iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant
Calls and connection issues
Welcome
Are you having trouble making or receiving a call? Can't send or receive a text message? Unable to access the Internet and aren't near an accessible Wi-Fi network? Try the following solutions.
Check signal
- Check the top left corner of iPhone's display to make sure you have a strong signal.

- Make sure Airplane Mode is turned off.
- If you're not using Wi-Fi and you're trying to access the Internet, make sure you have a cellular data connection by checking next to the carrier name at the top of the screen for one of the following indicators:
3G connection
EDGE connection
GPRS connection
Note: iPhone will display the Wi-Fi
or one of the cellular data network icons to the right of your carrier name if it has an active network connection. If you are using Wi-Fi, you won't see a cellular data network indicator unless you turn off Wi-Fi. To turn off Wi-Fi, tap Settings > Wi-Fi
New Location
If you don't have a strong signal or don't see a cellular data network indicator, try moving to a different location. Please note:
- If you are indoors, trying going outdoors or moving closer to a window.
- Check with your carrier to verify that you have wireless coverage in your area.
Toggle Airplane Mode
Turn on Airplane Mode (Settings -> Airplane mode), wait 15 seconds, and then turn Airplane Mode off again. This resets all of iPhone's wireless connections.
If you see a Wi-Fi
icon to the right of the airplane icon, it means you have enabled Wi-Fi while airplane mode is on. To disable, toggle airplane mode again.
Restart
Try restarting iPhone. To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Does iPhone appear frozen or stuck? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds. During this time, a red "power off" slider may appear and the screen may go black, but do not release Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until the Apple logo appears.

Reseat the SIM
To remove the SIM card, insert the end of a small paper clip into the hole on the SIM tray.

Insert the SIM card using the same method.
Note: For best results, use the SIM card included with iPhone.
Restore
Try restoring iPhone using iTunes.
Connect iPhone. When it appears in the Source list, click on Restore in the Summary pane.
Note: This will delete all media and data. All settings will be reset as well. If possible, sync iPhone with iTunes before restoring to back up your most recent settings.
