    Very disappointing

    • Written by from Seattle

It took an hour to assemble because of multiple parts and tiny, difficult to manipulate screws. When assembly is complete it is unstable, the phone cannot be removed with one hand; and the entire gadget is light and flimsy. It does not sit well on a flat surface. I am returning it, and recommend others do not buy it. I would not use it for a 20 dollar flip phone, let alone an expensive i6

    Waste of money

    • Written by from Cooper City

Recently ordered this product and was disappointed. Set-up required some dexterity - construction was not very sturdy and the worst part was it doesn't work well with the 2 meter lightning cord (doesn't fit well in the bottom groove). I'd like to send it back. It feels like a kid's toy.

    Going Back!

    • Written by from Edmond

First of all, this has to be assembled. It isn't hard to do but it isn't easy either! I have had this for about 2 weeks and this morning the end of the charger snapped off and stayed in my phone. I don't like the way the product is engineered. Thankfully I was able to get the end of the cable out of my iPhone 6 plus but beware. If you get this, you need to pull your phone straight out of the dock and not wiggle it. Like I said, just not engineered well in my opinion. I am on the lookout for an alternative.

I have an iphone 6 and an ipad mini2. Neither of which seem very stable while plugged. It is wobbly at best and the ipad wont charge 90% of the time. This is going back to the store.

Better buy some tools first or buy a different dock

    • Written by from Cave Creek

The two vertical columns should be erected parallel. But unfortunately they are not because their downsides are differently angled - severe mistake in manufacturing.

This means not only you do not have proper support but it looks ugly. I used a metal file to rasp some aluminum off the bottom. Now it looks even uglier but at least it gives support.

They claim that their product works with "...practically any case on the market...especially cases with recessed connections that no other dock can fit..."

Well it does not fit my Apple-Store bought case.

The reason? You must use different plastic clips for different phones/cases and the manufacturer is too cheap to include several of them. They include size 0, 2 and 5 and I would need 3 or 4.

So I used an electric drill to adjust the clip to my requirements. Without the drilling the iPhone would not even connect electrically and the stand would be completely senseless.

    Buy something else!

    Returned

The angles of the 2 bars were unequal.
    Jagged rough cut on end.
Nice design but poor quality manufacture.
I have many Twelve South products.
    All are high quality.
Very surprised Twelve South let this get by.

    Nice idea, bad quality control

    • Written by from Garner

Liked the stand overall and it's configuration options. However, one of the screws was so badly deformed that it could not be used, and the angle of the back piece did not match the angle of the front piece making it very difficult to try and adjust. I contacted customer support at Twelve South (with photos) and they wanted me to send the defective stand in (at my cost) and they would send me a replacement within a couple weeks. At no time did they offer to send me some replacement screws or parts. I decided to return the stand and find another option.

    BUYER BEWARE

    • Written by from Saint louis

This dock is shipped to you in several pieces. You must assemble the dock with screws and wrenches before you can use it. Furthermore, the dock is completely useless if you don't have your own cable which is not obvious from the description. Not just that, without the cable you can't use the dock because the end of the cable pushes through the dock to support the device. The concept is ok and the design is ok but the execution is completely flawed. For the combined price of the dock and cable, I think I'll get a mophie dock. Finally, there is a plastic panel that snaps onto the bottom to hide the cables and allow the dock to sit flat. This panel often snaps off.

Not a fan. Inhibits incoming calls

    • Written by from Leesburg

Of course I love the form factor on this product, but the number one reason I can't use it: its aluminum construction seems to block incoming calls. I will randomly get voicemail alerts within 30-60 seconds of pulling my iPhone off the stand.

iPhone on the stand: 1 reception bar and no incoming calls. iPhone off the stand (and just laying on my desk): 3-4 reception bars and incoming calls come through just fine.

Be careful -- doesn't work with 6' APPLE cable

    • Written by from Vancouver

I laid out $35 for Apple's own 6' foot cable because they said this works "exclusively with the Apple Lightning cable". What they don't tell you is that it only works with the 3' cable!! The 3' cable is a little skinnier and the tolerances on this stand are incredibly tight.

By using a bigger hammer I got it put together -- but assembly is not for the fainthearted.

And, like several of the other reviewers have noted, it really is a little tippy for my iPad Mini.

    Assmebly Required!

    • Written by from Eugene

This item was very disappointing. If you read the fine print and make certain assumptions from what is in the package you can divine that it needs assembly but frankly assembly would not be necessary except that they cheat you of a cord for charging. Seriously! Cables that come with Apple iphone are way to short for the advertised use. In addition, I would not have been capable of putting these small parts together because of a neurological disease. I had to take it to a friend to have it put together. Really for $35 this was seriously not worth the headache and it doesn't look THAT good and lacks flexibility because of the requirement to use short charging cords.

Most disappointing! - Do not buy!

    • Written by from Ely

The worst product I've ever bought at an Apple Store since 1999. The flimsy cheap plastic lid in the bottom needed to be taped shut by me in order to keep it in place. After three days using it on my desk at work the (not supplied) original Apple charging cable has been damaged by a sharp edge at the rear of the stand. What now?... Buy a new charing cable twice a month? This HiRise is a 'HiCost' stand with several flaws. Do not buy... Zero Stars...

YOU MUST USE THE STANDARD LENGTH LIGHTNING CABLE!

    • Written by from Vancouver

I purchased this as I keep my iPhone in a case and like to dock it. I installed it fine (although all of the parts a super tiny, which is very difficult to manage - and I even have small hands.

After putting it together, I realized I needed to use a longer cable with it. I had purchased the Apple 2m lightning cable so I took out the standard length cord with no difficulty. When I went to put the stand back together with the 2m cord, the plastic clip jammed in the dock. It wouldn't budge, and I had to use pliers to get the cord back out. Turns out, the 2m long cable is the tinniest bit thicker than the regular length cord. Twelve South should definitely put in a disclaimer that the stand must be used with the standard cable!

    Too bad

    • Written by from DIXON

It was a good try, but with a little more effort, it could have been a useful product. The "base cap" intended to be the cable cover on the bottom of the unit is made of a cheap flimsy plastic that is supposed to snap into place. It doesn't hold the cable in place and it falls off whenever you try to reposition the stand. If they had just made the cover out of the same aluminum that most of the rest of the unit is made from, then it may have worked better. Also, in their attempt to make it "air"-like, they made the base too thin. So, the cable has to take a very sharp 90+ degree turn, which puts pressure on the cheap plastic cover. And the groove for the cable is not quite wide enough to hold my standard Apple Lightning cable. If they had made the base a little bit thicker, they could have had a better path for the cable to stay in place and maybe even had room to include some sort of plastic clips to keep it there securely. There is a plastic cable clip that you are supposed to select from three different sizes, depending on your case thickness. Choose wisely - you will not be able to change it without destroying it. In an effort to make the cheap plastic cap look intentional, they also put one in just for show on the top of the rear support. Finally, the unit is not heavy enough to be stable. Even with just an iPhone, it wobbles around - partly because the cap on the base won't stay in place and partly because the front support is not wide enough. There is no easy way to adjust the back support, so using devices with different thicknesses is not an option either.

    Assembly required

    • Written by from Austin

Bought this for my office desk and was disappointed so I will return it. The first problem was finding 10 pieces that needed to be assembled. I spent 20 minutes trying to get the tiny screws into the base and they were so small that I dropped the parts several times. It felt as though the screws were being stripped so I had to stop. Finally, it doesn't come with a cable- you have to supply it otherwise it doesnt work. Since I just upgraded to the 5S phone I don't yet have spare cables.
