Great Touchpad. Pity corroded batteries make you bin it

    • Written by from Hyde

Bought one of these couple of years back

    great input device.

Top quality branded batteries corroded and welded themselves to the battery compartment.
No way to get them out, outside 12 month warranty period, Tried numerous methods to get them out including drilling a hole in the batteries(Do NOT try this at home!). to release the pressure. eventually got the batteries out but before I could clean out the compartment management to crack the glass top.
Apple design team look into it please like the numerous forums requested ages ago

Wouldn't go back to a mouse.

Selected the option for a trackpad to be shipped with my iMac and am continually pleased I did. The gesture support and response is immediate, reliable and accurate. During everyday use the trackpad is faultless and even detailed procedures are dealt with efficiently.

Perhaps not the most appropriate input for serious gaming however, but thats to be expected.

    A little bit 'meh'

    • Written by from Kings Langley

When the trackpad is working, it is working wonderfully. The issue that I have had with the trackpad is the rubber feet coming out from the underside of the device. If this happens you are in trouble! The trackpad also likes to stay in the down 'clicked' position (again probably due to the feet) which is very annoying!

    Most excellent

After using it for only a few hours. I just turned off my magic mouse. Very smooth and is definitely an asset to my Imac.
I didnt think there were a device that could improve on the user interface. But the trackpad certainly did.
It's money well spend for me. And I am thinking that with the new upgrade to OSX Lion, the trackpad will become a power house in itself.

    I highly recommend it.

My brother, the swine (only joking)

    • Written by from Newbury

Having saved up and bought the beautiful Magic Mouse and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, along comes my very generous brother and gives me a Magic Trackpad for Christmas. So far I have not missed the mouse. I have used the trackpad for email, surfing and some photoshop work on the festive snaps, it is so easy. This must be the most intuitive input device ever made. So well done Apple for making such a brilliant product and thank you to my brother, a second hand Magic Mouse anyone?

There does seem to be a pattern emerging here, iPhone, iPods, iPads, iOS4.2, MacOS Lion...Bring it on!

I went to Apple Store a few times to try out the trackpad but still couldn't get use of it. A few weeks later, I decided to take the plunge, and bought one for myself as X'mas present. Best decision ever.

Took it home with me and took less than a minute to setup and 5 minutes to master it. A very clever design. Easy to use, especially for web surfing. It was a doodle.

Remember to keep your USB mouse with you though. A few days ago, I needed to boot my iMac from Installation CD, it started looking for my USB mouse.

Buy it if you have the money to spare and currently running on Snow Leopard.

    Excellent device!

I bought this at the opening of the Covent Garden shop and I love using it. I can still use the Mighty Mouse that I have, but this is very versatile and a delight to use. Also, there is no wire to constrain my cursor movement (sometimes happened with the mouse) and there is no mechanical wheel that needs cleaning.

I got to say after you get past the terrible setting up stage and putting it to your own settings.

Then yes it is a whole lot better than the mouse!!! also unlike the mouse don't get soar wrist which is a bonus and overall it works great. Mastering the speed and settings is probably the biggest hurdles but like everyone else I can see why this could make the mouse history and if the other computer systems are going to copy it in some way.

For it raises the game and makes surfing a lot easier!

I purchased the Magic Trackpad with my new iMac and have found that I use it more than the Magic Mouse as it is so simple and convenient to use - an excellent product.

Have been using it since the first week of release and it has been a dream. I still keep my magic mouse for photo editing purposes but for general use on the mac it is so easy to use.

Bought this as a birthday present to myself - at £59 it isn't cheap, but quality products never really are, are they?

I cannot believe how cool this little gadget is. It worked straight out of the box, recognised in seconds by my MacBook Pro and it is absolutely the best way to navigate around on my Mac. Sure, my built in trackpad does the the same thing, but my Magic Trackpad can be positioned anywhere I want, and it is so comfy!

My advice - get one. Get one today.

    Trackpad hurts

    • Written by from Margate

Magic Trackpad looks amazing and feels nice to touch BUT after just one day's use, my wrist really started to hurt and felt tired. The gestures needed to make the trackpad work left me with a sore wrist so I will be returning to using a mouse for sure.

Mactastic fun for half a ton.

When I first linked up the Trackpad I was a bit disappointed. I didn't seem to do anything clever and the Magic Mouse had become such a friend. But then I checked the videos built into the system preferences. This thing gives your whole hand-full-of-fingers something to do. Twist and stretch are old tricks but the three and four finger functions are brilliant. Go buy one.

Won't be ditching my Magic Mouse just yet.

    • Written by from shaftesbury

I really like this new bit of kit, It feel really natural to use and is perfect for using in bed. Its really easy to install and setup although a few more options would be nice, for example the four finger up gesture to display the desktop would be much better if I could use it to activate spaces.

It had taken me no time at all to get use to having it on my desk, With out thinking about it my hand moves from keyboard to mouse to trackpad using it to switch apps or navigate in Safari and the using it to zoom is just perfect.

Trying it to rotate some photos in Preview didn't feel right, the gesture just felt wrong and it needed to be exaggerated to work.

All in all a really cool thing!

    Fantastic mouse replacement

    • Written by from Rickmansworth

I've always liked trackpads but the ones on most laptops are too small. The new MacBooks have larger ones, and inspired by how easy it is to use those, I picked up this one for use when my MacBook Air is connected to an external monitor and keyboard. It's just great, the huge surface area makes it easy to move the mouse almost anywhere on the screen without having to constantly raise the finger and reposition. I have it set on touch to click, never have liked physically clicking a button, and it works perfectly. To right-click it is best to position your fingers a little way apart. Scrolling is just so easy and natural. I only wish someone would make something similar for my work Windows machine! (Windows doesn't support it very well.)

    Absolutely Fantastic.

I'm not quite sure what some of the people are on about below about poor battery life, I bought mine over a month ago and the battery is still at 76%. Absolutely fantastic, I rarely even turn it off and it works consistently. Always connects and the connection is never dropped. Blown away by this.

Perhaps the easiest and most comfortable thing for using the comp.
I really don't like working with computer mouses, as you have to move the device, I loved some of the trackballs, but it is difficult to find the one, which accommodates the hand the right way.
This feels totally natural, amazingly fast and actually very precise.
Not mentioning the joy of the touch - the material finish is amazing.
Connects with iMac perfect way, easy to set up.
    My best recommendation!

Good but maybe not better than a mouse overall

    • Written by from biggar

I have had this track pad for 3 months now and to be honest there are a lot of benefits in comfort but i find that i cannot do everything effectively. I find that using while using illustrator is pointless and i need to go back to my mouse. Good for general browsing and simple uses but not ideal if accuracy is your aim. It is beautifully made and designed and i am sure that most will enjoy the experience.
