Getting Started with iWeb

When you’re ready to create your website, start by deciding what you want to include on the site. What do you want to communicate? What kinds of information will you share? Once you have a plan, starting your new website is easy with iWeb’s predesigned themes and templates that bring together harmonious fonts, backgrounds, and colors.

You can choose from many page templates, including an About Me page, photo and movie templates, as well as blog and podcast pages. Each of these page designs has placeholders for text and images.

Tips

Create a new website

Each website you create will include at least one page. You can use iWeb to create multiple websites. The Start Site is the first one listed in the Site Organizer and the start page is the first page listed in that site. You can rearrange sites and pages by dragging them in the Site Organizer.

Saving your webpages

When you quit iWeb, all your webpages and websites are saved with the application. To work on your sites later, open the iWeb application: your sites and pages will appear in the site organizer.

Rename a website

You can rename a website at any time by double-clicking its name in the Site Organizer and typing the new name. The website name is included in the website’s address: (URL) http://web.mac.com/YourMemberName/iweb/SiteName. If you’ve already published a site, its name on the web will change the next time you publish.

Change the background of a webpage

You can change a page’s background color, or even use an image as the background. In the site organizer, select the page whose background you want to change. Click Inspector in the toolbar, then click the Page Inspector button. Choose a color an image file from the Page Background pop-up menu. Changing the webpage background does not affect the backgrounds of images or text boxes.

Change the browser background color

Each webpage has specific dimensions (set in the Page Size area of the Page Inspector). When people expand their browser window to a size larger than your webpage, the browser background—the area outside the page—shows. You can change the color of the browser background. Click Inspector in the toolbar, and then click the Page Inspector button. In the Page Inspector, click the Browser Background color well. In the Colors window, select a color by dragging the slider and clicking the color wheel.
