Brilliant, completely mirrors screen, ipad and iphone

I'm really pleased with this adaptor, it works brilliantly with my iPhone 4S and ipad 3, it allows you to completely clone your screen to an external display, brilliant for keynote, apps and much more, thank you

A liitle short and too pricey

I have used this cable now for some time, first with an iPad (first gen) then with my current iPad (3rd Gen). My wife has also used it with her iPad 2 and I have tried it with my iPhone 4S. Works with them all.

I use this to connect my iPad to a data projector when giving lectures, sometimes for slides using Keynote but more often when I am showing video clips. I have only two criticisms. The first is that it could do with being a little longer and more flexible and the second is that at £25 it is rather expensive.

    Great for the occasional presentation.

I bought this product for University business presentations and it has worked perfectly every time, the iPad immediately recognised what it was required to do and switched into presentation mode within keynote. The cable means little time is required to connect up the inputs and get everything running, very efficient.

    Great product, lovely design.

Waste of time and a con

This cable does not do what it says. You cannot play most iTunes purchased movies or tv shows on an external display because of some dodgy protection mechanism which is baked into the iPad not the movie. If th movie can be played using the composite cables then the protection is against the use of the vga nt the actual content.

Apple is conning us with this cable.

What a waste of time and money. I want a full refund and compensation for time wasted in purchasing and downloading the movies I have done.

Not the best thing - it doesn't seem to fit the IPhone 4 model ... And I can't play movies through it either so what is the point in it?

Mirrors iPad 3 to my TV with no problem

This cable works well and solves the main problem of mirroring your iPad to an olderTV with no HDMI connection as you need for Apple TV. The other video cables available do not provide mirroring so this is the only option.

I can show the iPad on either my computer monitor or my TV with the VGA cable (you need to get a VGA cable as well as this adapter). I use Netflix, and various TV catchup services easily.

Of course VGA has picture only. So, I use the airport express to send sound to my hifi, otherwise you could get a little audio cable and plug it into your TV.

The connection is not very tight to the iPad, but not enough to be a showstopper, just be a little gentle and it is fine.

Overall, a good choice if you have an old non HDMI TV, o roc outer monitor.

    works just about...

It does "do the job" but unfortunately it really isn't that practical as the ipad connector end will simply keep falling out soon as you move anywhere as VGA cables are not the most flexible cables and the ipad connector is not very good at staying in place so you have to constantly hold it in.

6 reasons to avoid this thing

    1) Can't show photos unless running in a slideshow. 2)Doesn't mirror what you see on screen for iPod touch4 (printed in almost invisible light grey font on white background in ad) 3) Doesn't work with Youtube app. 4) When it actually does work, it is a delayed reaction. 5) Doesn't play iTunes movies. 6) It's an obviously one but it needs to be said - outrageously overpriced. Very dissapointed.

    Very disappointed

I get a green hue on everything that is mirrored. I know that my set up is OK because I use the same leads, except for the 30-pin VGA adapter, with my Mac Book Pro and that produces a perfect picture. So the problem lies with this adapter.

    Hopeless for iPad3

Needing an adapter to present Keynote presentations for work purposes, I purchased this vga adapter on the basis that Apple indicate that it is compatible with the iPad3. It is clearly not. The shape of the iPad3 and the size of the adapter, being fatter than the charging cable, means that the adapter only just makes contact with the iPad. It is clearly not going to last very long as it only takes the tiniest movement for it to fall out. I guess Apple decided to keep the adapter the same shape and just hope for the best when they brought out the iPad3. I am disappointed and will have to return this item to Apple.

    Very poor on iPhone 4

doesnt work - will be returning
plug it into my daughters 4s - works
bit like display mirroring being disabled by apple on the appleTV
for older phones um, like the 4 that I bought 8 months ago. So OLD !
Why are they the worlds richest
company - because they use tricks like this to make
you buy a new 500 quid phone every year to ensure
features stay ! Samsumg galaxy here I come.

    Honestly Apple?!?!

First of all - I purchased this item for my iPad 2 in April of 2011 - and LOVED it!

We live overseas - but were able to let the kids watch all their movies on the TV (that we purchased on iTunes), rented movies and even caught up with episodes of our favorite shows. Then one day we rented a movie from iTunes and for some reason it would not play on the TV. I thought maybe there was a change in licensing agreement - but surely my movies that I had purchased long ago would still play. Nope - actually no movies or TV shows I have purchased on iTune will play on my TV anymore.

I mean why let us spend $50 on an adapter to watch movies when you really want us to spend $100 on the new apple TV. Honestly Apple - I know you're trying to make a buck but unfortunately your infuriating and alienating your loyal customers in the process.

To be fair it does still work for everything else - but if I had known this would happen when I purchased it I would have shelled out the extra cash for Apple TV - which I'm sure is no coincidence.

    Falls out all the time

This cable does what it is meant to, except it falls out with the slightest movement of the iPad or the cable. I have gone into Apple stores and the geniuses tell me this cable was made for iPad 1, so is not quite the right shape to fit flush with the iPad 2 (and I assume the 3 as well). Seems a simple fix..but as it is, it does not lock into the socket, thus falling out. It is a real shame as it makes it hard to use for presentations.

If it stays in, it works very well! Come on Apple, fix the cable so we can all use it as intended.

    Will play videos not movies

Forget what you rent or buy through iTunes. This thing won't even play digital content of movies that you own on a tv. Even though you get only one digital transfer (apple or Microsoft) you will be hit with a cannot play secure content if you try to use this to view on a larger tv. Low and behold if you have apple tv though you can watch that movie on the larger screen. This isn't an apple problem as much as it is a movie industry problem, but apple could be more clear on the packaging for this device. BTW the only way to watch movies you own in this matter is to illegally RIP them and then transfer the to iTunes. This will make iTunes think that it is a home video instead. Can't believe we have to resort to illegal activities with content we own the rights to.

    Really disappointed

I bought one of these cables for my iPad 3 for use in my lessons at school. It just does not work with my iPad! It works fine with my iPhone, and my colleagues ipad2 but not my ipad3.
Apple have had my iPad back and returned it saying there is nothing wrong yet the lead does not work with my ipad3 and therefore is a real let down and means I cannot use this wonderful piece of kit for teaching with.

Bought this today with a VGA cable to attach my iPad 2 to the TV. Works flawlessly, mirrors Air Video, TVCatchup, 4OD and even iPlayer as well as your springboard and apps to your big screen. Couldn't have wished for more! Can't vouch for iTunes content, but then I rarely purchase a film from that source anyway. Not sure what all the compaints are about.

Awful - used four times & it broke

Thought this would be great and save me lugging a laptop/charger around for presentations and it worked fine - for four times. Then I had to move a projector and iPad. When I went to reconnect - nothing. Totally died on me. Reconnected to other VGAs and nothing. Unit has totally died. Not the standard I expect from Apple - especially at the price.

    Totally furious

Bought this with the intention to watch two movies I rented for valentines day, just thought I'd give it a go and the tv is not supported and iTunes will not play. Btw I have a new Samsung tv. This product will be returned tomorrow.
