    Fabulous buy

I bought an Airport Time Capsule 2 TB after a nightmare with Western Digital hard drive ( avoid at all cost as they are bad news ) so I did what I should have done in the first place is to bug an Apple product, they are reliable very well made and designed easy set up 5 minutes and that's it I do recommend don't buy anything else as the cheapest is always the most expensive and the best one( Apple ) but they are expensive but you buy quality

    Magic

This thing is brilliant. I have a Sky Hub which I thought was doing well until i met this baby. We live in an Apple household, 2 iPads, 3 iPhone, a Mac and an Apple TV3 and 4 so I thought it made sense to have an Apple Network to use them with. Also given the fact that we have 3.80 download speed on rural boardband anything is worth a try. So plugged into the Sky Hub, popped up Airport Utility on the Mac and within minutes it had run the set up itself and bang it was done. The longest part of the whole process was reseting the Belkin Extenders I have but that was not its fault. So does it make a difference to my board band speeds, well yes and no and here's where the magic is. I still get 3.80 download speed but before say when I was downloading a large file, my wife was streaming on her iPad and the kids where watching Netflix on the Apple Tv, something had to give - usually me. It just couldn't cope. However with this one week later we can pretty much do all our own thing at the same time without noticing any slow down - amazing. The download is still 3.80. In terms of Back-Up = be warned the first one takes forever and was the only time the Network slowed down, the first night therefore can be a bit depressing but hold your guns, after that you'll start to notice the difference. Further back-up's have been small and quick and not even noticed. So given all that I have began to replace the Belkin Extenders with the Airport Express - first one set up today and making the whole thing run even better! It is in the office with my Mac and boy do they love with other. Last word - worth every penny, no more Dad running around turning of devices to cope with bad boardband - fiddling with Sky Hub settings to change channels etc etc etc. Goodbye to all that!

Solid wifi and reliable backups. I love it!

Another beautifully designed Apple product, that works.
I recently bought a wireless and cloud external drive, thinking it was exactly what I needed. On paper, sure. In real life, it was a pain from the start. After a couple of weeks of hassle, I returned it, and caved in - paid the extra and bought the Time Capsule. I decided I wanted it to handle all the wireless in my house - because it could, and because I'd experienced channel congestion and occasional flaky connections with my old router - so I switched my Virgin Media Superb 2 over to Modem Only mode. The Time Capsule connected straight away, my ethernet connected devices connected to it and my wireless devices didn't bat an eyelid. My Mac found the disk straight away for the Time Machine backup first time too. Brilliant. I also created a guest network for visitors.
I did a speed test about 15 minutes after I'd connected, and found the wifi speeds were well short of what they should be. I did the test on a Mac Air, iPad and iPhone and got the same poor results. Gutted. I ran out of time to try and find out what the problem was and went to bed, very disappointed. I tried another speed test in the morning, and got 6 mbps OVER my 150 mbps allocation. Woo hoo! I tested the other devices, and all were running at full download speed too, and have done ever since. So, my message to you all is, don't do your speed checks when a Time Machine backup is in progress! Especially the first one (which does take hours - leave it to do overnight) because you'll think there's something wrong when there isn't.
The wifi from the TC is solid, it hasn't dropped out once so I trust it to just be left to do its thing now. The setup was a doddle, just make sure your ethernet cable connected to your modem is in the very bottom slot when you start it up. Also, make sure you know how to log into your modem to change any settings you might need to (such as switching to Modem Mode). And read the setup instructions - they are downloadable from the Apple Support site - plus there's the leaflet that comes in the box.
All in all, I'm really glad that I got the Time Capsule and I like that I now have a more secure, reliable and fast wifi network in my house. Oh, and I love that my Mac is always backed up without me even noticing it's happening (unless I'm doing a speed test, obvs!) as well. Buy it. Honestly, I know it's way expensive, but it really does just work. Life's too short to spend fixing wifi issues. Yeah and it looks cool too.

    Perfection

Unlike some reviewers, I found the box straightforward enough to open, and the kit inside did what I expected, flawlessly, rapidly, even guiding me through replacing an existing TC. Great wireless range and strength. Very impressive piece of kit.

    Excellent!

I'm not really one for writing reviews, but I felt like I had to, having read all of the negative reviews below (they nearly put me off buying it).

This bit of kit literally set itself up, one draw back was that I had to take it out of the box and plug it in all by myself (come on apple, surely there's an app for that?). It has made a complete mockery of my old super hub. I get wifi over my entire house now and I actually get 100 mbps over wireless. My super hub barely gave me 60 mbps and the kitchen and bathroom were dead zones. It's worth mentioning that all of my internal walls are brick, no stud walls, which is why my super hub used to struggle. This doesn't bat an eyelid.

