    Great Product That Needs Tweek

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I was going to have to return this. It just didn't work. Then I checked the reviews here and the reviewer "Cardiff" said that he fixed his by bending the solo prong a little. That made mine work too! Bless Cardiff!

Hopefully it will keep working and I'll never have to worry about buying batteries again. I love the Magic Mouse but it eats batteries far too fast.

Setting the record straight for those that has had bad experiences

    • Written by from CALGARY

    Some past reviews complained of:
    1. Charger not working properly
    2. Battery remaining indicator doesn't report properly in OSX
    3. Battery fit and finish is awful and inconsistent
    4. Charger base dies an early life
    5. Battery falls out
    6. Mouse bluetooth connectivity randomly fails

Of these 6 major complains I can say this:
    1. Charger MUST not be placed on the aluminum base of the iMac or a metallic surface. The system works by using inductive charging. Metallic surfaces will completely render the charger useless. Place it on a wood desk and it will charge the battery fine.
    2. Normal alkaline/lithium AA batteries operate at 1.5 volts/battery. NiMH and Ni-Cad rechargeables are designed to work at 1.2 volts / battery. This 0.3 volts difference in the cells explains why the battery % indicator in OSX doesn't report 100% charge b/c of this voltage difference. Apple SHOULD allow users of OSX to select the type of battery that is installed in their input devices so that the battery % indicator is more representative of what is the actual life instead of basing on the assumption that battery cell voltage is always 1.5 volts / battery when in a 100% state.
    3. Battery fit and finish in fact is excellent on the unit I purchased. The key is to pay close attention to the install. Place the upper portion of the battery into the mouse first and tip the battery into the mouse and engage the locking tab. Press firmly down on the battery further until you can manually move the locking tab into the fully engaged position. Once locked the slight outward pressure of the battery pack will keep it locked in place. I've banged my mouse around deliberately on my desk to make the battery pack disengage and fall out. So far so good.
    4. Can't comment on the charger's life expectancy but it does carry a 1 year warranty through Mobee Technologies and if you purchase it on a credit card then your warranty is doubled to 2 years anyways.
    5. Please refer to point 3 and FULLY engage the lock tab on the bottom of the mouse. Don't just press fit it in, press firmly and LOCK the tab in place so it fully catches the edge of the lock tab cutout.
    6. Can't say that in the few days I've used the mouse that I've lost connectivity. Some reports have said that the connectivity loss is a direct result of the battery falling out. If point 3 is followed then there should be no reason why the mouse would stop communicating with your computer.

Overall after paying very close attention to the fine details of the charger and battery pack I give it a 4 star rating. Pay particular attention as to how the battery should be installed (tuck upper portion of the battery into mouse FIRST and then firmly lock the tab on the bottom. Last but not least don't place the charger on ANY metal surfaces (esp the foot of the iMac base).

    Recommendations to improve this product:
    1. Include detailed install instructions so that others can't inadvertently try to drop the battery pack into the mouse without first tucking in the upper edge. Common sense isn't so common for some users.
    2. Not related to product - Apple OSX needs to revise their battery reporting schema to allow users to tell OSX what type of batteries their using.
    3. Price - This unit isn't cheap. Consider that you can buy the equivalent eneloop batteries for HALF the cost to accomplish the same result is a tough sell for some.
    4. HAVE a CLEARLY VISIBLE warning to product users to NOT place the charger on metallic surfaces. It simply doesn't work when sitting on metal or the base of the iMac.
    5. Include a passthrough USB cable so that it can still be plugged into a computer BUT allow another USB device cable to be plugged into it.
    6. Speed up charging times to about 1 hour vs. 6.

More style and price then substance

    • Written by from Markham

My initial impression of the product was resoundingly positive. Several reviews talked of effortless and fast charging, and how great the item was in style and function. And in fact, that's what i thought when I first purchased for $50. But the honeymoon soon wore off. Here are the shortcomings after the first week -

    - Unit can not plug into wall, only USB. However, when I would like to be charging my mouse is when my iMac is asleep. But when my iMac is asleep, power ia cut to USB -- a catch-22. I found I was constantly then having to place it on the charger for short periods, interrupting my work flow. if i didn't do this, the mouse would get erratic then stop working.

    - The device, while seemingly simple to use, needs a rethink. For instance, offer 2 charging packs instead of one, and make it so you can swap out a charge pack from a wall charger. This does 2 things... eliminates any charging downtime, and leaves a USB port free that the current "soap dish" steals. Imagine if you were always having to set your cordless drill down on a pad a couple times per week, exactly when you needed to be working. It's just dumb.

    - Lastly is the price. For all the fancy inductive charging (which didn't charge very fast for me), I could buy a great wall charger and 3 sets of AA batteries, and even grab a small meal and coffee. by having 3 sets of batteries, you can now get in on the recharge game for not only the mouse, but the wireless keyboard as well -- something the Mobee can't help you with.

I'll be returning the two purchased.

    Brilliant - initial install fiddely

    • Written by from Cardiff

this product has a real good apple like quality to it the docking station looks great and the battery pack has the same finish as the original battery housing. However this product has its flaws. It did not work for me straight out of the tin. To note my magic mouse was also brand new. The problem lies with the battery it charges fine when on the dock but the connectors don't match up to the mouse so no power to the mouse or green light. I solved this issue by bending the solo connector down a bit, it points up. that simple put battery back in and it worked.

    Works brilliantly...

