Compared to other options not bad...

    • Written by from San Carlos

But, the whole thing is a little iffy to put together, as you have to do a decent amount of fidgety adjustment to custom fit to your phone. Adjustment involving holding two metal pieces at an angle, at a distance, while screwing in hex bolts from the bottom.

It comes with 3 height options for: phone with no case, phone with medium case, phone with large case. Of course, all 3 cases I had on hand were solidly between the "no case" and medium case" option. So the phone works with the medium case option, but is a bit wobbly.

All in all, the stand is very light, so required 2 hands to remove the phone, and anytime you move the stand, or pick it up, it's likely the bottom plate will fall out.

For 35 dollars, best option out there. If you want to spend 95 there are superior heavy weight easily customizable options out there.

Good product but assembly is not for the faint of heart

I'm usually somewhat capable of assembling things, but had moderate difficulty installing 4 small screws with 10 fat fingers and then trying to embed the cable in the track on the bottom.

    Excellent Concept w/ Tight Specs

As other reviewers stated, it's an effectively minimalist design. However, like many minimalist designs, what looks and functions beautifully in ideal conditions usually means tightly restricted performance and maintenance. There is no room for error. So get this information right and you'll be happy with the Hi-Rise stand.

The packaging says "Works with Apple Lightning Cable," and I'd read here that cord thickness was an issue with this base. I was prepared, I thought.

The 1m length that came with my iPhone 5s is a little short, so I asked an Apple Store employee if there was a difference between the 1m and 2m lightning cable thickness. He said no. He was wrong. The only lightning cord that works with this is the 1 meter cord length from Apple. The 2m cable is thicker and will not bend tightly enough, or slip easily into the groove in the base.

So it's a great product if you only use the 1m cord. Twelve South needs to change their packaging to ** "Works only with 1m Apple Lightning Cable."** Twelve South should know that the longer length doesn't work, and note that on their box and online. I ruined a $30 cable, but it looks nice and works well with the 1m length.

    one flaw

love it. the best dock i have owned. only thing is since it uses your existing cable, the up and down function of taking my phone off of the base many times has broken the tip of my lightning cable. i now have to replace the cable.

Great stand but assembly wasn't easy and it is a bit pricey

    • Written by from Santee

I needed a charging stand to fit into a very specific space and this design was perfect - it fits in a small space and charges my iPhone5 great. And it can be adjusted for several cases - big +. In reading the negative reviews, I expected a flimsy plastic base but was pleasantly surprised; the base is much stronger than reported. What was accurate was the difficulty in putting it together. I am very good with tools - can usually put anything together without too much trouble. But I struggled with these little screws (therefore the 3 out of 5 stars). And the fact I thought it was too pricey. I had an Apple gift card and would not have paid this much otherwise.
So, if you have trouble putting little screws in difficult-to-center little holes, make sure you have someone who can help you. And rest assured, you will drop one of the little screws on the door at least once while putting together. Bring your patience to this project.

    So close...

So overall I like this stand. It looks nice and is minimalist. What I've noticed is that it's not a stand you can still really use the phone while its on. I know it wanst sold as anything but a good looking stand but I'd like to see it with a wider base and back, right now the phone is very wobbly if you like to put your hand around it to respond to a test while it stays not he stand. I don't mean thicker post, they're fine (well maybe it should be wider to support the back more).

Again, not a deal breaker, I'll keep this one but I wouldn't buy one for my iPad based on how off balanced everything feels. Something to support the far edges would feel great if it could be worked into the design.

Looks good, solid but bottom plate is cheap. The entire thing is aluminum except the plate that hides the wire. It's cheap and weak, it actually does not even stay on. Plastic insert for phone and wire is extremely hard to push down. You must rock it side to side to get it in completely
