Apple UK Retail In-store Take-back Programme

Apple’s commitment to being a responsible environmental citizen includes working to ensure that the electronic equipment we design and build is properly disposed of at the end of its useful life. Apple’s free take-back programme makes it easy for you to play a role in helping to protect the environment.

Eligibility and qualification

Free in-store take-back is offered to individuals purchasing new or refurbished (also known as “refreshed”) electronic equipment such as a computer, monitor, mobile phone, digital music player and peripheral at an Apple Retail Store in the United Kingdom.

Qualified purchasers are eligible to return one piece of electronic equipment with each purchase of an equivalent piece of equipment.

Apple also offers a free take-back programme for iPod products and any mobile phones, with no obligation to purchase. Find out more about this programme.

Apple will accept electronic equipment from any manufacturer, except products contaminated with chemicals, biological agents or other substances not integral to the original equipment.

Apple will not accept hazardous waste as well as cracked or broken batteries and cracked or broken displays.

Products returned to Apple, and the components contained therein, will be reused, recycled, recovered or disposed of as appropriate in accordance and compliance with EU and domestic legislation.

Notice regarding data

Any electronic equipment returned in the frame of this programme will be non-returnable.

Customers making use of the Apple take-back programme agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, and in returning electronic equipment, the customer confirms the return as final.

Apple accepts no responsibility or liability for the loss or confidentiality of customer data on the equipment that is taken back. Before returning the equipment to Apple, the customer should:

  • Delete data on the hard-disk drives and any other storage devices in the product(s).
  • Back up or transfer any data prior to deletion.
  • Remove any removable media, such as diskettes, CDs, DVDs or PC Cards.
  • Remove the SIM card from the mobile phone(s).

Once the hardware has been returned to Apple, Apple cannot return it to the customer. Participation in this programme constitutes a relinquishment of all rights to the hardware and other computer materials returned to Apple.

Apple provides this service as a courtesy and accepts no liability to any person for any services performed in connection with the take-back services offered in these terms, and specifically disclaims liability for lost profits, loss of business or other consequential, special, indirect or punitive damages, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.
