Take care - not the same FireWire fitting as older iMacs!

Like all Apple cables this is very expensive and short but stylish and well made. I bought it to use on my new iMac which has Thunderbolt only outlets so that I could still content FireWire devices that I used with my FireWire equipped 2009 iMac. However, the old iMacs have FireWire 400 outlets and this cable is the differently shaped 800 FireWire. So, a further cable or adapter is needed to connect to the device. A shame that Apple don't include this option.

Works well with a couple of caveats

The Presonus only has firewire 400 ports, and as you all know, the MBP doesn't have firewire at all. I had previously used a firewire 400 to 800 converter cable with my old 2011 MBP, and I am still using that to connect to this adapter. Initially, I was very disappointed, as I couldn't get my MBP to see the Presonus. However, I tried connecting to an old FW400 external hard disk, and that mounted up without any problems. After a bit of experimentation, I discovered that the order in which my equipment was switched on was critical - contrary to instructions on the Presonus website, I had to switch the Mac on first, followed by the Presonus. Once I'd worked that out, everything started working just fine. I contacted the Apple and Presonus help desks about this issue, and neither could understand why it should occur. So, in summary - now working well, although I must mention that I don't bus-power any of my equipment, but use external power supplies.

Thus freezing on the boot screen indefinitely. The adapter and PC are both fine and have no hardware issues (Dell engineer replaced thunderbolt card and same issue), this is purely a compatibility issue. This adapter is not fully Windows compatible. However, it works well on other Macs (I have access to 2014 iMacs)
