    Absolute Rip Off

£700 for my phone and £25 every time this product breaks. You all know the problem so I won't bore you. Just an awful design. I'm furious.

    Great quality

As I seen so many 1 star reviews, I thought I might make a mistake buying one, but after a few months of use I can see that people are "bad quality" and not the product instead... So for those who are looking to buy a longer cable then the one provided in the devices boxes, you can surely get this one as it is the same quality!

Terrible quality. Not durable in any way.

The cable jacket, that is the white rubber that goes around the wire of the cable, is simply utter rubbish. It is the thinnest of rubber, kinda like stretched chewing gum. All other wires are made of pvc, whilst Apple uses thin rubber. The cable will last, at most for 5-6 months before failing completely. The people that are saying that the cables last years, know as well as I do that this is not true. The cable is of the lowest standard of quality I have seen on any wire and for the price charged this is absolutely appalling. The wire is marketed for portable products, therefore, it should be designed in a way that is built to last. It should not be the case that a slight turn of the wire causes the rubber jacket to fray. I am starting to believe that the cables are designed in such a poor quality so that, along with Apples restrictions on third party wires, you have to buy a new one every since months. I find it simply appalling giving customers this wire with 600 to 700 products.

    seems the reviews are right

I bought this 2m cable despite reading the reviews, it becomes braided at the base of the lightning connector, it's tearing off the joint and soon will be desting for the bin.

    Design fault of cables

I am now on my 5th genuine apple lightning to USB cable, 3 one metre, 3 two metre. Every cable has split at the Lightning end, exposing the wires. So far I have spent £145 on cables! Absolutely disgusting. When are you going to design a cable that doesn't split, or cost a fortune.

I am a very careful user, so it is not as if I am a rough handler.

    Not as described

    These said genuine Apple?
When used oh iPad they charged, eventually. Try to use the iPad whilst connected impossible. All sort of strange events, typing all over the place and many other odd events with jig saw puzzles. Streaming almost impossible, all in all a total failure.
This only seemed to happen since last update.i wonder did Apple slap on a nasty file to prevent anything other than Apple genuine leads work.
Some time ago I bought a new plug for iPad which looked like the real thing, the iPad overheated and when I took it into an Apple shop the were able to identify the plug as a fake. So into the bin it has gone.i hate to admit but have had to pay the price for the real item!, it hurts but having to pay for a new pad would be worse.

    Also confused

I have had a similar experience to "confused" who wrote that after a while the cable seems to fall out with the charging plug. My one star is for the original apple 1m cables, I was on here to decide whether to buy the 2m cable. My Apple cable lasted for a shorter period than cheap generic replacement products I've had but all only seem to last for a short time. After buying several cables I thought my phone had eventually died after the most recent ios update as the battery was on red and refusing to charge. As my last cable cost £1 I was thinking I'd try another genuine Apple product. After reading the review "confused" I've now tried connecting all the cables I've had to the computer and they work just fine, but don't work with alternative charging plugs that successfully charge up other devices. It seems inexplicable, maybe the USB connections become loose in the plug but are fine on the computer, who knows. Now I know the solution isn't buying more and more charging leads I won't bother for now but will need to sort something out for holidays where I'll have to use a plug and not a computer. The funny thing is that the plug doesn't seem to be faulty as it usually works with a new cable....but only for a few months before failing, very strange.

    Confused

I've had my iPhone 5 for a couple of years now and the phone itself has never given me any problems. However, if I had a pound for every time I've had to buy a charger I'd be a very rich lady. It seems to me that after a couple of months the phone and the chargers fall out with each other. I get a message informing me the charger is not compatible or it just doesn't work at all. And yet - the strange thing is - if I connect those very same cables to my laptop - hey presto! The phone will charge. This is the same with charging docks. They work every time. So I'm wondering - maybe it's not the cable. The issue could be the relationship it has with the charging plug that causes the problems. If it isn't, how is it the very same cables charge the phone while connected to the laptop? So, I tried another charging plug. Nope. Not a chance.

