1. My computer’s not starting up correctly.

Use these steps if your computer experiences a blue screen, broken folder icon, gray screen, kernel panic, flashing question mark, or otherwise stops responding when starting up.

2. My computer starts up with a command line prompt.
Every time the computer starts up, a text-based command-line-interface appears that says: “To continue booting, type ‘mac-boot’ and press return.”

3. I forgot my password.
If you forget your password for your computer, insert the Mac OS X CD and restart your computer while holding down the C key. When the Installer appears, choose Reset Password from the Installer menu and follow the onscreen instructions.

4. My computer beeps during startup, then nothing happens.
Use this information if you hear a sound other than the expected system startup tone when you turn on your computer.

5. How do I set my computer to sleep?
You can put your computer to sleep right away by choosing Sleep from the Apple menu. You can also configure your computer to sleep automatically after it’s been inactive for a while.

6. Why won’t my computer shut down?
If your computer won’t shutdown, an application may need your attention. Check each application to make sure it has quit and then try to shut down your computer again.
