Twelve South BookBook Case for iPhone 6/6s

  • Overview

Twelve South's vintage leather BookBook for iPhone 6/6s beautifully combines a wallet case, hands-free stand, and removable shell. Convenient pockets store your ID, cards, and cash. And BookBook also folds into a display stand for hands-free FaceTime chats and watching videos. Plus it gives you the ease of a removable shell to protect your iPhone 6 in or out of BookBook.

    Hand-distressed, genuine leather wallet

The wallet portion of this high-quality leather case has five pockets, including slots to hold your bank cards. There’s a handy window pocket that lets you flash your ID when needed. You also have a full-size pocket for cash, receipts, or magnetic security cards.

    A thin shell case, too

Inside BookBook, your iPhone snaps into a slim, soft-touch shell. With a quick slide to the left, the shell lifts completely out — so you can leave your wallet in a locker and take your phone to the treadmill. Carry your iPhone wallet combo when you need it, or just your shell-covered iPhone when you don’t.

    Built-in hands-free viewing stand

BookBook functions as a viewing stand, as well as a case, so you can use it for hands-free FaceTime calls, watching HD movies, or sharing videos with friends. You can even prop up the BookBook stand and use the self timer in iOS 8 to take group photos.

Nowhere near the quality of the old bookbooks made for iPhone 4 and 5.

This year, as you know, the I've been a loyal user of bookbook now for a couple of generations of iPhones. Every year, I get a new iPhone and a new bookbook. This year, as you know, the iPhone came out before the bookbook was ready. I ordered the day before release, on 12/11/14. I received a new 6+ bookbook and it looked good, but now three months later, it's falling apart. All the vinyl edges have worn away to expose the cardboard inside. And where the cards go, is way different than the previous bookbooks. It's thinner and cheaper feeling. All the threads constantly fray, and the card constantly fall out of the slots when you turn the bookbook upside down. With my previous bookbooks, I seemed to be able to last a year until I got my new iPhone, and even then, while the leather was aged and scuffed, the bookbook construction felt rugged and could still be used, but the latest one is not the same level of quality that you guys used to have. Just wanted to pass this on. I feel that I will not be purchasing a new bookbook for my iPhone 6+S this fall, and I will probably be going back to a traditional phone case and wallet fairly soon as the bookbook that I have now looks like it's about to fall apart as well as it's a miracle that I haven't dropped my atm/credit cards yet.

The case frequently flips the mute switch on the side of the phone to the vibrate only position while the phone is in my pocket. Not a huge problem, but a problem none the less. The protective layer of silicone on the removable shell has already worn off on the edges. Again not a huge problem, just speaks to the cheap construction of the case/wallet. The case feels thinner and more loose than the last iteration, particularly in the card slot/ID window section. While the removable shell is a nice idea, it can be quite difficult to remove completely at times as the set up is much more suited for the stand feature. The overall fit and finish of the case leaves something to be desired (i.e. loose stitching in areas and bunched up suede around the plastic holders for the shell. I had the bookbook for iPhone 5s and it was great...for about a year. The problem with that model was that the inside leather was not all one piece and so it came apart all around the phone holder after about a year of steady use. Twelve South eliminated that problem by creating a removable shell for the phone and keeping the inside suede all one piece. While I don't see longevity being a factor with this case, there are some areas that could certainly be improved upon. But I guess they have to save money wherever they can. I'll think twice about buying another one.

It's also very convenient to be able to remove the thin rubber shell from the outer leather case. I love the appearance and the way it feels in my hand. I did notice that the decorative spine of the "book" does not seem to be real leather (as the rest of the jacket is), I would guess it's some sort of "PU leather", but you have to examine it very closely to tell the difference. Overall, I'm very happy with my new case.

I know that the book wears to give it charm - I enjoyed that in the previous version - but this one isn't wearing so much as breaking. The plastic piece that holds the actual phone is breaking on the corner. I don't think it will hold much longer. That piece detaches from the wallet portion of the case fairly often. Recently, (about 6 months in to owning it) the wallet portion has stopped actually holding cards. I can't use it as a wallet if my credit card is going to keep falling out. Shame on Twelve South for putting out such a sub-par product. I will be buying a different wallet case soon. Please don't make my mistake - avoid this case.
