    Not so great as a wireless router!

    I have bought the AirPort Time Capsule 6 months ago and don't get me wrong it's a great solution to back up your mac but it has really weak wifi network. I have tried so many things (changing channels, moving it to another location) but it constantly fails to deliver. It doesn't really matter if it works on 2.4Ghz or 5GHz. Before I was using Sky Router and Talktalk Router and both of them was much more powerful in delivering wireless internet. Sometimes I can't get a wifi while in another room or bedroom. Standing outside just by my lounge windows where AirPort Time Capsule is located and neither iPhone or iPad can't find the wifi. Big fail for Apple.

    This packaging is an embarassment

    Isn't apple a company that prides itself on the presentation of a product? There is way too long of a track record reporting issues with the packaging. Unfortunately I didn't see them before I opened mine. I've converted basically 100% to apple products in the last 2 years and have been generally happy with quality.

    This story sounds like a joke but I promise it's not.

    I, like the hoards of others, opened the product 'wrong'. Due to the resistance created by designing the base of the package and the cover in such a way that little to no air can escape as the two pieces are being separated, it takes an extra bit of force remove the cover. Certainly not a lot but enough that I realized (after the fact) that I had put in a little more effort than I would have otherwise had to.

    Combine that with the fact that the recess at the base of the packaging is WAY too shallow. I measured it as an inch. The thing is holding a $300 brick with a hard drive and sharper edges. What moron thought it was a good idea to design the packaging for that piece of equipment like that? Please for the love of all that is holy make sure that guy does not ever get a chance to design a bridge. "Yeah that holes plenty deep enough, just throw the beam in. Foundations? Who needs em!"

    Anyways I opened the package and needless to say the thing tipped right off the base. My unfortunate split second reaction to seeing my brand new $300 toy brick plummeting towards a tile floor was to stick my foot out. In a 'kicking' motion if you will. Like when one is juggling a soccer ball and it takes a bad bounce. You know it's going to the ground but you make a flailing effort to revive it anyways. Maybe 1 in 5 times you make sufficient contact and the ball pops back up. I made sufficient contact alright, but my iBrick did not pop back up. I struck it flush with my bare foot, shin. It was honestly the most painful experience I've had in the last several years. It is a distinct possibility I have multiple broken bones.

    Other than that, I'm loving my time capsule so far!

    Disappointed

    Have to say that I'm more than a little disappointed with Apple. The expected "plug it in and it just works" was just as expected . . . at first.

    My first Time Capsule was plagued with errors and I kept having trouble connecting to the drive until, after a few months, it just died.

    I'll not go into the annoyance I had trying to get someone at the Apple Store to just replace the darn thing, or at least send it off for repair - Apple's insistence in booking an appointment (next week) with someone at at the Genius Bar was just going to be a waste of my time. I had to insist on seeing the manager to just get a retail replacement i.e. my consumer rights regarding faulty products. (they wouldn't send it for repair).

    So, had the new one for a few months and, whilst time machine does indeed seem to be backing up both of our laptops, I still have great trouble being able to connect to the drive through Finder. Surely this should "just work" like most other Apple product, but it doesn't. I've tried all of the FAQs and Forums without results - therefore I remain disappointed.

    Ok - but glacially slow

    Installation and setup is a piece of cake.
    However, running backups are glacially and annoyingly slow. Wish I bought a device I can simply plug directly into the Mac and backup from there.
    Also, the device hangs up regularly and needs to be restarted.
    Maybe mine is just a Monday's machine, but wouldn't buy it again.
