1. Confirm that your hardware can run Mac OS X 10.3 Panther. Mac OS X 10.3 requires a Macintosh with a PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor, built-in USB, at least 128MB of physical RAM and a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer. Mac OS X does not support processor upgrade cards. 2. Make sure your devices work with Panther. 3. Verify that you have enough hard drive space. 4. Plug in your portable computer. 5. Mac OS X updates: Have your username and password available. Panther Installation Options Upgrade: Panthers Upgrade installation option will upgrade all necessary components of your old system software and leave your personal files and most preferences completely intact. This option is highly recommended for most users.
Archive and Install: Panthers Archive and Install feature moves existing system files to a folder named Previous System and then installs Mac OS X again. You may also opt to preserve your user and network settings during the installation, which will automatically import existing users, Home directories, and network settings. more...
