    Finding the £ key

    • Written by from BISHOP'S STORTFORD

Although I am generally very happy with this keyboard (though I would prefer it if it had the additional numeric keypad as my wired one does), what is driving me mad is the £ key!

Although you can use the shift key with any of the other number keys to get the symbol above the number; with the 3 key you have to use the Alt key to the get the £ symbol above. Using the shift key gives you a #. I rang Apple and they said "that's just the way it is".

It's completely counter-intuitive to have to use the Alt key for this one key. Apple - PLEASE TAKE NOTE AND CHANGE THIS!

Excellent little keyboard, looks good, great battery life, feels good to type on and THERE IS A DELETE KEY!!! Use "fn" + "backspace". Took me a year to discover this by mistake, but there you go...

    a beautiful keyboard

    • Written by from STRATFORD-UPON-AVON

This keyboard is not just wonderful to use but beautiful and aesthetically pleasing too. To sit with it on my knee, when needed, is a boon and a facility much enjoyed. With the companion mouse my desk is clean and minimalist. They are a combination I have long waited for, and which has now been fulfilled. Strongly recommended.

Switching from Macbook to iMac was made easy thanks to this device. Unfortunately, it just underwent its first battery change and now it doesn't switch on. Apple will be getting shouted at later.

    Lovely but be warned

    • Written by from Wallasey

Lovely keyboard, but be warned... if you leave it turned off for too long (like about 6 months) and the batteries go bad you can not remove the bad batteries. Due to its compact design and solid aluminium case, if the batteries do go off and expand the keyboard is useless. Just had to throw mine away due to bad batteries. Not happy.

Like I say though, gorgeous keyboard.. if you can swallow the exorbitant asking price.

I give this keyboard two stars for the positive features mentioned by others: portability and responsiveness. However, as a touch typist, I simply hate it. I got this keyboard with my new iMac, and unlike the computer itself, this has been a complete waste of money. I cannot see the logic of giving a desktop machine a notebook keyboard; portability is not a requirement on the desktop. An extended keyboard with full page manipulation, delete and numeric functionality is more appropriate. I sorely miss these features. Worst of all are the small keys, which for the unfortunate among us with large hands is a real handicap. Typing mistakes are the order of the day, thus reducing my speed to a crawling stutter. Here is the last sentence typed without any corrections. [Here 8s the oastr sentence typed q8th97t any c9rrect89hs.] Ughh …!
Apple should go back to the drawing board, do a product recall, and replace free of charge. I shall be forced to buy a non-Apple, inelegant but functional keyboard.

Sacrificing functionality and productivity for style. Disappointing.

    • Written by from Burton-on-Trent

Ok, I got this keyboard with my new iMac. I use my Mac for music composition and production (Mainly using Logic 8 and Sibelius 6).

    So, good points first: -
    1. This keyboard feels very nice to use, typing is easier with the low profile keys and the good build quality is the kind you'd expect from apple.
    2. The wireless tech is great and saves more space than I would have imagined, since I now have no wires trailing all over the desk, leaving room for my external drives/audio interfaces etc.
    3. It looks really good too.

This is all great until you come to use it in any music software.

This is because most music software uses THE NUMPAD! Why apple have decided that they'll remove the numeric keypad I don't know. I suppose it's to save space... at the expense of functionality and productivity. Either that or it's so that they can charge you an extra 50 quid for a wireless keypad/calculator.
Perhaps I'm being a little facetious there, but the truth is if this doesn't work out its going to cost you as much again for a separate wireless numpad.

Even if you spend the extra money, the calculator/keypad still does not feature the delete and scroll keys which have been removed from the design.
On the keyboard these have been replaced by a single function key. And it doesn't help that the secondary functions of keys are not labeled on the keyboard.

In short, my advice, if you are going to use this with any music software like Logic, Guitar Pro or Sibelius, is DON'T!
Go with the USB version with the numpad and other functions or wait for a wireless version of the full sized keyboard to be released.

To be honest its good being able to move and have it in your lap but it runs out of battery way too quickly and i would rather have the old keyboard. I put batteries in the key pad and mouse about once a month.

I haven't seen this option officially listed but this keyboard works with iPhone 4, makes SMS and email much easier for those of blessed with short fat fingers. Pairs through bluetooth in the same way as a headset or remote speaker. Top!

excellent keyboard. best value for money available!

    • Written by from worcester

As i said in the title, this keyboard is excellent value for money - it's bluetooth, it's got island/chiclet style keys, very small footprint (Good riddance Num-Pad!!), battery lasts around 4 months from my use.. and it even works flawlessly with my iPhone 3GS with shortcuts like Cmd+C/V working as Copy and Paste! All for only £51.70!! I would recommend this keyboard to literally anyone! :)

    Stylish and very functional.

    • Written by from Helensburgh

Excellent little keyboard. Been looking for a nice, compact sized keyboard to use with my Macbook for a long time, as I also use my Macbook through a secondary screen, 32" tv, and needed something that would sit nicely on my lap, without being too over sized, and this does the job perfectly. I have no idea what a previous reviewer has against this product. I think it's great. And to say there is no delete button! Er, what is the button in the top right corner, below the eject button? Oh! It's the delete button!

Ok, Apple I do have to admit, you have to reduce the cost, as £56 is a bit steep for a keyboard, and for that you lose a star! I was in two minds to buy it because of that.

    Close to perfect!

    • Written by from Loughborough

Unlike what some have said regarding this product, it is VERY productive. There is a slight learning curve if you're used to standard plastic mold keyboards, but once you get the hang of it, it is fantastic! I got mine as standard with my iMac last month and it is, hands down, the best keyboard I have ever used in my life so far. The design is incredible, attractive, space saving, but most of all different. If you're new to Apple computers I doubt you will have used a keyboard like this before, especially out of a laptop.

Give yourself a month or so to get used to it, you'll need it. After that i'm sure you'll love it. However, if you're a person who doesn't take to change very well then i'd stay clear of it.

Compact, clutter-free but handicapped during wireless back-ups

    • Written by from Brighton

A great keyboard - especially if you are already used to a MacBook, and of course it makes it very easy to switch between a Macbook and Pro or iMac, since the key layouts are identical.

In addition, it's compact size frees up space on your desk, has no wire clutter (obviously) and can be used away from the screen, making it nice and flexible. Battery life is excellent, too.

BUT there is one big flaw. Like all the current crop of Apple Bluetooth devices (Magic Mouse and Magic TrackPad) it goes slightly mad during wireless backups to a Time Capsule, occasionally repeating keystrokes in particular (as if a key had got stuck).

Otherwise, I'd have rated this 10/10.

Come on Apple, sort this silly interference issue out! Please!

    Beware the critics

    • Written by from MORETON-IN-MARSH

Clearly one or two people do not like this keyboard and that is their right and privilege. I have two of them and am about to buy a third. Why?

I have been working with them for two years now and yes it took a bit of time to get used to the compact nature of the keyboard, and yes I therefore made lots of typos in the early days.

What I appreciate is the speed of response, the very good tactile feel, the fact that it does not dominate my desk and even the fact that it is very easy to keep clean. Is it worth twice as much as the wired alternative (which is just as good to use)? Well that depends on how much you like wired over wireless and the need to buy batteries or not.

In my humble opinion this is one of the most pleasant keyboards that I have used in a 30 year "keyboard career" and in the bad old "PC days" I used to spend small fortunes on keyboards.

If you want lots of pretty function buttons that you will never use but like to think might be useful some day, this is NOT the keyboard for you.
