  • Overview

The 45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector so if someone should trip over it, the cord disconnects harmlessly and your MacBook Air stays put safely. It also helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector lights up; an amber light lets you know that your notebook is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives you an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible only with MacBook Air featuring MagSafe 2 power port.

Works perfectly - even with rMBP15

Works flawlessly. The heating issues described must be related to the input voltage as I have never experienced anything close to overheating on Danish 230 V. The MagSafe 2 plug fastens securely to the rMBP, too. Less so to the MBA13 - but have never had an issue worth mentioning (though I do have to pay a little attention to it when in bed/on the sofa).

Had mine for around four years and no sign of wear and tear or "dangerous" overheating to date… and as for the comments about the cable being shoddy; our has withstood many a ferocious kitty mauling! Perhaps the good folk of Grumpton on the Whine would do well to remember that a] one must care for one's possessions if they're to last, b] nothing lasts forever and c] on the rare occasion a dud sneak out of the factory and plops in your lap, Apple will, in all likelihood, exchange it for a good 'un with neither fuss nor fanfare should you take the trouble pop along to a store for a polite chat with your friendly neighbourhood Genius™. :)

The covering is extremely flimsy and as such the wiring keeps becoming exposed and ceasing to work. Have treated the device with a lot of care since the last two broke. Shame there is no alternative. Please fix this Apple.

Pretty design is simply not robust enough

Oh, they're very pretty to look at, but these are for portable devices, so they need to be more robust than they are. This design simply doesn't stand up to the normal rigours of a device that lives in a bag, is constantly deployed and re-deployed. I've had to order a few over the years which, along with the many negative reviews, would suggest that this is a well known problem, which is disappointing. Is it too much to ask for a PSU that outlives the device is powers?
