    Perhaps has seen it's day

The remote itself is very good and is handy to control movies already loaded to screen on either your Mac or connected monitor or TV but the removal of Frontrow with Lion means there's little use for it otherwise. Your better off purchasing the TrackPad for general control and the Remote App to control iTunes and the Keynote App available for iPhones to control presentations.

Better looking, but not as good...

...as the old white remote; I can use my old one (and do, which makes the new one completely redundant) with my Apple TV at pretty much any angle anywhere in the room; this new one, despite looking and feeling nicer, has a very narrow 'field of view' - you have to have it pointed directly at the receiver...

I bought this remote mainly for my ipod with the apple ipod dock but it cant do any thing more than the standard one that comes with the dock, although it says you can browse the menus it doesn't work with the ipod classic, so don't make the mistake i did. however it looks fantastic and is unbelievably light!

I so liked the previous remote

I like the slim design of the product. Style matches with my new MB Pro 13''

What makes me to to dislike this product and to switch back to the older model is the big size and hard-to-find-with-fingers -style buttons. Buttons are slim and the edges doesn't feel in finger noticably. Older one was easy to use and I don't get the point of an extra button.

Previous remote was great, but this new one for me is unfortunately a drawback.

Looks great and operates well but is not magnetic like the old one used to be so it doesn't stick to the side of the mac. Can get lost easily (Cats & Kids!)

    3 Stars for a reason

I've had the previous generation of the Apple Remote and I prefer that to the new one. I find the new one big and no additional features have been added. Would have been good to have the iPod Nano like click wheel feature added - however I guess Apple have been so focussed on the aluminium design that they couldn't have bothered upgrading it.

If you've never owned an Apple remote - you will probably like it. If you've got an older one, don't bother upgrading as it has zero, zilch, nada additional benefits over the older one.

    Surprisingly large

The first thing I thought when I saw this remote was: it's huge! Well, not exactly huge, but about 40% longer than the previous generation and approximately the same width. Has a pleasingly solid feel and excellent quality construction, but not ideal if you just want a small lightweight clicker that's easy to slip in your pocket, hence the lower rating.
