Automatic wireless backup.
AirPort Time Capsule includes a 2TB or 3TB hard drive that works with Time Machine in OS X to create the perfect no-hassle backup solution.1 There are no cables, and you can back up all the Mac computers in your home to a central location — automatically, wirelessly, and in the background.
Ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.
With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Time Capsule gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.2 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.
Designed with performance in mind.
With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Time Capsule now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.
Easy setup for iOS and OS X.
Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Time Capsule and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.
Share your hard drive or printer.
AirPort Time Capsule can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.
Compatibility and security.
Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Time Capsule. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Time Capsule features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

Once setup i have noticed a massive performance increase across all my device from the superhub and the range is simply unbelievable! I used to have problems in my house with range but they are completely gone now, which is great. I was even able to add a WPS printer really easy too, from the base station menu, exactly what i was hoping for :-) All in all I am very happy and would strongly recommend this solution to anyone, regardless of skill level. …

By the time I got it home and out of the box, set my Virgin Media Super Hub to Modem Mode, plugged in the AirPort Time Capsule, downloaded the latest firmware via the AirPort Utility App on my iPhone, I was done in 10 mins. It was so simple to set up and I've noticed a performance boost for all my wifi connected devices now. Time Machine is set up on my Mac, and backing up seamlessly in the background. The build quality is superb, as to be expected from Apple. …

I have previously used an old Airport Extreme with hard-drive plugged in, which worked perfectly (until software updates to the Airport Utility made it defunct). However, please be aware: the new Time Capsule will not extend a WIFI network as suggested in the product literature, unless this is initiated from an Apple router. The only way satisfactory way to use this device is to hardwire it in to your DLNA router via ethernet. As far as I can see, the only reason to go for a Time Capsule in the first place, is so that it can be used as a wireless access point - which means it is not really fit for purpose!!! Since my DLNA router needs to be in our living room, near our Sky box, this is never going to work....
I advise everyone to read the support threads regarding WIFI set-up of this device, before even considering buying.
Mine will be going back to the local Apple Store tomorrow. What a waste of an evening trying to get it to work (not happy).... …

I have a Time Capsule, which has been ticking I've just lost a computer, the one I do my full time work on, which was a disaster. I have a Time Capsule, which has been ticking over in the corner of the room for the last year or so. When the new machine arrived, I plugged it into the Time Capsule and did a full restore, and it was as if I had never been without a computer, it had every single file, setting, application from the moment I lost my old computer.
Anyone who values the content of their computers needs to have something like this, as the moment when your computer is gone is an awful feeling unless you have it backed up completely. The Time Capsule has worked faultlessly and when the absolute worst happened, it's saved the day. Great product. …

Can I use the airport time capsule to also backup my iPad and iPhone

Ideally, you would want to use this product to backup your iPhone and iPad over WiFi so that you didn't need to use iCloud, but this is not supported. The solution being offered is to connect your iPhone or iPad to an OSX device, back them up using iTunes, and in-turn, those backup files would be copied over WiFi to the ATC. I agree that iCloud works well and is very convenient, but the pricing beyond a few Gigabytes is out of touch with reality, especially if you purchase one of the new iPhone 5/5c models at 32GB/64GB capacities. Thankfully, AppStore and iTunes purchases are backup up in their respective stores, but the majority of your space is likely to be photos and movies, and at full 1080p, your free iCloud allocation will be gone very quickly. …

Can one MacBook Air back up on two time capsules? (We live part time in two different states.)

Yes. But you have two different series of backups. We do exactly this. Obviously, while you are not Yes. But you have two different series of backups. We do exactly this. Obviously, while you are not there, it can't add to that backup, but it will backup to the one you are near. Then when you are near the other, ti backups to that one. So each backup has time gaps for when you are not there, but each has a complete backup of the most recent visit there. …
