1. How do I set up my Mail account?

If you already setup email in the setup assistant, you won’t need to do it again. If you haven’t:

First, gather your email account information from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). This information will include your email address, account password, and mail server information.

Second, configure your account in Mail by using the Mail Setup window or by opening Mail Preferences. You can create a new account, and enter your account information to complete setup.

2. How do I check mail if I have multiple email accounts?
The Mail application can retrieve messages from multiple email accounts. For example, if you have work and personal email accounts, Mail can be set up to retrieve messages from both accounts.

3. Why can’t I send/receive/forward mail?

If you can’t send or forward email, there may be an issue with your connection to the Internet, your network, your mail server, or you may be blocked by a firewall.

If you can’t receive email, there are several possible reasons. Your mail settings may be incorrect in Mail Preferences, there may be an issue with your mail server or mail account, or you might be blocked by a firewall.

4. How do I set up mail filters?

In Mail, you can set up "rules" to filter incoming messages or reorganize messages you’ve already received. You can automatically file, forward, or highlight a message based on a variety of critera.

5. Do I need to type my password every time I check my mail?

If you enter your password during account setup, your password is automatically stored by Mail in your Mac OS X keychain and by default you have automatic login. If you don’t want auto login, leave the password field in your account setup blank.

6. I’m having problems sending/receiving attachments with Windows users.
If you are having trouble sending attachments to Windows users, you may need to make the files “Windows-friendly”. If you receive email, but can’t open attachments from Windows users, there are several solutions you can try.
