    • Written by from Newcastle

I bought this unit today from Newcastle apple store, got it home and after an easy set up I now have my music from Ipad, Iphone 5 and mac blasting through my hifi.

The sound quality is really good, al in all a really good wireless solution for streaming music. Brilliant.

I extended my existing Apple Network using both Time Capsules and a Airport Express. In short everything works. Have various Apple devices and the wife has a HP laptop and they all work 100% all the time through a Virgin Media 100mb line. What else can I say, superb and does everything it says on the tin!

    Replacing BT Infinity HomeHub 5

    • Written by from North Stifford

Bought this to replace a BT Infinity HomeHub 5, which has been unreliable from day one, with WiFi just disappearing all the time, sometimes the Internet connection going away, and generally I wasn't happy with it.

It's really very easy to replace the HomeHub 5. However, it doesn't work if you just have the OpenReach faceplate in your home; you need the OpenReach modem, which plenty of people sell on eBay for a few pound (I paid £7 including postage); you plug the OpenReach modem in the wall, the AirPort Express into the modem, set it up with Airport Utility, and you are up and running in five minutes.

So far it has been running much smoother than the HomeHub, with no problems at all. The HomeHub was fine once it got going, big downloads were fine, but it sometimes struggled with the simplest websites, and the Airport Express doesn't.

    Incredible product !!!

    • Written by from London

Amazing Apple product, I was desperate to improve my Sky hub's (SR102) stability and speed. Setup with direct Ethernet connection to hub/router, created new wireless network on Airport Express, then disabled wireless on router. Devices attached include multiple phones, tablets etc as well as Airplay speaker and NAS drive. All working like a charm! Fibre optic connection restored to previously unseen speeds! The device provides amazing stability and range of the wireless signal, perfect for small flat. Still exploring its capabilities. Dual band wireless extremely useful as well if you have new devices that support 5GHz. Overall impressed.

Third one of these I have bought, first of the new shape and I have to say I prefer it to the old shape. Having the power cord is a much better option than just plugging directly into the mains, it means I can hide it up rather then is sticking out of the socket. Analogue and optical playback works really well with my sony AMP, wi fi signal in my house has never been better.

    Thanks

    Firmware update needed

    • Written by from Croydon

While the streamed sound quality was marginally superior to the previous 'in the wall' version there was a constant 'glitch'. Similar to a CD track skipping. Or a timing error
in the stream. Not a complete dropout but a random sound imperfection.
    Tried forums - no answer.

Returned via Amazon as not fit for purpose.

All other APE's (3) work fine.

    Using Netgear DGND 4000 N750 router/modem.

Bought this today to extend the wifi range upstairs in the house where I have a problem with single strength. I took the Airport Express out of the box connected into the power socket in a location midway from my Airport Extreme and where the weak signal spot is. Within 10 minutes I was connected and up and running, super duper.

Just bought this today as the WiFi on my modem was suffering. This now replaces the whole WiFi network in my house and covers everywhere. Coverage is really good and the speed is exactly what I needed.

If anyone has a flat or two floor terraced house this is perfect for your WiFi needs.

Fantastic Product it works even better when paired with apple devices.

    • Written by from watford

To all pc users stick to cheap unreliable pc world nonsense, to all MAC fans this product is for us, simply it works. If you purchase this item please make sure you have optic broadband to see the full potential if you use a simple BT type and your internet speed is 3meg or less don't bother to use it as a internet streaming device to your equipment, if its only to use for home sharing or access your iTunes then yes its great. The worlds easiest device to set up less than ten minutes to set up via Mac pc, iPod iPad iPhone and the airport utility for windows. Love this device apple do deliver all the time (except thunder bolt adapter, WHY change something that worked really well).
I install this equipment in clients homes who want a cheap reliable multi-room audio System and I have never had a complaint from clients, Altho they should incorporate video too that would be the best device in this current market. It will give all top manufactures of multi-room equipment for footballers homes a run for their money.
    Highly recommended.

To the people who leave poor feedback on this device read the online instructions or if cant be bothered to read phone apple support. After all they do have the best of the best customer support.