My airplay speaker system now works flawlessly, no annoying pauses like before.

The hard drive is a little slow at writing large files (like your first backup) but this is easily remedied by deselecting the larger files that do not really need backing up, such as movies and TV shows.

I've only had it just over a week, so can not comment on the life expectancy, but I can't see there being a problem (based on how it has worked so far).

    So far, thoroughly impressed!

    superb product

I bought one of these about a month ago on powering it up it downloaded the latest firmware, I tailored it to replace my ISP router's wifi as it is useless. At first it did not give a great coverage, until `i turned off the wifi on the ISP's router which then the wifi service improved 100%. I also made the wifi SSID very simple with a more powerful password since then the WIFI and TC has been powered up all the time with backups from both my macs to it no problem. `i have since removed the back up of my desktop to a separate USB connected hard drive, because for a desktop this is a better option. A second hard drive is used to keep all my movies as a hard drive, I am able to stream 3d from my Air to TV using this as a source, with no buffering problems, first class product, People forget that WIFI is not a guaranteed speed all the time, but I am delighted.

    More Apple magic!

Arrived next day and took all of 20 minutes to install as the new network hub with the Airport Extreme and Express units daisy-chained.
Did a full Time Machine backup in 8 hours - silently! (my previous ext hard-drive was very noisy). A great pice of kit.

    Excellent range & speed

I thought about upgrading my VirginMedia advanced wifi hub (100MB+ line) to this, when I finally did, I wish I had done it earlier! The range & speed on this device for my MacBook Retina, MacBook Air, iPads etc is amazing.

    Airport Time capsule 2Tb

Another excellent Apple product, I needed a seamless back up solution and fix to months of wireless woes. 10 minutes after unpacking it I was up and running and performing my initial back up from my new iMac.
It also solved my wi fi problems, neighbouring wi fi routers were making air space very limited and I frequently had annoying drop out with problems reconnecting, now I have a 5 Ghz multi channel connection which is very quick and very reliable.
The Time Capsule looks uber cool and runs silently, just as well as it is in the bedroom just a few feet away from my head on the bed side units!
An excellent and very worthwhile purchase!

Out of the box & working in 5mins

We have a Virgin Media Superhub. We set this to Modem mode and connected the first AirPort Time Capsule this was quick & simple with the the instructions on-screen via the AirPort utility of the iMac. Once the set-up was complete my daughter set-up her AirPort Time Capsule via her Macbook Pro bridging from the first Airport Time Capsule giving it another name & pass key / word. Again this was simple and the whole process took around 15-20min.

No other company makes this process so simple it just works.

ANOTHER BRILLIANT BIT OF KIT !

My TC has been running faultlessly for about two months now; it is very cool and quiet. As with previous Airport devices it was quick and simple to set up and works well with a host of wired and wireless devices all over the house. I am very pleased indeed with this product which I use in conjunction with a Vigor 120 Ethernet modem.

Is the coldest running time capsule yet

Yes pleased with this model, easy to setup and runs quiet and cool compared to old models. Interested to find out if this generation uses less energy. Highly recommended.

    A real improvement

I had the older flat version of time capsule and this is a definite improvement. Its a breeze to set up and produces a very fast WiFi connection. The automatic back up facility works really well - I found it was a bit clunky in the older model and didn't always work - but then Apple do an excellent job of continuous improvement and the new time capsule is no exception. (and I don't work for them :-) ).

    Just as expected

I've used my previous time capsule all day every day for the past 5 years; never a blip! Sadly it was a 500 Mb version and it filled. Having just replaced it with the 2 Tb capsule I can report that everything works perfectly, straight from the box. Better, faster communication and four times the storage. It runs cooler, is silent and set up couldn't have been easier.

    For a simpler life

I've finally been persuaded to go wireless for backup of my content. This piece of kit worked straight out of the box. It took 20 hours to back up my iMac straight via ethernet, and then I relocated it to use its connectivity to hook up other remotely located gear (TV, XBox and Apple TV) to the AirPort which is connected via ethernet to my BT Hub 4 using a TP Link powerline adapter. It's really handy to have a second wifi network and means my iPad works consistently in my bedroom, for example. Internal walls really are pesky for wifi due to inconsistent connection, whereas suspended wooden floors aren't. So I am pleased with it. I guess one day server farm capacity will mean you'll be able to back up your back up as well via the cloud at a reasonable data storage rate. In the meantime the chance of both Mac and Capsule hard drive failing at the same time should be statistically very unlikely. So all in all, for once the rule that every piece of technology designed to make life simpler actually introduces new complexity is not true, so the time capsule gets five stars for doing the job it says it'll do.
