    Very sad day...

I'm very disappointed. My MagSafe is dead. I have no other choice but to shell out $80 for a new one. I'm so disgusted that you guys charge so much for your failures. Thanks.

    Damages quickly

Well, I have had my cord for less than a year and it hasn't really been working properly for 6 months. I am disappointed by the design, it seems that the wires are not properly connecting because I have to twist the magnetic adaptor to MAYBE get my computer to charge. Also, Apple is disheartening because they have no information on the bad charge cord. "links have been removed" I was trying to see if it was under warranty, but no prevail.

They always fail after one year of ownership.

I've owned Apple portables since the PowerBook 100; I have had nothing but problems with the latest models, with the failure of the MagSafe power adapters being the biggest problem to date.

I don't know what it is with the MagSafe power adapters, but they always fail catastrophically. My first one, the original design, frayed like all of them, and the replacement did the same. When the redesigned aluminum MagSafe power adapters came out, I thought the design had finally been perfected. Wrong. My current MagSafe power adapter charges only when it wants to and quickly gets very hot to the touch, to the point where touching it with my fingers is uncomfortable.

I have seen this problem once before, on a unibody white MacBook that I used at work. We had to replace that adapter after less than six months of service.

The MagSafe connector is remarkable in theory, but in practice, these power adapters bring me nothing but headache. I wish there would be some sort of update or better quality control measures because having to buy a new one every 13-15 months is a bit absurd. I'm really gentle with my equipment, my laptop hardly ever leaves the house and is used mainly on a desk or table. I have no idea why these continuously fail on me.

    Poor Quality Power Adapter

I got my new MacBook Pro, three months back. My Apple 60W MagSafe Power charger stopped working. Its disappointing, when a premium priced product from Apple has such poor quality product. I wish my other apple products don't act the same way.....

    Apple should be ashamed

With all the great service provided at the Apple Store, it is hard to believe that Apple would not only sell such a shoddy product, but more important, not admit their poor design and offer all of us customers a break in price to replace the adapter. An $80 adapter---being replaced MORE than once in the computer's lifetime????
---THAT is disgraceful!!! Shame on you Apple.....

Broke after 11 months, 10 days

I've loved my late 2010 13 inch Mac Book pro ever since I bought it, but this past week my charger stopped charging. I figured it had a short or loose wire somewhere in the connector since it would start charging again by gently moving the cable around. Obviously the more you play with the cable, the more damage is done to it, and sure enough the magnetic connector detached from the cord. Now I'm not blaming Apple for the connector falling off since I had to move it around (But as others have stated, it seems the connector gets really hot and weakens the glue). I am, however, disappointed that the charger stopped charging in the first place in less than a year. My other laptops (Lenovo, Sony, Acer) have all had chargers that lasted years!!! My Sony Vaio charger is still going strong after 3 years, I just replaced my Lenovo one after 4 years (Ordered directly from Lenovo's site for $35), the Acer one still works after 6 years (The laptop doesn't though).

I love my Mac and the build quality of the MBP overall, but Apple seems to make the cheapest, flimsiest cables out of any company, hobbyist, or 5 year old kid with Elmer's glue. I have 5 'Dead' Apple iPhone sync cables (Oddly enough, a sync cable I purchased from Radioshack still works after 2 years). Normally I'd just shut-up and give Apple my money, but I have a TON of work I need to finish by morning and since the Apple Store is closed all I can do is rant until my battery dies.

    Design flaws

I have the white 13.3 inch macbook( late 2009) for about two years now. At first I thought, that this charger was the best charger I had ever seen for a laptop. But recently. It's being a real pain to me, when I plug it in while i'm using my macbook, the temperature of the connector reaches 50 degrees celsius which is pretty nasty if you happen to touch it. And the connector has also become loose which makes my mac constantly alternate between battery and ac mode which is pretty irritating, there was also another incident where I had received a major shock whilst going to rest the laptop on my knees. Is really what a MagSafe power adaptor is? Well so much for safety then, hope I don't have to have my mac catch on fire.

    rubbish

The same as everyone else! Bought computer 8months ago...charger broken already. I am travelling in Asia at the moment, and not having a computer is really annoying, and $79 for a new charger is more than I spend on rent and food for a whole week! Shape up apple!

    This is horrible quality

The cord's connection to the magnetic piece is very cheaply made and this is my 7th adapter in 2 years. I am going to outsource and search for something made of heavy stuff. I mostly use my computer at the desk and rarely take the cord with me when I go out and yet they don't last and always break at the magnetic piece or the fuse in the power block goes out.

