Understanding Your Digital Music Rights

movie buttonkey points button
You can truly feel good about buying music from the iTunes Music Store. In fact, you’ll be able to enjoy it in almost all the ways you enjoy the CDs you buy at a music store. For example, just as you might listen to a CD at home, in your car, and at work, you can listen to your iTunes Music Store music on up to five different computers. The first time you play a song that you’ve purchased your computer becomes “authorized” to play all the music you’ve purchased. This authorization helps protect the artists’ copyrights.

You can also download your purchased music to an unlimited number of iPod devices to take your songs on the road. You can add the music you purchased from the iTunes Music Store to any of your playlists. And you can even burn your purchased music to a CD.

Tips  Key Points
You can burn up to seven CDs per playlist
If you try to burn a playlist that includes iTunes Music Store songs to more than seven CDs, you’ll be required to modify the playlist. You can change the order of the songs, or add or delete songs, and then burn additional CDs. This helps protect the artists’ copyrights.

As the authorized rightholder of music you buy from the iTunes Music Store:

  • You don’t need an Internet connection to listen to your purchased music.
  • You can include your purchased music in custom playlists and burn it to a CD.
  • You can listen to your purchased music on an unlimited number of iPod devices.
  • You can share your music on four other computers.
  • Your purchased music is yours forever; you don’t need to subscribe to any service.
  • You can use your purchased music in applications other than iTunes. For example, you can use it in a movie you make or in a presentation you create.
