    Ultra-fast 802.11ac Wi-Fi.

With 802.11ac technology and a powerful beamforming antenna array, AirPort Extreme gives you up to 3x faster Wi-Fi and a stronger, clearer signal.1 And because it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time, your wireless devices will automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest performance possible.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-design

    Designed with performance in mind.

With the antennas at the top of the elevated design, AirPort Extreme now has a higher platform for dispersing the signal. We also increased the number of antennas. There are now six of them — three for the 2.4GHz band and three for the 5GHz band. Together with 802.11ac technology, they let you connect faster, farther, and with more power than ever before.

    image.alt.pdp-airport-setup

Easy setup for iOS and OS X.

Connect your DSL or cable modem to AirPort Extreme and use the built-in setup assistant to create your new wireless network in just a few taps from your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. If you’re using a Mac, use the built-in AirPort Utility. Setup is just as fast and just as easy.

Share your hard drive or printer.

AirPort Extreme can turn any external USB hard drive into a secure drive you can share across your Wi-Fi network. So all the documents, videos, photos and other files instantly become available to anyone, Mac and PC users alike. You can even connect a printer and share it wirelessly.

    Compatibility and security.

Any Wi-Fi device you have will work with AirPort Extreme. That’s because it’s compatible with devices using the 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n and 802.11ac specifications. And since AirPort Extreme features a built-in firewall that protects your network from malicious Internet attacks, you can enjoy the web with peace of mind.

Excellent range, superb speeds, quick and easy set up, looks great. Supports local loopback feature which I really needed, the old standard package router I used to use has nothing on this new AirPort Extreme. Looking forward to using 802.11ac devices with it. Highly recommended, overall a great buy.

I was only able to get about 81 to 108 mbits/second from my corner of the house, but now it's 162 to 216. Meanwhile, in the room itself, computers there are getting 450 mbits/sec instead of 300. So even if you have old hardware there are benefits to speed and distance, as hoped and expected, but you never know.

Delighted so far, setup was straightforward, done in less than 10 minutes from opening the box. Gigabit ethernet is delivering the full bandwidth from my cable modem for the first time and the wireless coverage is uniformly excellent in my thick walled and three storey Victorian terrace, noticeably quicker for my n capable devices. I don't have any ac devices yet to test those even higher speeds. Wireless sharing of a Kodak printer also working as hoped. Happy to recommend - nice job Apple.

A big improvement for my home WiFi.

I purchased this Apple AirPort Extreme as my current internet router WiFi had a few black spots in my house and was not really that good. This has 100% improve I purchased this Apple AirPort Extreme as my current internet router WiFi had a few black spots in my house and was not really that good. This has 100% improved my home WiFi and made using all my Apple and iOS devices so much quicker on my home broadband. Good Points: - Very easy to set up and install. - Easy to set up with either my iOS device or Mac. - Has improved and increased my range of WiFi within my house and outside in the garden. - I like the fact that I can choose my one WiFi password and name of the AirPort Extreme. - The design of the AirPort Extreme is well designed and looks great in my house. The fact that it only has one light on it keeps the overview of the design very clean and simple. Bad Points: - When using the iOS app, to enter the settings page you have to enter a password, there was nothing that I could find that said that the password was the password used to get on the WiFi network. When I contacted my local Apple Store and Apple Care neither could tell me which password was required to enter the settings page on the iOS app. - The functionality of the AirPort Extreme is very basic but it does have some good extra features but the instructions that you get with it or what you can find out online don't really tell you how to use them. - It says online that when you go in to the settings of the AirPort Extreme you can see which devices are online with the router, you can see this but it only shows the IP address of that device not the name of the device, even my old free router from my IP provider showed me the name of each device online. Overall, if your looking to improve your home WiFi and get better range in your house and have more devices online at once then this AirPort Extreme could be the device for you. Its basic in features but makes up for it in other areas. Well worth the money and having a house full of wireless devices including several Apple devices this AirPort Extreme fits in perfectly with everything.

Changing the Superhub2 to modem mode was a doddle. Connecting up the AE was also easy and setting it up went smoothly without a hitch. All our devices, iMac, Macbook Air, Macbook Pro, iPhones & iPads connected straight away. The results are faster downloads, smoother video streaming, no more dropouts (so far) and a nice looking little white thing that just sits there with its tiny green light like something out of 2001: A Space Odessey.

WiFi range should be much better

It's easy to set up and does most of the things that your average user would want (don't buy if you expect advanced options!). However, the range very quickly drops off if you go to another room or upstairs ie a fairly standard home setup. I bought this as a home router to replace a BT Home Hub 5 but disappointingly, the (free) BT WiFi range is a lot better than the (rather pricey) Airport Extreme 802.11 AC. Sorry Apple but I expect better than this!
