    Power Problems

After reading of the power problems, I was a little wary.
I can now confirm that the USB does work fine with a canon 5d mk ii and canon g11 using an iPad 2 with IOS 4.3.3

It did not however work directly with my card reader, though placing a small powered hub in-between did solve that problem. Not ideal, but its a solution if you need use a card reader.

    Great piece of kit!

I bought this as part gift for myself and brother-in-law, who is a camera buff. We have used these on both iPad and iPad2 and it works perfectly fine. The image upload is quick and video upload is acceptable too.

Having read some of the negative reviews I was a bit sceptical to buy this. So here is my advice. (Mostly aimed at previous negative reviewers and intrigued customers):

When using the USB adapter, make sure that the battery of the camera source is CHARGED as fully as possible, this enables the data to be transferred quicker, if you get the message that the device does not have enough power, then charge it up, or use the sd card reader instead. Most of us that take or gadgetry seriously will always have spare battery packs charged, for whatever!

    Really disappointed

Tried using this with my Canon 550d, it's not so much the hardware thats disappointing, it's the software.... It's VERY slow, not to mention very clunky.... The UI is v sluggish when importing photos, and the import is cancelled if the device goes to sleep. Also my videos will not play when imported from my 550d. There is no overall progress indicator either. To be honest, I would say hands down this is the worst Apple product I have ever used...

The software side SERIOUSLY needs looking into guys...

    Useful, but could be better

This little piece of kit serves it's purpose largely for me but it's not perfect...

Firstly, it doesnt allow you to preview photos from the sd card full screen, you only get the same thumbnail view as you get in iPhoto, you have to import them to be able to view them full screen.

Secondly, doesn't support much in terms of power output, I thought I might be able to use a lightweight USB card reader to import photos from friends and families cameras. After all, not everyone has sd cards or can easily lay their hands on their camera cable. Plugging in a card reader results in a "this device requires too much power" message.

Lastly, doesn't import videos from my panny cameras, guess I can't complain though as the video format isn't in the supported formats list, but I think this is a typical Apleism!

This kit works fine for me. 2gb SD card reads beautifully from SD adapter. Connecting my Nikon D700 direct into the USB adapter also works. Using my USB card reader a 1gb CF card worked fine but an 8gb one exceeded the power requirement. So 4 stars not 5 but still very good bit of kit and arguably easier to carry the camera's USB cable than a card reader.

    Wasted my hard earned money

Connected my sanyo xacti camcorder to be told it needs too much power, ok I thought I will use the sd reader, told the data may be corrupted, no it isn't, works fine on my pc.
Be very careful when buying this, take your main camera with you to an apple store and get them to demonstrate it working.

    Works for me

I use a canon eos 500D and take out it's sd card. This device gets the pictures and video from the camera straight onto the iPad for viewing. Couldn't be easier, and I love it!

Card reader doesn't work - USB works

SD-card reader didn't work at all. USB-connector worked OK with Sony A-350 and Cannon Ixus 850.

Amazing that so known brand sells two adapters iand only one is working. Perhaps this is the way to get double price.

    Poor instructions look on Utube

I bought this so that I could unload vides without going though iTunes but when I put the SD card into the adapter it could not see the video the reason was,

    1) any info MUST be in a folder called DCIM
    2) the video must not have a name but should be banded in the same format as used by a camera which as IMG_0007 the same goes for images

I did call. Apple support but they were no help at all which is unusual you can also connect flash drives using the camara adapter providing it has a low current consumption I recommend that you search uTube there is a good demo of the adapter there good luck, the iPad2 is great!

    Not impressed

The kit arrived with this mornings post, I tried my Panasonic camera, no problems, tried my Nikon D80 no problems. Then tried the SD adaptor, could not get it to recognise the SD card, infact tried 4 different cards then a micro SD card from my phone in an adaptor. Tried switching iPad off and on, no luck. The strange thing is, my Mac laptop and Windows PC read the cards with no problem.

I bought this camera connection kit so I could import videos from my camera to iMovie on my iPad 2. The videos are compatible, they show up in the photos app but when I go in iMovie they don't work! I rarely give low ratings especially on apple stuff but if you pay 25 quid for a piece of plastic you expect it to work as it should! Apple... Fix this please!

    Great for assignments

Just got this thing the other day and have to say its a must!

I'm studying design and try to do as much of my assignments on the the iPad itself with pages etc. and use a lot of pictures within them. I found it very frustrating that I had to sync my iPad with my PC every time to get pictures to the iPad for use within the apps.

This little accessory solved all my problems. Its fast, small and could not be easier to use.

I love it! I don't know why i didn't get one months ago!

    iPad 2 iOS 4.3.1

Just uploaded direct from my Canon 7D, RAW files via the USB camera connection no problems at all. Seemed fairly quick as well. Great for previewing the pictures on the iPad.

Can confirm it works fine on iPad 2 (32Gb) with iOS 4.3.1.

Would be nice to have the option for Compact Flash.

    Great midi keyboard input!

Bought the kamera kit for my iPad2 to be able to connect my midi keyboard via the usb connector to control the Korg ms-20 app, the most midi keyboards will need power as the ipad can't run them alone on its own power. Worked great with my Evolution Mk -225c keyboard =)! Will not work with all midi keyboards, so check the net first.

Does not work after iOS 4.2

I bought this kit last year and it worked perfectly with all my camera SD cards, but stopped immediately after iOS4.2 was installed. I have just tried it with my new iPad 2 and it doesn't work on that either. The device is recognised in settings but does not trigger the Photos app as it should.

I strongly recommend that you try this in the shop with your own iPad and SD card before purchase. I have written to Apple about this but have had no response. I would like a refund, but don't suppose I'll get one.

    good product

I was a bit worried after reading some bad reviews but I was relieved to see that the kit worked perfectly with my Nikon D300s. No problem with either RAW or JPGs and downloading onto my mac afterwards. Great workflow.

    Camera connection

We bought a Panasonic G1 over a year ago and it produces fantastic pictures. We opted for a 16 GB SDHC card to give us capacity when travelling. The only problem was sorting through the pictures. The camera connection is the first card reader to cope with the card. The interface is quick and gives you the flexibility to chose the shots to keep. Good value for money.
