iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant

Welcome

Are you having trouble making or receiving a call? Can't send or receive a text message? Unable to access the Internet and aren't near an accessible Wi-Fi network? Try the following solutions.

Check signal

  • Check the top left corner of iPhone's display to make sure you have a strong signal.
  • Make sure Airplane Mode is turned off.
  • If you're not using Wi-Fi and you're trying to access the Internet, make sure you have a cellular data connection by checking next to the carrier name at the top of the screen for one of the following indicators:
    3G connection
    EDGE connection
    GPRS connection

Note: iPhone will display the Wi-Fi or one of the cellular data network icons to the right of your carrier name if it has an active network connection. If you are using Wi-Fi, you won't see a cellular data network indicator unless you turn off Wi-Fi. To turn off Wi-Fi, tap Settings > Wi-Fi

New Location

If you don't have a strong signal or don't see a cellular data network indicator, try moving to a different location. Please note:

  • If you are indoors, trying going outdoors or moving closer to a window.
  • Check with your carrier to verify that you have wireless coverage in your area.

Toggle Airplane Mode

Turn on Airplane Mode (Settings -> Airplane mode), wait 15 seconds, and then turn Airplane Mode off again. This resets all of iPhone's wireless connections.

If you see a Wi-Fi  icon to the right of the airplane icon, it means you have enabled Wi-Fi while airplane mode is on. To disable, toggle airplane mode again.

Restart

Try restarting iPhone. To turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone on, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.

Does iPhone appear frozen or stuck? Try pressing and holding the Home button for 6 seconds to close a frozen application. Then try restarting iPhone again.
