Getting to Know the iTunes Music Store

Buying music from the iTunes Music Store is easy. It appears right in a window with simple navigation that works just like your favorite web browser. You can look for songs, albums, or artists, and listen to 30-second previews of every track. This way, you’ll be sure that the song you purchase is exactly the one you want. And you’ll be delighted when you find music and videos you’ll never find at your typical music store.

After you find what you want, you purchase it and download it—legally—right to your iTunes music library. You don’t have to be connected to the Internet to listen to your purchased music, but you do need to be online to access the iTunes Music Store.

Tips  Step by Step

Find exclusive music
The iTunes Music Store has exclusive tracks that are available only through Apple, giving you access to previously unreleased tracks, alternative mixes of songs, and even rare live recordings. Here’s your chance to purchase tracks that the general public has never heard. You’ll find all the exclusive tracks right on the iTunes Music Store home page in the Exclusive Track section.

Watch music videos
Some artists have made their videos available to view only through the iTunes Music Store. You’ll find these videos featured on some artists’ main pages where all their albums are listed; Bob Dylan: for example. When you find a video in the iTunes Music Store, you’ll be treated to a full-length QuickTime video.

Preview an iTunes Music Store track by following these steps:

  1. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet.
  2. In iTunes, select Music Store in the Source list. The iTunes Music Store home page appears in the iTunes window.
  3. Click one of the blue-and-white arrow icons in the New Releases section to see more new albums.
  4. Click an album cover to see all the music on that album.
  5. Select any song name in the list, and then click the Play button to hear a 30-second preview.