    • Written by from Highlands Ranch

... well almost. There is one little niggle where OSX doesn't update the battery status for the mouse unless you pull the battery at first. The work arounds to that is to either quickly pull the battery and re-insert to get the status to update, or ignore the status and just know that your mouse is 100% when the light on the charger is solid green. It is a minor annoyance, but does little to take away from how nice this product is. I was tired of replacing the batteries in my mouse on a weekly basis. I tried the Durecells, I tried the Lithium, I tried various rechargeable batteries including Apples own, and Eneloops, I was still stuck in a cycle of replacing with newly charged batteries weekly. I like the convenience of simply placing it on the pad periodically and letting the mouse charge.

    Too bad..

    • Written by from Montreal

I would have loved it if it would have worked in the first place!

I ordered the charger and the magic mouse together with my new macbook pro (lion). The mouse alone was working perfectly but as soon as I tried to install the charger's battery in it, nothing was going right.
The battery didin't fit and it took me tools to remove it from the mouse.
The charger's base would stay in "charging status" (red light) for ever and never changed for "fully changed" (green light)
The macbook pro never recognized the mouse after I installed the charger, and even after I'd put back some normal batteries(!)

I had to go to the Genius Bar so they would test it with me, agree that the charger was not working well, tell me to send it back and get my money back.
Luckely, the Apple Store gave me a new mouse to replace the one that had been broken by the charger.. And sending back the product, thus getting my money back, was a piece of cake.

Overall, there are some good and bad comments about the charger so I guess the product is not exactly 100% compatible or complete.. I just hope there's gonna be other brands or versions of this one 'cause I love the idea of a charger for my magic mouse!

    AWESOME Battery Pack/Recharging Unit

    • Written by from Zion

I love being able to place my magic mouse on this awesome charger and I know I will have a fully charged mouse by the next time I use it. Plus if you forget or are not able to charge your mouse for a couple of days, NO WORRIES!! The charge lasts a long time as well. Beats having to buy loads of batteries and you don't have to worry about having to change the batteries like disposable batteries. Just place on the magic charger!! No fumbling with removing the back and knocking the batteries out and putting it all back together!! I definite MUST buy for magic mouse owners!! :-)

    Perfect! Love it!

    • Written by from Angola

The Mobee Magic Charger absolutely awesome. I read so many bad reviews that I almost didn't buy it.

One complaint about the charger is that the new battery pack didn't fit in the mouse. This is ridiculous. It fits perfectly. There is no problem whatsoever. Some reviews even said that the pack would fall out of the mouse occasionally. I lift and move and carry my mouse all the time and that has never happened. I even carry it in my pocket with no trouble.

I also read complaints about bad battery life. I've been using this mouse for almost two weeks and I'm still at 48% battery life! It's way better than I thought it would be.

I don't know what those bad reviewers are doing with their mouse, but if you use it as directed, this charger and pack are the perfect companion.

    Excellent product, very happy!

Worked well when it worked. (give it 5 stars for that) Mine died after 4 months. No customer service number to reach Mobee. Have to send in "work order ticket" via email. Two days later got a response. If I had known what a hassle it would be I would have saved my money for regular batteries.

Great Product- Actually a 4 ½ star Rating

    • Written by from Weston

I read many reviews before buying this product. A lot of the criticisms were centered around the fact that the battery pack fits oddly into the mouse, or that there was no USB wall plug included. Both of these cases are true, but not enough to demote the product itself.
When it comes to the fitting into the mouse, I had a little bit of trouble at first, and since it wasn’t 100% properly fitted, the battery charge sensed by the mouse was not as effective. It’s hard to explain the right way to fit the battery except you have to cram it in and make sure it’s 100% flush and snapped into place. Once I did that, I’ve had a good lengthy battery life for almost a week (only charged it once when I got it, and 5 days later I’m at 44% without ever turning the mouse off).
As for the USB plug, that was a bummer, but if you have a Mac, chances are you have iOS/iPod products and more than one spare charger (don’t lie, you know you do). If not, I’ve seen department stores and pharmacies selling very similar USB wall chargers for a lot less than the $30 the Apple one costs. $10 later and that problem is solved too.
The payoff from having a rechargeable mouse in such an attractive and practical product is much greater than the only 2 minor inconveniences it has.

A godsend considering how difficult I find Apple's battery housing seems to be to replace the batteries...

The only small issue I've had with my mobee is sometimes the battery level is out of date - not a problem if you use the charger regularly & assume it may be fixed at some point.

I got this as a gift a few days ago. It's not a terrible product, at least it works... kinda. But, for the price it's not worth it. Go on over and get the Apple Batteries, they're only $30, there's more batteries, and you can use them for other things. This thing is just basically a fancy piece of technology... that isn't as good as some other options.

battery doesn't fit into the MM. Tried every way possible, and I get it to just barely fit in and stay. However, it doesn't fit well, and the bottom of the battery sits below the rails on the MM. So the paint coating of battery has worn off.

I've gone back to just using rechargeable batteries.

    Setup a concern

    • Written by from Manteno

Unfortunately the setup was not successful. I removed the AA batteries & replaced them with the Mobee Magic Charger batteries, but it didn't exactly fit right. Just like a previous review mentioned, the Mobee lid wasn't flush with the bottom of the Magic Mouse like the original lid is. The Magic Mouse would not power up. I charged it up but because of the mis-match fitting, I don't think the leads aligned right. I used eyeglass screwdrivers to try to fit this in the proper way but I wound up breaking the metal lead. A good concept but the kinks need to be worked out. Can you say 'quality control?'

Well I bought on of the first one of these at my local Apple Store. All the Genius's where even looking at the new product. I like it but I would love it for about $10 less dollars. LOL.
