1. How can I tell if my MacBook Pro needs service?
Visit our MacBook Pro Support page for helpful troubleshooting
information. If you have reviewed the articles on the website, and you're still not sure whether your MacBook Pro requires service, you can take
your MacBook Pro to your local Apple Authorized Service Provider ("AASP") or
Apple retail store for diagnosis. Alternatively, you can contact Apple.
A technical support agent can help you diagnose the issue.
Note: Diagnostic fees may apply for issues not covered under warranty or the AppleCare Protection Plan (APP).
2. How do I get my MacBook Pro serviced?
Apple may provide service for your MacBook Pro using one of the following options:
- Carry-in Service: Take your MacBook Pro to an Apple retail store or AASP near you.
- Mail-in Service: In some countries you may be able to mail your MacBook Pro for service, by contacting Apple.
3. How long will my MacBook Pro service take?
Service times often depend on the nature of the issue and the availability of service parts at the service location. Be sure to ask how long service will take when you set up service with Apple's technical support agents or deliver your MacBook Pro for service to an AASP or the Apple Store.
4. Will the data on my MacBook Pro be preserved?
Don't rely on it being preserved. Many repairs require Apple to replace or reformat the hard disk, which will result in the loss of your data. Please make sure you back up your data on a regular basis to minimize your data loss. Apple and its AASPs are not responsible for any damage to or loss of any applications, data, or other information stored on your MacBook Pro while performing service.
5. How do I check the status of my MacBook Pro service request?
For service facilitated through Apple, you can check the status of your service request or repair at any time on our easy service status website.
6. One of my MacBook Pro accessories isnt working. Can I order a replacement?
Most accessories that shipped with your computer can be replaced. Please contact your local AASP or Apple retail store, or contact Apple. A technical support agent can help you diagnose the issue and order a replacement part, if necessary.
1. How long is my MacBook Pro covered by Apples warranty?
Your MacBook Pro is covered by Apples Limited Warranty for one year. Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of original retail purchase ("date of purchase").
2. How can I tell if my MacBook Pro is in-warranty?
To determine your warranty coverage, enter the serial number of your MacBook Pro in our Online Service Assistant.
Apple may need to examine your proof of purchase document to verify your MacBook Pros warranty status.
Warranty service for eligible repairs is available at no charge for twelve months from the date of purchase. However, you will be responsible for all expenses incurred in transporting your MacBook Pro to Apple, an AASP, or Apple retail store.
4. What kind of activities will void my warranty?
Apples One-Year Limited Warranty for MacBook Pro excludes coverage for damage resulting from a number
of events, including accident, liquid spill or submersion, unauthorized service and unauthorized
modifications. If damage is outside the scope of warranty coverage, service may be available
through a local AASP or an Apple retail store, but all service charges will be your
responsibility. In such an event, you will be asked to approve the estimated charges and accept
the terms and conditions for service before authorizing the repair. If the repair is performed
at an Apple retail store
Apple's Repair Terms and Conditions will govern service.
Repair service for a MacBook Pro that has experienced catastrophic damage, for example extensive
liquid damage or a severe impact that results in the product being disassembled into multiple
pieces, is generally not available and not eligible for service.
5. Can I extend service coverage on my MacBook Pro beyond the 1-year warranty?
The AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro extends hardware repair service and technical support coverage to three years from your MacBook Pros original date of purchase. You can only purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan while your MacBook Pro is covered under Apple's One-Year Limited Warranty.
6. Does Apple warranty cover my MacBook Pro service?
For an MacBook Pro under Apples One-Year Limited Warranty, Apple warrants against defects that arise from service performed for 90 days from the date of service or for the
remaining period of the warranty, whichever provides longer coverage for you. For an MacBook Pro not under Apples warranty, Apple warrants against
defects that arise from service performed for 90 days from the date of service.
7. My MacBook Pro warranty has expired. What are my service options?
Apple offers two service options for an MacBook Pro that is no longer within warranty.
If your MacBook Pro requires service only because the batterys ability to hold an electrical charge has diminished, Apple will repair your MacBook Pro for a service fee. Read more about the Battery Replacement Program.
If you own an MacBook Pro, and it requires service for any other issue, you still have access to all available service options, but you will be responsible for the cost of service, including parts, labor, shipping (if any), and applicable taxes. AppleCare or your local AASP or Apple retail store representative will provide you with an estimate of service costs before receiving your authorization to perform service.
