Will an IPad work with Microsfot Small Business Server? What specs do I need to look for to ensure compatability?

  • What do you mean by "work with"?

If you're running IIS, then any web-enabled device will "work with" it. If you're trying to run some highly proprietary Microsoft web application that heavily depends on ASPX or something, to what extent it'll "work", depends on what web browsers you use. Safari is the typical iOS browser. But there are various others like Chrome, Opera and so on. No Internet Explorer, thank goodness.

If you're running an Exchange server, the Mail, Calendar and Notes applications in iOS can be easily configured to "work with" them. If you want Active Directory logins to your iOS device, that will not "work with" Small Business Server. If you want to administer your Small Business Server, you could use a Remote Desktop (RDP) app to login, so that would "work with" it.

As you can see my friend, it all depends on what it is that you're trying to do. So, what are you trying to do?

  • It depends what you need to do with it? iPad is very compatible with Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2/2007/2010 - and will work with SBS VPN and file sharing capabilites. You may need to purchase a few apps to make this happen.

    Hope this helps.
