Adding a Podcast

Podcasts have become a popular way to communicate over the Internet. With iWeb, you can quickly post podcasts so your friends and family can hear what’s on your mind.

iWeb’s integration with GarageBand and iMovie, along with the podcast page templates, makes it simple to get your latest audio or video podcast episode up on the air. And if you want to be famous, you can even submit your podcast to the iTunes Music Store, making it easy for viewers to find and subscribe to.

Tips

Add a podcast without using GarageBand

You can add any supported audio file (MP3, MP4, or any other format that iTunes supports) or video file to a blog entry to create a podcast. To add a podcast not created in GarageBand or iMovie, select Entries in the Site Organizer, then select the blog entry you want to add the podcast to. Drag the audio or video file (from the iLife Media Browser or the Finder) to the placeholder on the entry. If you drag an audio or movie file to a location other than the placeholder, visitors won’t be able to download it via iTunes (but can still see it in the entry on your site. Some media files are protected under copyright law. Make sure you have permission to use the files you want to include.

Submit a podcast to the iTunes Music Store

You can submit a podcast to the iTunes Music Store from iWeb. In the Site Organizer, select the main podcast or blog page or the entry that contains the podcast you want to submit. In the Podcast tab of the RSS inspector, enter information about the podcast series or episode and make sure the "Allow in iTunes Music Store" checkbox is selected. From the File menu choose Submit Podcast to iTunes. In the Submit window, enter additional information you want to include in your podcast. If you have artwork you want to appear with your podcast, drag it to the graphic placeholder at the top of the Submit window. Click "Publish and Submit." In the iTunes window, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the submission process. Note: Some media files are protected under copyright law. Make sure you have permission to use the files you want to include.

Video Podcasts

Podcasts are like radio or TV shows that are downloaded over the Internet. Visitors can download an individual podcast episode or subscribe to a podcast series. When visitors subscribe to a podcast, the latest episode is downloaded to iTunes on their computer, as well as the next time iTunes checks for new episodes. Once the episodes are in iTunes, visitors will be able to load them in their video iPod.

Steps

Adding a Podcast that you created in GarageBand

  1. In GarageBand, create the project and add features to your podcast—artwork, URLs, chapter titles, and so on.
  2. Choose File and select Send Podcast to iWeb.
  3. iWeb adds the podcast to your podcast blog as its own entry. If you don’t have a podcast blog, iWeb creates one for you. If you have more than one podcast blog, you can choose which one to add the podcast to.
  4. You can edit any of the placeholder text on the entry page by double-clicking it.