So, judging from my own experience, it seems that after a few weeks/months of use, the cables - Apple or otherwise - will eventually stop charging when connected to a plug, but will continue to charge when connected to a laptop. I hope this helps and maybe Apple can look into it.

No issues with my 2m cable

I actually never had an iPhone until the 6s came out. Too many said screen cracks and cables are expensive to buy when they break.

For me I haven't had any troubles with my 2m cable and the cable that came with my iPhone. I'm buying a second cable because I left that at my aunties. My phone is charged perfectly fine, the cable hasn't even split considering I have had it 6months almost. There's been no problems with my battery life and I'm quite happy to purchase another one. I didn't even read the reviews before I purchased my first one.

It's called trial and error. For me there are no errors with this cable. Just look after it as you would brushing your teeth everyday.

1m cable perfect, 2m won't work with iPad mini 2 (retina)

I've read lots of reviews for this 2m cable, all complaining about its poor longevity. However, my issue with it, is that it just doesn't work with my iPad mini 2... When I plug my iPhone 5S into it, to charge, it's fine and stays connected and charges and works as it should (and the same as the 1 metre cable which came with the phone.

I decided that a longer cable would be really useful, partly because I don't have many power points but also so that I could use my iPad mini in bed, whilst still having it plugged in, so I bought this 2 metre cable from apple. I assumed, being an 'official'/original cable, that there would be no issues with it - and I checked the compatibility. However, when I first plugged my iPad in, it 'pinged' to notify that it had connected, but when I looked at it five minutes later, it was no longer showing as connected. This happens all the time (sometimes it doesn't even connect at first), which is really frustrating and makes what is an extortionate cable, useless!

I don't know if I just got a 'duff one' but I cannot recommend this cable based on my annoying experience! I will have to stick to my limiting 1 metre cable unless I maybe try a much cheaper, unofficial longer one?!

    Its a great cable

This is a really good cable as far as i can tell. It charges devices as well as you would expect and because its official you don't have to worry about those charging problems you sometimes get with 3rd party accessories. I use it for charging my iPad, the cable is long enough to go behind my desk and run across the top giving me lots of space to use my iPad. The build quality seems fairly good too although time will tell how long it really lasts.

Don't be discouraged by all of these low 1 star reviews, if you take a closer inspection they appear to be fake and probably made by trolls.

    Genuine review! Cable awful!

Firstly I will say that I bought my first apple product two years ago! Mini iPad 11. I love it!!!! Now to the USB cable! I am on My third cable in 2 months! They work for a while but then they no longer charge until I firstly turn my iPad off, then plug in the charger. Then I have to turn it off again before it charges! Now what's that about? I don't mishandle the cable. I wondered was it anything to do with updating the latest IOS? Maybe just coincident but it seem to stop working after these updates??? If you haven't had problems with this cable you are very lucky!!!!

    Great Cable!!

After seeing so many 1 star reviews I thought I need to write a 5 star review.
I brought my 2m charger lead 2 years ago and still working now, it goes everywhere with me, around the world, to work and back, in my car and still works perfectly, looks as good as new.
Will 100% buy a new one when the time comes to change.

    Pricy but they last

I always use genuine Apple cables now. I have had a few non-Apple ones that just didn't last.

I've had this cable for a couple of years and it works perfectly. I use it every day at work and it is showing no signs of wear.

    I'm buying another today ...

    Rip off

I went through 3 cables in a short time. I have had this last one 6 months now because I taped duct tape to the solid bits which go into the plug and iPad right down on to the cable for a few centimetres preventing the cable from bending.

    Mine has been absolutely fine.

I was worried about wasting money on paying for the name but, having bought a 1.2 m Belkin cable which was cheap and a two metre Apple cable which was expensive, I am now in the position that my Belkin cable has stopped working and the Apple one is fine. I am now about to buy another Apple one. I think you get what you pay for.
