Better than the old one, still awful

I've had to buy 4 of these in as many years, and probably just as many of the old "t-style" adapters for my previous laptop. I'm constantly fretting over the amount of strain imposed on them in the course of typical daily use and they STILL break. Easily a worst-in-class product. Magnetic attachment is a fine idea but the minimal benefit brought by this innovation is utterly overshadowed by the wretchedly abysmal engineering. It's just too flimsy to be usable, and as expensive as these are they certainly aren't trivial to replace. you'd think apple would perhaps let you detach and replace just the magnetic cord part that seems to be constantly breaking, but no - after over 10 years of essentially the same design there's still the same issued.

These chargers are trash. $80 worth of trash

Today I will be going to buy my 3rd one. I barely made a year. Your chargers are expensive and trash! I feel like a scam is being ran on me and I shouldnt feel that way as a loyal customer. Do you guys wrap the wires with sticky tack?! This isnt a "handle your product better, people" issue. This is a make a better charger for Current and new macbooks(because I know how yall are) or im going to switch back to PC. This is such an inconvenience on productivity.

If there was an option for 0 stars, I'd pick that.

This is my second charger and it took only a year for the wire to fray. I think it's the actual design of the charger that causes it to break like this. Really disappointed.

These cables are a disaster and absolute rip off

Apple's chargers used to last years, equivalent to the quality of any other PC brand. Over the last few years they have changed the design of the plastic insulation, which literally disintegrates. Given the outrageous cost of these cables in comparison to other brands, and the fact that you are forced to use them, I'd advise against anyone who hasn't yet converted to using their computers not to do so, as the cost in charges alone vastly inflates the cost of owning a mac.

Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter is Subpar

Why use my own words when the person below summed my sentiments up so nicely. —

Grace B from Glendale Heights said, "If I could give zero stars on this product I would. I've had my MacBook Pro for 5 years and I'm already on my 4th charger. I NEVER travel with my power adapter but somehow it always frays. It's literally garbage and so expensive. This is so badly flawed that it should have a lifetime warranty. Hate, hate, hate this power cord." I couldn't agree more. Going on my third charger in 4 yrs and this latest one lasted all of 8 months before it started to fray.

I have to buy an adapter for my MacBook every 6 months.

    Bad design

Major problem with this charger. It is way too heavy to be plugged in a wall outlet. The 2 prongs should not be used to hold on to the weight of the charger. This is a very bad design. Other computer companies have an extension cord on the power box. Makes more sense. My daughter had this computer for 2 years and we have to spen $100.00 to buy a charger. It's not right.

    Too Flimsy

Basically this is a very disappointing chord and the worst part about the mac book. These things last less than a year with gentle use, the cord just isn't strong enough, which is strange because the part that plugs into the wall is very heavy duty and lasts longer than the computer, considering the price of replacing this and how often you need to (after 4 months my new cord is already showing troubles, my last one lasted a year). Mag-safe 2 isn't worth it if you need to spend a hundred dollars a year just to be able to charge.
This seriously is making a strong case for making the switch back to windows computers or at least to linux.

In comparison my magsafe 1 lasted 3 years before needing replacing and the chargers for non-mac computers, that I've encountered, last a similar or better length of time

    You need one every year

Very bad quality. I love my MacBook but I really need a cord almost every year. That's 60$-80$ at least every year.

    Flawed design

I have a mid-2009 MacBook Pro and have gone through seven of these chargers over the years. Every single cord has kinked, frayed or torn where the cable meets the MagSafe head.

    Rip off

I've had 3 power brick that have failed."out of warranty"
This is the cheapest produced I've even see- from any computer company.
I'll buy a 3rd party supply because even at $80 these are cheap trash

The Reason I will avoid Apple products in the future.

Having to buy a replacement for this charger for the second time in two months. It is ridiculous how much it costs, and how easily it breaks.

    Very bad quality...!!!

i am replacing my ac adaptor for my 4 yo macbook air for the 4th or 5th time ! The first time it was covered by Applecare. This unacceptable except i have no choice. You are forced to replace this at least annually at a cost of $80 ! My experience is making me think long and hard about upcoming hardware purchases. I am wishing there was some sort of class-action relief.

AWFUL! Needs to be redesigned ASAP

An expensive POS that needs to be replaced annually. It's useless when the exterior breaks and the wires fray. Also, the power adaptor is big and bulky. When I use the extension cord, which is frequently because the actual cord doesn't reach anything, it's obnoxious to have a large square in the middle of the cord. It weighs it down & it's not functional. How many reviews will it take till you make a half way decent product?

    Back to the PC

After over a decade of exclusively purchasing Apple products for their quality and ease of use I am heading back to the PC.

Poor quality in a component as critical as power is inexcusable and the design flaw is obviously intentional.

My wife and I have three children and all have a MacBook, we are now down to own power cord and have already replaced two other cords. Six out of seven cords have gone bad and I will not purchase another. I was reading these reviews to see if Apple ever responded. The only thing to salvage my view of what Apple is becoming is doing the right thing and providing a solution for its customers.

I will have fond memories of the joy I had when I switched from PC to Mac; I could not believe how easy it was. Preloaded software, no boot disks, never had to defragment the hard drive, etc. it just worked. That was a long time ago and their are a lot more competitors out there now, so goodbye Mac it was fun while it lasted.

Too bad we can't give a rating of 0 stars

This is second charger of this type I have had to be for my kid's PowerBook, the original and its first replacement failing within 10 months of purchase, amounting to a charger cost of £5 per month so far. The cable strain relief at the base of the outgoing DC cable is poorly designed and not fit for purpose. Put simply, it is not long enough and therefore the cable insulation breaks down where the cable attaches to the power supply. At £65 this design fiasco is overpriced compared to its price in the US, even accounting for the exchange rate and taxes. Moreover, it is unreliable to say the least [note my first way of wording it was rejected by Apple due to expletives]. All Apple have to do is to redesign the plastic cable strain, extending it a few more millimetres, and the cable would be much more robust. More than 200 people have rated this charger as 1 star in the UK, and more than 1000 in the US ('1k+'). Yet Apple seems blissfully unconcerned.

I wonder how long it will be before the poorly designed cable strain relief fails - creating a short circuit - and causes serious injury or property damage through fire. Moreover, there are irresponsible YouTube videos showing how to 'repair' the cable that are outright dangerous.

Apple: are you going to listen to your customers and redesign this thing [again, my first use of language was not accepted by Apple due to expletives] or are you content to make your customers furious?

The worse quality compared to any other computers!!

The overall quality of this "power adapter" is the worse from any laptop that I have owned or had to work with before. I tried to protect the cable all the time, especially the part near by the body of this adapter and broke exactly there. First, the protection white cover broke and then it burn all of a sudden, while plugged. It was incredible!
I used to have a very cheap laptop before (worth of 250 euros) and treated the cable with less attention and care than I did for this MacBook Pro and the charger is still working after 7 years of use.
Bad and poor quality. Worse than any Chinese cheap product. Shame on Apple!
It's not worth not even 1 star as it shows, but this system obliged me to "rate" at least one star in order to publish my text.

I Am Buying My Third Charger.....

Yes the new design is better than the old one but I still have problems with the cord. The extender works just fine but I am now buying my third charger because the power adaptor keeps going out. I love my Mac and Apple prodicts but thereis defiantly room for improvement for the chargers (Macs and iPhones).
