    How magical is it really?

    • Written by from Monroe

Yes this is a beautiful mouse that goes above and beyond the usual mouse that one can buy, but what I would like to see is have a Touch ID sensor on each side of the mouse for use with left and right handed people. Than it would own up to its name of being magical and worth 70$. I have a MacBook Pro and as much as I love it, I hate the fact that I need to type in my password every time I use it. Obviously a Touch ID sensor installed into the MacBook itself would make the most sense but having a Magic Mouse with Touch ID that customers can buy for their older gen MacBooks would make sense for a large customer base of people who haven't upgraded to a new MacBook with Touch ID built in already.

Good for everyday use, may not a good choice for professional purpose.

Good for everyday use, may not a good choice for professional purpose. BTW, terrible experience under Win system.
Other than these, MM is really a decent product with beautiful looking. If you get used to it, it's extremely handy to use.

    Nice piece of tech

    • Written by from Austin

I see a lot of crabby reviews here and, while I understand them, I absolutely don't agree.

I've used a ridiculous number of mice in my career--three button, two button w/ and w/out scroll wheels, two button with side buttons, wired, wireless, laser, mechanical, you name it--and this is the only one that I've sought out to purchase again. All the rest, it's mostly six of one, half-dozen of the other, but this one has functionality that keeps me coming back and style that makes it a pleasure to see on my desktop.

Some folks complain about the size--yes, it's flat. You know what? That makes it so much easier to bring with you; you can tuck it into a pocket, or slip it into a slot in your laptop bag. I have never had repetitive stress issues while using my Magic Mouse, which I certainly can't say for many of the other mice I've used. I find the weight wonderful; it gives it a heft and sense of solidity that most mice simply don't.

Some folks complain about the functionality. Personally, once you're able to slide sideways and go back and forth between web pages with a simple swipe, it's very hard to go back. It sounds like such a little thing, but the amount of mousing it saves you, having to move the cursor to the "Back" and "Forward" buttons, or having to take your hands off the mouse to hit Alt-right arrow on the keyboard, is really significant.

The only reason I don't give it a higher score is that because it uses Bluetooth, if you have a lot of Bluetooth devices, they can interfere with the Magic Mouse. Not other Apple devices natch, but for example I have a Motorola BT headset; this can interfere with my mouse.

But otherwise? A very nice piece of tech.

    Awesome Mouse

    • Written by from Mahwah

I love the Magic Mouse. I have had mine for close to 5 years now. It is the most versatile mouse in the industry. I would not give it up for anything.

My mouse initially disconnected a few times a day till I found an article via a Google search. I put paper inside the battery cover and the problem went away. For the past 3 years, I have been using it without the paper with no battery disconnects.

My only complaint and the reason I gave it four stars, is that I have to replace the batteries at least once a month. I wish the batteries on the Magic Mouse lasted as long as the batteries on bluetooth keyboard.

I would definitely recommend this to everyone.

    Magical, yet expensive

    • Written by from Singapore

This mouse is another excellent product released by Apple, and characteristically it is expensive. It's a great product, all the features work very fluently. Scrolling is very intuitive and responsive, and while it's not a gaming mouse it does't perform too bad while playing games. It's also compact, and it just looks great in general, but it does't live up to the 70 dollar price tag...

    Great mouse with one exception

    • Written by from Texarkana

I read most of the reviews before I purchased the mouse, and was somewhat leery about buying one. I decided to take a chance, and I'm mostly glad I did. I'm not having any of the problems the other reviewers have had, so I'm happy about that. The problem I have with mine is that it looses connection with the laptop, and it does it fairly often which drives me crazy. Other than that, it's a nice little mouse.

    Almost perfect...

    • Written by from Barnsley

I love the Apple Magic Mouse, but I that love has it's limits ... just like the batteries. If there'd been a USB cable version, I'd have not had to buy a mouse from someone else.