I am disappointed in Apple. They should have fixed this by now. I just get a "that's the way it is" answer from Apple whenever I brooch the subject of workmanship!

    Horrible Product

The only people rating this product above a one star must be Apple employees or share holders. This product is horrible. I'm on third one in 8 months! On the first one the magsafe end fell off, the second just stopped working. Now on the third one and the end is coming lose after only 3 weeks! I only use it in my house!

How can Apple charge $80 for this product when you can by Apple TV for $99?

    Replaceable You

Ever since my beloved aluminum Powerbook, I've been fighting with the Incredible Breaking Cord on these things. The wire gets broken right below where it inserts into the computer. THERE IS A FIX. I wrap red electrical tape several times around the vulnerable part. The tape cushions and protects the wire. I've never had one of them break since.

Now there is a new design--and it looks as though Apple have actually been trying to fix the problem. But I think the new design is as vulnerable to breakage as the old one--and harder to protect with tape. But what I don't get is why they don't just accept the inevitable and design the adapter in such a way that the cord from the adapter can be unplugged and replaced--at a fraction of the cost of replacing the whole darn assembly. Could it be that Apple makes more money out of these accessories than out of the computer itself. . . .?

    I expected better.

I had to order a new one after a year of use. The charger started not working correctly after about 9 months. Depending on the orientation of the cable, it would charge for a while but eventually got to the point where no matter what I did, I couldn't get it to work. I expected better of you Apple.

    Broke after 6 months

Mine broke after only 6 months. First it stopped charging. I had to move the cable around to get it to work. Then it just broke. I am stuck out of the country with no working adapter, no way to take it in for warranty and probably a couple weeks to get another. I wish they had the old power supply so I could use my iphone/ipod adapter.

    Broken Again

I've had to buy 3 of these now. The thin end of the cord that attaches to the magnet part keeps breaking apart. I take very good care of my computer and it's accessories, and I feel if someone as cautious as me has to buy a new one of these every year, then the part is too easily broken. =(

    Need i say more?

Everything that has been said is true, I just bought a new charger b/c my puppy chewed through my last chord and the first day it worked fine and second day came it wouldn't charge. I thought my animals might have gotten to this cord as well, until i read these reviews and took out my battery before charging it. After taking out the battery the cord works fine, however, i am highly disappointed in this product. Especially when i pay eighty dollars for a charger that malfunctions. Every time i need to charge my laptop i have to take the battery out in order for it to work not only does the battery life not last long, it is a hassle to take out your battery every time.

Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)

I have had to replace the power cable for my MacBook Pro a few times. It frays easily despite my efforts to protect and care for it - each cable replacement costs anywhere between $40 - 80 adding to the overall cost of the computer. I have used electrical tape to reinforce the cable entering the housing of the adaptor but over time it still frays. Unfortunately this occurs even if you use the two "L" brackets that swing open to wrap the cable. My husband and other family members LOVE mac, but everyone of us have had to replace this part. I hope that Apple will improve the design of their power cables to prevent fraying.

    Recall and redesign these things

Other than the clunky size I have had no complaint about this power adapter for the last two years. I use mine with the longer power cord attached. I have always been particular about wrapping it loosely in a way that does not damage electrical cables and store it in my bag in a place where it won't get abused. This weekend, the smaller wire separated from where it inserts into the rubber piece that passes through the center of one side of the square transformer body. I noticed it, but didn't think much of it beyond it being pretty poor that it was falling apart until my wife said, "It smells like something's burning." Sure enough, she sniffed out my electrical cable burning the insulating rubber wrapped around it. I touched it and it was very hot. I also noticed that it wasn't charging (unless I crammed the wire back together). In class today I asked the person next to me if she had the same type of charger (since my computer was dead from not being able to charge it). She took one look at my charger and said, "Oh yeah... that happened to mine this weekend. I had to borrow my boyfriend's. You can use it." So, apparently these things are so bad that the odds are high enough that you can go up to a random Apple user and find one who had the same thing happen to them in the same time period yours went bad!

Apple, recall and redesign these things! They are fire hazards.

    Very low quality

My Macbook Pro is barely 4 years old, and my second charger just died. I love my Mac, but I'm extremely frustrated that I am having to buy a 3rd charger is less than 4 years.

    Poor Design

I'm about to purchase my 4th one due to it fraying and falling apart, yet again. I've had my MacBook Pro for 5 years and this charger is the bane of my existence when it comes to my MacBook Pro. The first charger that came with the MacBook Pro was the one that lasted the longest, at about 2 years. Since then I've had to purchase a new one yearly due to the same issue of it fraying and falling apart.
