Suprised by all the negative reviews...

I have just had to replace the charger on my 2012 retina macbook so 4 odd years service from it. This is very similar to all the PC laptops Ive owned.

All I can think is that i just pitch my cable into my bag when i move it rather than neatly wrapping it up so maybe I'm applying less pressure to the joints?

4 years in my old Dell was dying on all fronts, this is the only part of my mac (other than one foot) to break in any way. Frankly im impressed..

    Genuine Apple

I am writing this review to tell the world how superficial most of the reviews for this product are (or at least seem). To be fair the only star missing here is due to its price. I got my laptop in the winter of 2012 and the charger had absolutely no problem until a few days ago. What happened? I miss-packed my wire and the insulation layer slightly opened near the power box and it has a small angle at which it does not charge the laptop at all. I ordered a spare one for when this will totally break down. It really is about how you handle it. Wrapping the wire around the power box seemed to be a pretty bad idea as the tension built up and teared the insulation (the temperature had a role in this too, but that's understandable). I really like Apple's chargers, they do not tangle and seem to be pretty sturdy too. Just remember to take care of your stuff people and they won't last for only 2 years :P mine is almost 4 years old.

Great, just wish it was cheaper

Very good design from electronics point of view, more then all required safety features - apple goes over and beyond what they are expected here.
Loads people complaining about heat and such, but its a power supply - it will get hot. Live with it. Stop whining please.
Cable wise, they got better over years - still a lot to be done I'm afraid.

It simply is not true that the connecter is too weak. It has the perfect balance and I much prefer the new magsafe 2 connecter on my mbp retina to the magsafe 1 of y old mbp...

The only reason I am buying another, is that wires became exposed a the end nearest the transformer of the power supply…

    Not weak ...

I have been monitoring the magnet and contrary to the previous review, is not weak. I have two young dogs and this feature has saved my MacBook a few times. Under normal circumstances it does not just fall out.
