They are just running on different operating systems (IOS for iPhone and OS X for Macs). When an app is developed, it is designed specifically to fit one of the operating systems. For example, if an app is made for IOS 7 it is made to fit the screen size and average specifications of an iPhone 5, not a Mac.

The iMac runs OSX, a desktop operating system, the iPhone runs iOS a different operating system designed for use on mobile devices.