I bought this to replace the wireless function of my router. It did require a software update but then after configuring, which took all of five minutes. Happy days gone are the problems with wireless printer dropping out, the router trying to find a spare channel on the 2.4GHz range.
    Just solid WIFI performance.

    Excellent WIFI Router

    • Written by from Clydebank

Got one of these today to take over from the router supplied by Sky in the UK. Setup was extremely easy and quick using Airport utility on my Mac, iPhone & iPad. The connection seems more stable and functions like handoff seem to work fine now. You have the option of extending your network or as I did disable the Sky WIFI access point and use it purely as a modem letting the Airport Express handle all WIFI. The only downsides were the USB port on the back can't be used with an external drive as a quasi time capsule (you need an Airport Extreme for that). And the fact it was harder to configure the WIFI connection on my Daughters Windows 8 laptop, which wasn't too much of a surprise.

Just keeps dropping network! Would be listening to Sonos in the bedroom and it would cut out... go to the hallway where the airport express is and it would be flashing orange. A restart and then it goes green again with excellent reception. After spending far too long on the phone with Apple to try and get this sorted we are fed up with it and have to live with turning off and back on again about 3 times a week. Not great.

this is the solution if you have a talk talk router, simply plug it in connect to your own network and pair your printer to the same network. talk talk doesn't support bonjour which is apples firmware, so you won't be able to air print, but this is amazing easy and apple support are at hand if you need any assistance. Buy it highly recommended,,,,,

Airport Express - Great piece if kit

    • Written by from Farnborough

Purchased this item 6 months ago to connect to stereo system. Easy to set up even with limited knowledge. Works perfectly with BT hubs but I also purchased the Extreme base a few months ago. What a system I have now. You can also use the express to extend your network which is very useful in a large house or when out in the garden.

    Wow! How easy was that!

    • Written by from Manchester

OK, I know that Apple products and the associated systems are easy to use, I've been a Mac user since the early 1980's, but ..
I needed a new WiFi base station since a very old one suddenly stopped working a day ago (I had a workaround so that my wife could still use the internet, but she couldn't print to our networked laserjet)
I connected the existing ethernet cable and the power supply and .... by the time I had wandered round to my office with my Mac Airport Utility had launched itself and was waiting, patiently, for me to set it up! Magic, or, is this what computing should always be like!

Bought one of these to extend the range of my old style AirPort Extreme. You could just get an intermittent signal from that at far end of our house hence purchasing this product after reading some of the Q&A's. Had it working in less than 10 min from opening the box. Plugged it in at the other end of the house and then the Airport Utility on my MacBook set it up as an extension of the existing wi-fi network pretty much automatically. No wires to it other than a power supply. Brilliant, simple set up. Highly recommend for extending the range of your Apple based network.

    Poor wifi range

    • Written by from Bromsgrove

Firstly I must say the design of this Airport Express is much better than original plug in style and as ever with Apple its a nice and compact; it also comes nicely packaged. It's also pretty easy to setup, but I found the iOS limited compared to the Airport utility built-in to OSX.

I had it set up in minutes, connected to my wifi and an optical cable into my HiFi. It sounded great, the DAC in my system doing a great job of converting the higher quality music.

That's where the good stuff ends though. We quickly noticed that it kept dropping out, even though the APE was only 8m away from the router with only one stud wall between the two. Proof of this was easily shown by just walking in between the APE and our router, which invariably caused a drop-out. To put it in perspective, our Mac Mini in the lounge is 12.5m from the router on another floor and that easily streams video from the internet or provides a video stream to our other TVs around the house from Plex via the same router. Streaming from the Ethernet connected iMac was OK, but a stream from any iDevice over wifi dropped out.

Maybe ours was faulty, but having read the experience of others I don't think so. If you can connect it to your router via Ethernet then it would be fine I'm sure, as well as extending your wifi to another room.

For this reason it gets 2 stars from me.

This is a brilliant product. It was so easy to install, you take it out of the packaging, plug it in, and connect to your DSL. You pick up you iPhone, connect to the network, choose a password and there you go. And what's more, I went from a measly 8mbit output from my old wireless router to taking full advantage of my 40mbit connection, my Apple TV thanks me, and I thank Apple. Simply brilliant!
