    Must do better !

The drive works well but there are a number of shortcomings :
1- Slot loading means you can't use a minidisc.
2- No reading of Blu-ray Discs, let alone writing them !

I think it's about time somebody (preferably Apple) made an external, matching, tray-loading Blu-ray player/writer WITH A THUNDERBOLD CONNECTION !

    Limited Use

I recently purchased an iMac 21.5 together with the external Apple SuperDrive optical drive, as optical drives are no longer included in the iMac. It is disappointing however that this external SuperDrive does not permit multisession recording on a CD-R through Disk Utility. Although the check box for appending a recording to disk is displayed in the drop-down menu in Disk Utility, it is not selectable. I obtained two sets of instructions from the Web for creating a Burn Folder to burn data using Disk Utility and in both cases was instructed to select the ‘Append’ check box. I therefore assume that this works only with internal drives in the iMac. Single session recording is easy, but this closes any further use of the CD. Whilst I can create multisession CD-R’s easily with my PC Laptop using the Nero Express Disc Burning software that came with Windows 7, it is frustrating that Apple cannot satisfy this rather simple function.
