They kinda fixed teh second most important problem...wow great job

    • Written by from København N

While its fine and dandy that they changed one end of the cord, its the other end that is most likely to malfunction. I love my macs no doubt about it - but the magsafe adapters make me hate apple. The magsafe is such an expensive devise and at the same time the cord is so prone to braking off where it is connected to the charger. And then you cant just buy a new cord...you HAVE to buy a whole new charger...this is both very bad for the consumer and also for the environment. I really hope apple will soon realise that this way of milking costumers is not viable in the 21th century.

So I beg you Apple: please fix the real problem and make a magsafe with a detachable cord.

Not compatible with older Macbook Pros

    • Written by from City of Westminster

The MagSafe connector on this power adaptor does not fit older models of MacBook Pro. This newer connector is marginally smaller and does not fit snugly into the socket on the computer. I bought two of these at the Apple Store, Regent Street which didn't work, and I was eventually advised to buy the older part number MA938B for my January 2008 MBP. Check before you buy!

Fully compatible with older MacBook Pros

It works fine, and fits exactly the MagSafe power port on my late-2007 15-inch MacBook Pro, even though the computer was originally supplied with a "T" style MagSafe connector. Buy with confidence.

    Another poor product from Apple

    • Written by from Herne Bay

I am now on the third power supply for my MacBook Pro. The cabling and where it attaches to the connector is just not man enough for the job. Come on Apple, sort your power supplies out. 3 in less that 2 years is just not acceptable. I have a work supplied Lenovo PC which is on the same power supply and is now 5 years old - and is usually plugged in and kicked around under the desk at meetings. I also have a Sony Vaio PC with a power supply that failed after 6 years. The replacement incidentally was £19 - not the £65 rip-off that Apple charge. Very disgruntled customer with poor Apple design and rubbish reliability.

    Apple don't care!

    • Written by from St Albans

After following all the instructions as to what to do and not to do for 15 months the adaptor stopped charging the battery. Returned to Apple under 3 year care package and told fault was with the adaptor (cable stress) and we had to buy a new one...

Why have 3 year support on a £1600 MacBook Pro and then insist it's not a quality issue so we have to purchase a new one!

Totally agree with other reviewers - Apple have designed something that is not fit for purpose!

Poor quality considering the premier product

    • Written by from London

As hundreds of others have found, my MacBook Pro cable has severed, at the connection to the adapter. If so many people have this problem - why have apple not fixed this instead of bringing out rubbish small iPads?
£65 is ridiculous for a product that probably won't last me a year. Disappointed.

a new one every year and a month

    • Written by from russellville

I purchased a new power supply from apple. A year and 20 days later it has gone out. I buy apple products because they work. I am disappointed in the quality of this product and apple for not standing behind it.
I was told by apple support and the genius bar "well most manufactures have a year product warranty, I can put an order through for you for a new one it will be about 60 quid". 20 days after the year was up! come on! Advice, as soon as there is a problem bring it back because it's only going to get worse and once your a day outside of the year warranty "that will be 60 quid please"
Thanks for the product unreliability and the making of a fragile product. I am sure it will keep customers coming back again and again.
Oh and I paid 5p a min to get that advice! At the genius bar it cost me scheduling 4 days in advance and a 6 quid tube ride.

2 down in 18months how many more!

    • Written by from Northwood

Need to get a 3rd one of these in 18months, after the 1st one gave up the ghost for no reason and the 2nd one seems to be having the “strain relief” damage, now if I was on the move constantly I wouldn’t be fussed, but is sat in a static location, after paying £1000+ for a Macbook, and £60 per power supply I expected something better! Very poor design, and very disappointing, instead of being stylish make something that works!

    Far Too Fragile

    • Written by from Portsmouth

I am about to buy my 3rd adaptor; this is absolutely unacceptable. Mac is the business, it is world beating, knocking Windows into a cocked hat. But I have had to use a borrowed Laptop on my latest trip because my 2nd charger has given up. Apple must get this sorted.

    Bad product but disgraceful price

    • Written by from Bournemouth

Have had this product for a little over a year and it has broken. Looking at other reviews this seems to be a common fault, where the cable attaches to the charger comes lose. The price of £65 to purchase a new one is simply disgraceful. Of course like most people purchasing a charger I am not buying because I think it might be a nice extra, but because you can't use the mac without it, which is why the high price tag seems so unreasonable.

    1. Power pack over heats and fails
    2. Blue sparks fire with a bang between the pins on the plug when plugging it in
    3. The cable breaks
    4. It costs £65 to replace and we're going through one a year.

Terrible design and so expensive it hurts

    • Written by from Milton Keynes

Please ignore rating as I wouldn't even give one star. This is more a warning than a review.

The cord that connects to the adapter that fits to the Mac will fray and come away with ease thus leaving you powerless and your shiny expensive machine useless. Mine lasted less than 3 months and had no choice but chucking £60 at a massively over-priced and under-designed accessory. Best bet is to immediately gaffer tape the weak end to stop any twisting, and believe me it will twist without any human interaction.

Such a shame something so beautifully designed as the Macbook has to be treated to inadequate and unreliable accessories.

replacing Apple 85W MagSafe Power Adapter AGAIN

    • Written by from Paris

I find it incredible that I am about to replace this for the second time after less than a year of buying the last one, after the cable leading to the computer has broken off from the transformer in exactly the same place. This is both expensive and environmentally unsound. Please sort this out Apple.

    faulty design, should be recalled.

    • Written by from LONDON

Everyone I know who has one of these, has had to replace it, sometimes multiple.

Its clearly a faulty design, add to that expensive and propriety means that consumers are being ripped off.

Mine has failed, the plastic at the magnetic connection basically melted, because that tends to happen when things get really hot!

Its basically a £65 tax each year for using a macbook pro.

    Disintegrated Charger!

    • Written by

This goes beyond what I can believe for such a "high quality "product.
Dont get me wrong I love Mac and i have been a Mac user for over a decade.
The quality on the products seem to be diminishing.

I had My mac book pro for a lil over a year with my cover to protect keyboard, hard case for the laptop etc... I roll carefully the cord every time I finish charging and back to my back pack in the special bag!
The charger cable it is simply DISINTEGRATING...!
I have half of the cable wrapped in electrical tape and the areas without tape are starting to fall apart!

What to do???? I dont want to buy another Flawed product! what it is mac doing about this?????