Awesome yet Awful at the Same Time

    • Written by from Bristow

Absolutely love the mouse... almost all of the time. The multitouch is amazing, the feel is perfect. The accuracy is superb. Love the scrolling up and down by simple and smooth finger strokes. It is exactly the right height, weight and made of very durable materials (read last sentence of review). The mouse fits into a bag without causing a bulge or being obnoxiously in the way of other bag gear. The battery lasts forever and in a pinch, you can actually use just one battery to power the rodent! (nice job Apple power engineers!).

What drives me absolutely bat-ship are two features and they really not the mouse but the operating system:
    1 - Smart Zoom
    2 - Swipe Between Pages

Both of these are like mouse-crack. Once you use it, you have to have to have it. But BUT they typically don't work right when you try to use them and then surprise you by working when you don't intend to use them.

1 - a slight gitter in your finger as you put your finger down on the mouse activates this feature. Drink two cups of coffee and you will be activating this feature randomly all day. It is disastrous for presentations and completely distracting (like dripping and landing on your face distracting) while working.

2 - OMG, it never works right. I can try to use this feature 10 times and can't get the browser to go back or forward a page. It threatens by going half way and snapping back. But as soon as I reach from the keyboard and brush the mouse with my pinky finger, BAM, I just go back a page and lose all the information (like this review) that I have been typing.

The side effect of both of these issues is a periodic onset of Turrets Syndrome and the random activation of the aviation feature of the mouse (Fly Be Free! - Mork).

Except for these two little mouse droppings, best dang mouse ever produced by anybody.

It took a while to get used to it after decades of 3 buttons – but it was definitely worth it. Quality design as it's best. Thanks Apple!

Moves easily with a few household supplies. Two finger swipes not good.

    • Written by from Jakarta

Put clear packing tape, cut to fit, on the rails.

Take a smooth mousepad and tape a notepad (8" x 6") of about 30 sheets
    thickness to the mousepad.

Put the Magic Mouse on it and it moves around effortlessly like a mouse should!

I know you shouldn't have to do this for the mouse to work so I deduct one star from five.

In addition, the two finger swipe isn't easy if your fingers and the mouse aren't completely clean and dry.

One finger swipes are fine though and I find myself using those a lot more often.

On a more positive note, battery life is good but then again I am using the more expensive Energizer Advanced
AA alkaline batteries. In 5 days the battery has gone from 100% to 88% which isn't bad at all. If it declines
by 12% every 5 days that means it should last at least a month. The employee at the Apple Store
said alkaline batteries last about a month. There are always rechargeables or Lithium batteries too.

It looks nice and matches well with my computer. Aesthetically pleasing.. elegant. Matches very
well with my Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad and Mac mini.

Scrolling is a wonder and effortless. I like tapping it with two fingers to bring up Mission Control.
Flipping through photos by moving one finger from left to right is easy.

Using a two finger swipe is an annoyance though (to bring up Dashboard). I suppose that is
what the friction-filled rails are for...to keep the mouse steady as you swipe with two fingers
but that sacrifices movement and most of the time we don't need to bring up Dashboard.

Perhaps my next purchase will be the Magic Trackpad as I believe that is the future for non-gamers
like me who only check email, lightly browse and view the occasional YouTube video.

It's a great mouse for a laptop but for a desktop it just feels like it is lacking. Sure, I have it working
effortlessly right now but I shouldn't have had to rig it to make it work like it should have done
    straight out of the box.

Apple products are wonderful and I am a big fan but their mice leave something to be desired.
There is some room for improvement.

Everything else Apple makes is top notch.. no doubts about that. :-)

My advice: go for the Trackpad or do like I did and use clear tape and the notepad trick
to make it glide along with ease.

Brilliant mouse with so-so battery life and Bluetooth connection

    • Written by from Cape Town

This is the best mouse I've ever used. I spend about 10 hours a day in front of the screen, most of which includes design work of some sort, so you could say I'm a heavy mouse user. Of all the mice I've owned and used, this is the best one by a long stretch. It sits comfortably in my hand, it has a clean, clutter free design, and it operates very precisely. The single shell design with multi buttons are perfectly balanced, and scrolling always impresses - it really is a magical experience, compared to other mice.

I don't like using a mouse pad, which results in the ski-strips on the underside getting a little mucky over time, but it's easy enough to clean to not influence my overall very positive experience with the mouse.

