Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter

  • Overview

Every Mac with a Mini DisplayPort allows you to connect an external display or projector using an adapter. You can use an external display as your main workspace or to extend your desktop, or you can work in mirrored mode with a projector so you can view what your audience sees.

Use the Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter to connect your Mac to a standard analogue monitor, projector, or LCD that uses a VGA connector or cable. Review the documentation or check with the manufacturer of your monitor to make sure you're choosing the right adapter.

    System Requirements

Compatible with Mac computers with Mini DisplayPort and Thunderbolt ports

      Doesn't work with data projectors

I found that it works fine with some small (20 inch) Samsung monitors that have a VGA input but it doesn't work with any of the data projectors I have in my university department so I can't use my new MacBook Pro (unipart aluminium case) for Powerpoint presentations, which was one of the main reasons for buying the laptop. The problem seems to be that the laptop senses the data projector ( and scales down the laptop display to VGA) but the projector doesn't detect the laptop (and so fails to display the image from the laptop screen). My old MacBookPro (Intel core duo) works fine with all data projectors (using the DVI to VGA adaptor) and I'm now in the silly position of having to use the old laptop for all travel (conferences etc) plus teaching in the university. The wonderful looking new MacBook Pro has to stay at home. Apple needs to issue a firmware fix or a better adaptor as soon as possible.

Screwed the cable to the adaptor, plugged the cable into the projector, turned on the projector, plugged the cable into the Mac (2010 MacBook Pro). Instant recognition. Set display for mirroring, connected the audio socket to my Pure Avanti radio. Bingo! All worked first time. Presentation successful. Congregation wowed by a 10 minute film show.

      Works perfectly!

I ordered this after finding my old VGA monitor, had no money to buy a new one and needed to move my mac away from the shared TV room so I can actually use it. I ordered this after finding my old VGA monitor, had no money to buy a new one and needed to move my mac away from the shared TV room so I can actually use it. This adaptor was a live saver and can now use my mac mini after 2 months of it sitting turned on in the shared TV room. Thank you Apple for supporting legacy monitors!

It Works! Samsung owners, read your manual first!!!!!!!

Great product, works perfectly. Those Samsung owners complaining that this product doesn't work on Samsung TV's, well, perhaps you should have read your manuals Great product, works perfectly. Those Samsung owners complaining that this product doesn't work on Samsung TV's, well, perhaps you should have read your manuals first. Samsung has restricted certain modern TV's to use DVI, not VGA. So it's a Samsung Support Issue! Don't blame Apple for it not working. Remember folks, VGA only supports picture, you need a separate stereo/phono cable for audio.
