, click the Options button and use the Volume Adjustment slider to adjust the song’s volume.

Changing info on a podcast or audiobook

Podcasts and audiobooks have a couple of additional settings that you might want to change. Normally the right settings are selected for you, but if your podcast or audiobook isn’t bookmarking or playing when you want it to, you can try checking these settings. Select a podcast episode or audiobook, and then go to the File menu and choose Get Info. In the Options tab, notice the options for "Remember playback position" and "Skip when shuffling." You might want to select the "Remember playback position" option if you want to be able to bookmark your podcast or audiobook. If you want your podcast or audiobook to play when you are in Shuffle mode, you’ll want to deselect the "Skip when shuffling option." You’ll learn more about podcasts and listening to audiobooks later in this tutorial.
