  • Overview

The 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with 15- or 17-inch MacBook Pro.

I took it into the Apple Store and asked them to test it and they confirmed it needed replacing so they gave me a new one! Why do so many Reviewers criticise products that by their very nature can go wrong sooner than they should, without telling Apple about the problem first. You talk about having to spend £60 repeatedly to replace these adapters. Firstly how well do you look after your equipment? Secondly why just buy another one and moan about having to do so without giving Apple the opportunity to put it right? I have never received anything but exceptional service from Apple. Yes things can go wrong but that is what the warranty and AppleCare is there for. Buy it and use it. Also this new style adapter DOES fit an older MacBook Pro without any problems at all.

Most definitely IS compatible with 2008 MacBook Pro

I saw the comment by someone claiming this is not compatible with the 2008 MacBook Pro and I was cautious. From the new MacBooks and the old ones to -- One of them caught fire at the cable end near the laptop when it ruptured and sparked ! Apple - Do you have NO - I mean ZERO concern for the environment - ? or is it your intention to SELL 5 chargers per MACBOOK you sell > ! Make the cable that breaks either designed so it does not break, terrible industrial design - OR - Make it replaceable like the power cord. How hard can that be ! Its a terrible - not to standard product from Apple - (I would give zero stars if possible)

Why Apple didn't design the cord to be as interchangeable as the plug I cannot understand. This is a flawed design that is not up to Apple standards and Apple has plenty of time to change it. Very disappointed in this product.

I am about to order my third charger, with moderate to light use. It's not one of the top 50 companies for nothing..... It makes a lot of revenue on accessories, which always cost more than the average product out there. I would be happy if I got value for money on these accessories. I love my Mac, but hate the charging leads....