As mentioned, I am a heavy user, but having to replace the batteries every 2 to 3 weeks does leave a somewhat not-so-green feeling. I would say if it wasn't for the battery life, I would give this product a 5 star rating.

I'm not sure if it's my MacBook or my mouse, but about once a week I lose my Bluetooth connection, with the mouse within 5 inches from my MacBook. This does seem a bit odd, but luckily getting it re-connected is only a swipe-tap-select away on my trackpad.

    Lots of room for improvement

    • Written by from North Las Vegas

Been using my magic mouse for a while now. I love the gestures, they really take the mouse to the next level. However as others have stated the ergonomics are not the best. This mouse is heavy and has large contact pads on the bottom that seem to grip more than slide on your desk. Feels very much like sliding around a brick. My biggest complaint is the sides, I grip the mouse from the sides with my thumb and ring finger, and they are very sharp to the point that they irritate my skin after a few hours.

Overall a great product, I am keeping my fingers crossed for some ergonomic improvements from future generations!

Probably the coolest mouse I've ever had, but not good for gaming.

    • Written by from Clarence Center

I bought one with my first Mac last year, a 13" retina pro, and I have to say it's amazing. It's got a sleek, yet basic design and it doesn't drain batteries like most computer mice I've used. I also love how it's all one button and a touch pad. The only complaint I have is it's not the best for gaming. Sometimes it thinks I scrolled or I right-clicked and it detected it as a left-click. I also love how it has gestures almost like the Mac trackpad.

This is a review after having the product for about 2 years:
Battery: I think it lasts pretty long. No problems with it
Shape: I find it fine. Ppl complain that it is not made for big hands, but im 6'2'' and it fits fine
Connection: very few times have I lost connection when I was using it. Sometimes when I first turn on my computer (Macbook Pro) it takes a minute or two to recognize the mouse, but usually this is not a problem.
Price: It's a little pricy, but you get what you pay for. I haven't had any problems with it

Conclusion: If you do not like using the trackpad or have to move your curser a lot, I would definitely recommend this product.

    Pricey but good product

    • Written by from cold lake

I reluctantly bought the magic mouse for 2 reason. First all the bad reviews and second the price. I've been using the mouse for the last two weeks and so far I'm well pleased with it. I use it on my macbook air and it works great. The only down fall is the price.
I had to try a couple times for my mac to connect to it properly but once it recognized the mouse I haven't had a problem since.

In short if you're an Apple junky such as myself and don't mind shelling out the $$$ for a mouse do it!!!

    Experiencing the Magic Mouse

    • Written by from Aurora

I enjoy this mouse for it's ease of operation. It is a programable device for sensitive to not so sensitive touch. You have choices when programing this device.Perhaps it not the best tool for drafting, especially if you have very large fingers that are attached to a huge hand.Balancing your fingers all day on this unquietly designed tool may prove a bit challenging for some. There are other mice available to help correct your situation.Gamers really can't substantiate its use ,hardly any body complains about that. They get a proper gaming tool for their needs. This little tool is an all around device to help work your top of the line computer to its fullest.I use the Magic charging device as well, great little invention and yes it really saves from those ,weekly battery changes!.The unit assembled easily and works ever so great.I have many friends who use both of these devices and never experienced the problems and all the drama that has been associated with these functioning tools. These devices were not meant to last a life time.I purchased a second for back up.Please rethink the use before you make that purchase then do what you feel one must do in that circumstance.Good luck

I just got my first MacBook Pro and as much as I love the track pad on my laptop, I'm lost without a mouse. So I purchased a Magic Mouse. This thing is great, all the different gestures you can do, it works 10 ft away if I want it to, I really enjoy this product. The only issue I have with it is the battery cover on the bottom seems cheap. It's loose all the time, and I can tell it might need replacing fairly soon just because it doesn't seem to fit tight enough. But that's the only issue I have. Another great product from Apple. But it's time to give us a price break on your products though, you've made enough, we will always buy your products, just hook us up with some private discount codes or something. I think it's the least you can do.
